This little war of cornering ability and car quality, while OT is funny as hell. I'll leave work today, jump on my GSX-R that was under 10k and whip any car anyone here mentions. That's 0-60 and cornering. Of course, in the world of motorcycles, Japanese are still King. Would be nice to be a Buell or Ducati though....
Holy shit, I wish I had mod points. I just had to spit a mouthfull of water into my plastic trash can after reading that. First thing I've laughed at in a long time here. Thanks.
I love car analogies with regards to software. I buy a car, I open the hood take a look at what I want to change, machine a new whatever, or go down to the parts store and buy a better part, take it apart and put it back together. I own that car, I can do what I want with it.
Why don't I have that right with software. How do people argue against this. Maybe not total GPL, but give me the source when I buy it. Maybe I'll be able to make it do what I want. Probably not, but at least I'd own the software. Make a clause that I can't resell it in any form. Some people will. Can't be worse than things are now for them.
It is only by giving away our rights to companies such as these that we can reasonably expect freedom. I, for one, trust all companies and don't understand why anyone would support OGG, Gnu/Linux or any GPL software when anyone can change it.
The don't just call themselves US citizens, they are US citizens. See, what you fail to understand is that part of why the US is a great country is just what you are railing against. The American dream of owning a house and also being able to spend time with their family. If foreign workers come in and work more hours for less pay, it begins to impact the quality of life for all workers. The middle class shrinks and we find ourselves in a wealth imbalance like that of a third world country where a smaller and smaller percentage of people control a greater and greater percentage of wealth. Americans are not against foreigners, we realize that we all travelled here some time in the past.
I suppose that I can only blame your lack of education for not understanding these very basic principles of American motivation.
Am I the only one sitting here chuckling about the repeated comparison to doctors and lawyers? Please. Would be a lot better to compare programmers to auto workers or steel workers.

Thanks for the pointers. I searched through the mailing list archives and had seen my question asked many times with many different answers. It seemed like the naming convention had changed. I tried a bunch of different ways.
Hope I didn't come across like an ass, I just got very frustrated with the several times I tried to get it working.
I haven't completely given up, just close. I'll give this a try before hanging it up for awhile.

