That's a lot of money for most people in canada when you consider that's tax free. I also think how much you take home depends on what type of homeless person you are. If you're a scummy annoying person you probably don't make as much as the "seems okay" sort of person. If you play decent music you might make more too. Think the bag pipers outside the Eaton center were making a lot of money. Then again I'm not sure they were even homeless, but they looked sort of "displaced" .

If people don't want Aero, then you should be able to turn it off (which you can). I think Microsoft is losing it. Paying for extra's like an "interface" that has been touted as the REASON MS has been so slow to release vista? And I have to pay for a better version to connect it to an Xbox? I mean I pay for this crap OS, and I pay $400 for their console (and more with games) and I have to pay MORE to connect my OS to their Xbox?

Apparently Balmer has a bigger view of the master plan here, but it would seem to me if MS wants to leverage their OS into the console, then all versions should connect to the Xbox.

Personally I think they should just cut it into standard and server edition. Just dump home. If you're going to have home edition, it should cost $50-60. Standard at $100, and server at $250. At this point I would really have reservations about vendor lockin with MS. I mean first they charge us more for crap stuff like managing file permissions and network connectivity, now they charge us more for wiz-bang interface improvments. Where is this going to end? Am I going to have to pay an extra $30 to defrag my hard drive in 6 years?

I work for a small business, and let me tell you - small servers are like the freaking PLAGUE with windows. Every solution vendor wants their OWN server to themselves. I laugh every time I see MS ads talking about consolidation. That's news to me. The most humorous ad I've seen this year was from IBM where this guy is talking about "These generic servers, they keep multiplying... they must have a queen" -- too true.

I've since stopped even trying to fight for "two things on one server". I've just seen them fall over dead too many times because of a crappy application. Simple upgrades become a nightmare when one application needs one thing, and the other wants a different version.

The FreeBSD/Linux boxes on the network do a TON of different things, and only require different boxes if they are in different physical locations, or the application scales past one smaller server. As I've said many times before, MS's biggest friend and worst enemy are all of these crappy software solutions that require Windows.

Now days I just have a RF modulator to convert the signals from digital/rca connectors to coax for my TV (that's the ONLY connector it has). I used to look forward to the days when a nice new HD tv would be nice, but now I wonder if I'll be able to play anything at all.

I've also done a bit of research on this power supply and I have seen reviews using a load generator. The power "quality" is very good until you get towards the high end and it degrades a bit but well within tolerenaces. They also left it under maximum load for 2 hours by mistake and the power supply was still hanging in there (although hot as hell).

I've had this thing for over 2 years with no complaints. I am however well aware that this thing maxes out at 300 watts so I'm picky about what components I use in my machine, but I seriously do not want to be using more than 300 watts anyway. Athlon 64 3400, Geforce 6800, 2 hard drives, raid card, tv capture card, 2 dvd burners - this seems to handle all of that with no problems. My wife learned English as her second language and often relates about how difficult it is to learn because it has so many words, but admits that it's nice because you can say EXACTLY what you mean. As our education system declines, people find it harder and harder to express themselves. So they end up using words that are similar, but not necessarily the same. The result is a blurring of meanings, which directly leads to very vague ideas in the language. As people adapt this language it becomes difficult to really say what you mean, so you end up with ridiculous redundant concepts like "one-of-a-kind uniqueness", because people have lost the clarity in using the words correctly in the first place.

I doubt Sony really has much of a comprehensive plan on a target market aside from throw out as much hype as possible and try to dazzle everyone you can.

Sony and MS seem to be missing the really big picture here, and that's that there is a HUGE untapped market that's going to be emergeing - everyone ELSE. My wife likes to play various games, but is quite dismayed at the fact that very very little seems to appeal to females at all. I think once we see a company actually bought out and their software trashed and how things are picked up, the open source community will have a better benchmark on when they should fork and do it themselves. I'd like to say the OS community is quick and agile, but more often than not too many people end up fence sitters and nothing happens. Just look at how long it took to fork X11 to get things moving again.

I don't think we're going to see that here unfortunatly, because there are other options and way too many players. I think now people need to look at how Oracle is going to attempt to cut off Postgresql, because that's going to be the next logical target over time, unless MySQL manages to pull it together.

But if you were to say, get socially ridiculed - then kids are going to be FAR more inclined to at least learn and know enough to fit in. I think that's why many of these education programs to improve things will fail.
