I shouldn't post when not thinking. I could have sworn there was some issue with 1st gen payers not being comaptible with all dvds. I tried looking it up but found nothing on it so it was either very obscure and didn't affect alot of people or I was simply wrong. Since I couldn't find anything on it I think I was just wrong. My fault there I was apparently talkin out my ass and am glad to admit it. I do still stand by not buying early when formats are competing for dominance.

  2. Fools Buy Early on Broadcom's Treaty In the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD War · · Score: 1

I'm not saying anything about buying other things early. I bought my 360 the day it came out and I have shelled out way too much to get imports from Japan on all kinds of stuff but with competing formats I wait a few years and see how things go. Does anyone remember the DVD fiasco although the hardware was the same people had all kinds of formats that not all DVD players could play. It was a little over a year after DVDs came out that I went ahead and got a player. I had no intention of buying some thing only to find out no one makes any thing for it in less than a year. One of these formats is bound to die and I refuse to get stuck with hardware that is still new but obsolete. Both these formats could go away quick once the new holographic discs come out. They can hold around 300 GB and the company claims it can scale up to 1.5 TB a disc! I don't know about 1.5 TB seems a little far fetched to me but the 300 GB is exciting in itself. At that point who needs a huge hard drive? I just need a handful of holographic discs and a HD big enough for my os and installed apps.

I'm no fan of either OS they both have major pitfalls and security holes. I'm still waiting for a decent OS to be brought out and yes I have tried BSD and in my opnion it's no better than the other 2.

how many millions of dollars was wasted on this project? Yes it would be great for everyone to be able to get online and have a pc but there are more important issues that need addressing first. Adequate power and water, food and jobs, those are the things that need to be fixed before we start handing out laptops. The sentiment is great but misplaced. A very old saying comes to mind, If you give a man fish he eats that night but if you teach him to fish he will eat for the rest of his life. These laptops are just fish being handed out to the hungry. it will give them something for the moment but not extremely helpful in the long run. How many of the people that are intended to get them even know how to work a pc and who is going to teach them? There are bigger fish to fry than cheap electronics for people that don't have power and some cases even clean running water.

  5. Childish Reaction on School Official Sues Over MySpace Page · · Score: 2, Insightful

Whoever decided to sue children over a bad joke should be locked away from society themselves. These kids and their parents don't deserve fines or jail time. They should have had their behinds tanned, been grounded for a month or so and have to do some community service. Why does this woman even care if others think she is a lesbian? Being a teacher she should be very used to kids saying untrue and nasty things about her. When I was in high school I was a horrible kid and I don't know how many times I said this teacher or principal was gay or a lesbian. It was the normal insult that most of my friends used. Now that I'm an adult I see how silly using gay or lesbian as an insult. If she acted like an adult and simply told the kid's parents and had the site removed the problem would have been solved without making her look like she has something to hide. Not that anyone should be hiding if they are gay/lesbian, not like their is anything wrong with it. Animals have been doing it for a long time. You can not sue someone for posting a clip of a movie, song, or TV show if you first don't give them the chance to remove it. You have to first notify the individual in this case Youtube/Google that it's copyrighted and they don't have permission to use it. Then if they don't remove it you can sue. That's the way it works. I don't know what world you all live in that you think they are going to be sued constantly. That would only be the fact if they refused to remove the offending content. Which Youtube already does and Google has stated they will continue to do. Why on Earth people can't understand that is beyond me. Tons of policies are dumped out of Capitol Hill by the truck load, very few having any kind of real effect. It's not like any of this is a law that has to be followed. The next president could very well over write this whole policy with a new one. Since every day space travel is getting closer and closer these policies will change rapidly and very possibly with each and every president from now until the collapse of the US. I'm not saying we are going to collapse any time soon it's just that nothing last forever especially governments. People get all tied in knots over policies and it makes no sense. If you take a look at you own place of work how many policies are completely ignored? I know in my office we have dozens that no one pays any attention to.

  8. Re:Confusing Headlines As Usual on George Lucas To Quit Movie Business · · Score: 1

That depends on what part of the country you are in. While I was visiting friends in Mississippi I found theaters to be very very cheap, an average ticket costing a mere 7 dollars for an adult. On the other hand typical theater tickets in Boston, Mass are about 10 and children are 7. The Boston price I found is about average across the country. So counting 34 dollars for tickets another another 10 to park and your at 45. Now drinks candy and pop corn, drinks for a small are about 2 bucks and a large at 3.50 so another 11.50 for drinks. Candy is about 2 bucks a box and each kid will want at least one box for themselves and the parents will probably share something, at least the Dad will most likely get something so there's another 6 and popcorn is another 5. I suppose I was a little over but 67.50 is still pretty high for a family on a tight budget. When you consider the average consumer is overwieght and eats to much you can almost double the food costs. Parking for 10 in Boston is also a damn good price you could easily pay twice that and most large cities are about the same. I will adjust my original statemenet and say 65 to 100 is average and as you stated when the kids get older it gets a lot worse.

"Lucas states that for the price of one $200 million feature movie, 'I can make 50-60 two hour movies' that are 'pay-per-view and downloadable.'" What in that statement makes people think no more movies? Lucas did not say he was quitting the movie business he said he was pretty much cutting out theaters. He is right to do so. The theater experience is not what it used to be and costs have skyrocketed. What middle income family can afford 100 bucks for the movies every weekend? Assuming its a typical family of four tickets alone cost an average 35-40 bucks. When you throw in drinks, popcorn, candy and parking your at 100 or more. Hopefully we won't see too many rehashes of old work but some new and original stuff. I'm sure he is still capable of brilliant work.

That would give us a fresh start and maybe things could actually get finished instead of both sides just making faces at each other. I myself belong to the only party that should be allowed to exist. I think the more intellignet a person is the more suspicious they are going to be of the government. Why because we can see what's going on and understand it better than someone of lower intelligence. we are able to put all the oddds and ends together that an average man may miss. I know almanacs are just rough estimates and only for the coming year or so but it seems this could be applied to a superccomputer to get rough estimates for even farther ahead. Of course the data won't be 100% but isn't even the tinies bit of a warning better than nothing? I far one feel better knowing that the gov is at least trying then just saying "Screw it, it's weather and we can't predict it." Besides even if the data is completely wrong, data is data and it will be useful to the piont of at least figuring out what we missed.