Seriously. I installed it. Set up everything I want and use from my linux drive. I love how clean the directory structure is compared to linux. I really want to use it exlusively for a couple months and see how I like it. I've written and compiled programs on it. But I can't for the life of me get it to mount a ext2 partition. Yes, I recompiled the kernel with ext2fs support. I ended up just burning everything that I wanted from linux on a cdrw, mounting it under FreeBSD and thought that I would be able to work it out. But all my ogg files are in three different ext2fs partitions. I need to have access to those. Until I can get FreeBSD to do this, I can't use it. And that's a shame to me. One of my partitions is/dev/hdb3 under linux. I tried every combination I could find under mailing lists and web pages./dev/wda2s3 or whatever (this was a couple weeks ago and I can't remember now). Nothing worked. And I got very frustrated with the whole thing. Maybe I'll check back in a year or so and see how it's progressed.
It protects your children by only logging onto disneynet. It has no CD-ROM drives, and no floppies and no way to add them, as these could be used for non-approved activities. It also has a tiny non-intrusive cam that sends pictures of what is going on in your home back to Disney. Just to make sure you're not watching a non-Disney movie on the TV on the other side of the room. This is getting sooo lame.
I want to see genetic engineering just take off crazy and unregulated. Seriously, there are enough of us here, that the only way we'll REALLY fuck up is if we keep going the way we are.
I want to see athletes engineered to run 25 miles an hour for hours on end.
I want to see people with IQ's off any scale.
Hell, I want to see decathalons with supped up athletes where half the contestants explode before the end.
Bring it on, I like it and we need it. Fuck all you Naysayers in your nice comfortable existence.
If you make your living selling water in the desert and it starts to rain, you can bitch and moan about how unfair it is, or you can take a look around a sell umbrellas.
Code monkey's always act like they deserve the world. Sorry. It's something that I do for fun and I like to do when I have the time. I received a degree in something totally unrelated. This has allowed me to keep my kid warm and dry.
Take a look around (no not just around your neighborhood or state, but the world), see the growing number of quality Free Software apps coming out of every corner of the world. You can bitch and moan about it, or jump on board. Either way you're not going to stop the righteous momentum.
Who cares? I don't use Windows. I don't care. I used to have a partition so my kid could play games, but I figured fuck it, he can play outside.
Windows blows. Anyone who has done a couple complete installs of Windows can install Linux. Anyone who can read a book can get around Linux. I don't care about people who think Linux is hard. Fuck 'em.
I don't want to destroy Windows or anything, just who the fuck cares? Windows is an evil corporation, Windows has fundamental problems with their security. Windows doesn't play fair. I don't give a flip about any of these topics. I'm interested in News that Matters. None of these topics are going to change the minds of people who like Windows or Linux. Windows users get what they deserve. Fuck 'em.
Goddamit I'm going to another site. No, screw that, I'm going to bed. And all you dickheads who feel the need to reply to this or mod it can fuck yourselves as well. Fuck 'em all.
China's a pretty special place. I remember seeing some story about the way the government works and they (their gov't) were saying,"Hey, we have a billion plus people here. We have to do it our way or things would go to hell quickly." Not those same words, but you get the idea. And I agree with that on a certain level.
And, while I believe in freedom whole-heartedly, I have serious doubts about basic altruism in the human heart, at least in the US. In the US, we have basic freedom (for now, we'll see how much damage that fascist Aschcroft will do), but It's hard to get real excited when 1 out of 5 kids goes hungry, and various other statistics.
Where am I going with this? Ummm... I think the point I was going to get at was, China is special, and the Chinese have a different sense of country than the US does. I think that the gov't there doesn't put too much trust in their people, as what I've seen, I'd be surprised if the majority of the people, with full access to information, would change much about the way their country is run.
I think China could clear up their censorship, human rights issues and selling nuclear weapons to terrorist countries and it would only help them.
Anyway, sorry if I misread you. It was late and I tend to ramble.
Hmmmm... So nobody has the right to critisize anything until they have reached perfection?
And there is something wrong with wanting people to have free access to information so that they can make informed decisions about their lives and government?
I almost understand the gut level reaction that you were kind of echoing, but then I don't.
We need him to play the super smart college student who cracks the computer system, aims it at the crooked prof's house and fills the house with popcorn. 'Come on, am I the only one who thought of this?
You are right to a point. Get rid of junk mail, or opt-in junk mail and cut down the amount of money. Then just deliver mail 2 or 3 times a week. Then you have 1/2 the carriers and related infrastructure costs. That would work for me. Save a couple forests while we're at it.
I would drop the reference to MCSE. All that means is that you are comfortable with some computer terms, but probably in the bastardized M$ way.
Pick up any book such as Linux Administration: A Beginers Guide or A Practical Guide to Linux , my favorite, to get over the hump. After you have the basic knowledge, you'll find that the community is pretty helpfull. If they see that you have made an honest attempt (book, newsgroups, web sites, etc) at finding a solution, they're usually very happy to help.
Read the article before you comment. The drives are mounted so that they are VERY clearly visible through the window mod. Not something I'd do, but pretty cool looking.
And the fellow that did the mod knows that. Yeah, it's not the smartest thing to do, but you guys are idiots if you think you are the only ones who don't know the dangers. Please don't post any more comments about dust and RF.
It's not real smart, IMHO, to lower a pickup and mod it to hell, but the guys that do that like the way it looks. They aren't doing it so their vehicle will be faster. Just so it will look better.
That is what these guys are doing. Let them have their fun. I wouldn't do it, but I like the way it looks.
Yeah, good point. Living in Southern California, I don't really think about those conditions.....

Where do I download the linux binary?
Oh...uh huh...Have to install Windows to read your email...OK, I'll get right back to you one that.
