Why not use dedicated free (nag/spy/crapware free) console conversion tools like GOTSent or XenonMKV ? They are tuned for console use. (Xbox360 and PS3).
If you can get people to pay as much for console games as for tablet/mobile games, maybe, otherwise you're just not getting the return to make 'blockbuster' titles like GTA/GoW/Uncharted etc. (or is that already considered 'hardcore gaming'?)
Technology is not the issue here, it's just cash. If a game costs millions to produce, you're not gambling on a market where you need sell 100M but on a market where 1M units will make you break even. Consoles are not technological wonders, they are content platforms.
Or do as they did now, release the dev kit for an affordable price. (1900 Euro seems very affordable for a full dev kit). It's still quite some money, but if you're serious about development, then such an amount should be easy to recoup. For that price, I'm even willing to pitch in with some friends to get a kit, without the risk of having your work become useless due to a firmware update.
Sound recording quality has only decreased in general. Most audio comes at the same sample rate and bit-depth as CD or DAT, while there is no excuse whatsoever why this should not be increased to 192kHz/24bit or higher, and is stored with lossy compression. What is generally available now in lossless high quality is movies (DTS-MA, and Dolby HD) but hardly any music.
On the other side, the loudness war has further taken quite a few bits out of the available dynamic range of 96 dB (CD quality s/n), decreasing perceived quality even more. The other point completely missed is the fact the modern receivers have to drive 5,7 or 9 channels in standard AV receivers, compared to the 2 in the old equipment. (odd point in the article is that it complains about buying specs, but does a simple Wattage comparison against old receivers to make his point they are better..)
So don't just blame cheap equipment, blame the listeners who don't seem to care.
Then again, if nobody cares, is it really a problem ?
'Here's an intern, since you seem so very busy lately. They need to develop a useful application in 4 months, get to know corporate procedures, learn that an enterprise environment is different then a PC at home (no you can't reboot this server until the maintenance window is up, and you completed a valid change proposal for that utility), and oh yes, they do not get access to passwords so you take of of that, and just show them the ropes in your free time.'
Interns are mostly a waste of both our time if no adequate resources are allocated, management sees them as cheap labour, and interns come with unrealistic expectations.
I doubt that's SE's doing, since my wife has the same phone without those apps pre-installed in her firmware updates. A lot of carriers are bundling crapware with mobiles. Sprint is not the only one. It not only causes issues with the phone sometimes, but also delays firmware updates due to 'carrier customisations' (Hi Vodafone! Hope you're reading this as well, you @@$**!^ )
Just pick a phone that allows bootloader unlocking and become owner of your phone again.
Atari ST, a dedicated Help button, and being able to control the mouse with Alt-Cursor buttons. It took me ages to get used to working without that on windows.
Shall we tell them to shoot in black and white or SD as well ? If you say that 3D sucks, you are just as short sighted as some directors who think that everything in 3D is great.
If the movie is great, seeing it in 3D won't break the story.
However, seeing cyberpunk movies so far.. we'll probably get a 17 year old blond Molly with a soft spot for ponies. I'm more worried about that side of the movie.
This is not a home network. Peoples work and income depend on that network. It might look like a great job, but even when it is a mess, it is a working mess now. You won't learn everything you need to know before this thing needs to be in the air, and you run a risk of being run out of town, lynched, or something worse.
If you have unlimited budget, name your self network architect, follow a few nice courses, and hire people who know what they are doing to do your job.
In the letter there is a part which says: "We discovered that the intruders had planted a file on one of our Sony Online Entertainment servers named “Anonymous” with the words “We are Legion.”"
It's not much of an evidence in my eyes, but at least it's more then 'because we say so'.
I wonder how much of his coders come from the cracking scene, and how much from the demo-scene. The cracking scene has always had some ties with the demo scene (and in some cases demo groups where the 'legal-branch' of some hacking groups) but cracking PC games does not bring much skill for game coding. (or is x86 assembly code really such a special skill these days?)
Over here we already have to pay an indirect removal fee for a computer. Unlike other electronic equipment, where the price is a set fee which you are charged in the shop on top of your purchase (think in the area between 5 and 40 euro, a lot like the amount proposed in the.CA bill), the producer/importer of computer equipment pays these fees, as he is charged for the number of systems sold. This also encourages the producer of the systems to try to keep the recycling costs low.
While it may hurt a little bit in the wallet it can not be denied that the systems do have an environmental impact when they are disposed of.
It does not really leave much room for geeks like me who still have their first computers 'somewhere around', but I have no objections to a system like we have it here.
Apologies then.
The person who told me should know, since he is a developer, but hearing your comments, I relied on (deliberate?) false information.
I guess that even developers can be biased.
Especially since no direct hardware access is alowed, according to MS coding standards. (seems they are covering themselves for future upgrades).
Al hardware access is done with an API, so things like the shared memory model are only a performance issue, not a portability issue.
(It has to be an API, since its running a streamlined 2K kernel anyway).
But looking at these pics, i think the other way around will be much more fun.
Trying to make it run non Xbox x86 code.
The main problem will be any copyright/freakers protection they must have put in the system to prevent this.
I couldnt see any socketed ROMs in the picture, so the ultra easy way is off. Is there any way to 'listen in' to the data dat is being transferred from the DVD to the MoBo (with split cables etc etc)?
I'm not aware of this kind of tool, but if i can think it up, somebody must have made it.
There must be some sort of handshake going on to determine if its a bootable program in there, that is made for Xbox. If that could be cracked, sky would be the limit for messing around with the Xbox.
Ofcourse you could save yourself the trouble and just get an second hand PC for half the price of an Xbox to play with.
As for Xbox game resolution goes, it still is all up to the developer to support higher resolution graphics modes. Progressive scan will give a Lot more pixels to draw per second, and I wonder if users will accept lower res/lower poly models as a trade of for higher resolutions. Since the Xbox does not support VGA output, progressive scan support will stay a niche market for quite some time, and I fail to see why a developer would put much extra effort in this option.
Nice for spec sheets, but the extra resolution is not without some major drawbacks.
This crash reminds me a bit of a crash that happened years ago in Amsterdam, when an engine fell from a 747 cargo plane after take-off. The plane then tried to return to the field, but crashed in a flat because the broken off engine also caused major damage to the hydrolics system. There should be plenty voice comunication here between tower and plane for some information.
The only thing odd, is that it was an Airbus A300, not a Boeing A300(as stated on the CNN website). Airbuses don't have a perfect track record, but as far as i know, nothing with engines falling off. (it seems the NTSB database is even slashdotted now). But an A300 isn't exactly state of the art anymore.
As an expert;) (I saw the series Ancient Apocalypses) there must be some evidence of an event of such magnitude over the world.
In every part of the series they found evidence of some major event in the ice of the arctic.
Now that information would be nice to have online.
On 2) There are tons of devices that don't support MP4 substitles. (including the Xbox 360)
Why turn this into an anti Sony rant?
Shouldn't that be the religion of the receiver ?
(Unless it is really unimaginable for Amazon that people give presents across religious and ethnical boundaries.)
But I still want (and have) a smart phone.
Necessity is not the driver of the smart phone market.

If anybody needed a good example what a difference an apostrophe can make, this seems like a good one.

Funny story. Top speed of the SR-71B turns out to be exactly half the top speed of the TR-3B.

Well.. both pain and laughter release endorphins.
