Make it run ventrilo out of the box too, and half the WoW playerbase will switch!
No, WoW guilds won't switch to teamspeak just so the uber nerd can play on linux, believe me i've asked!
I had a similar setup to yourself, but i didn't need that second copy of firefox. I assume you mean that you clicked a.torrent link in firefox, and it automatically loaded in uTorrent?
My solution wasn't quite as simple, but I preferred it. Set up uTorrent to automatically load torrent files from whatever directory, then have linux-firefox automatically download all files with.torrent extensions to that directory, and you are all set. uTorrent never pops up in front of firefox on you, either.
Tried ubuntu again last week, attempting to make the switch from windows.
Boots to liveCD mode, which is a cool idea, with just an install button on the desktop for permanent install. So i tried that out, selected a partition, which is difficult since the labels i apply in windows to all my partitions aren't displayed in Ubuntu... So i selected what looked like my old windows partition, and told it to blow that away and install there. It went through the install process, got me to remove the CD and reboot.
"could not load operating system"
Well, that was fun, back to windows. Talking to a linux friend the next day, we figured it probably installed to a hard drive that wasn't the primary one (I have 4 SATA drives, thus the confusion) Really though, you just can't have that sort of thing happen during an OS install! Why can't it figure out such an obvious problem on it's own!?
I would certainly guess that "took me about 5 minutes" is very much proportional to your past Linux experience. I realize as a WinTard, i'm treading dangerous waters here, but having been born and bred on Windows variants since 95, it's incredibly difficult, even though i might consider myself an XP "power user", to totally make the switch to Linux. Dual boot, or VMWare type solutions don't interest me in the least either...
But at this point in my computing life, i'm at a neat crossroads where i require very little windows-only applications to suit my needs. No longer am i trying every latest game that comes out, i'm addicted to WoW along with 10 million others, and i assume many of them are in the same position. I know Linux will play my media, download my torrents, and surf the web, and if it will handle WoW without a week of grief, it would be a good time for Linux to grab me by the balls. Here's hoping.
Interesting... My last serious attempt at linux would have been an earlier release of Ubuntu, where i had issues getting SATA RAID 0 going, but i've since moved away from RAID junk, so that wouldn't be an issue. My last real attempt at windows gaming on Linux would have been a couple years ago, and between video driver hell and WINE installation hell, i gave up after 2 weeks on linuxnewbie.org or whatever it was. I'll give the latest Ubuntu a shot this weekend and see how she flies.
Vista gave me serious OS envy, but won't run worth anything with only 1GB of ram. Come on Ubuntu, save me from the demons! (or show me the demons i suppose, in the case of WoW)
Surely i'm not the only simpleton XP user that longs to switch to Linux if only I could get WoW running in just a few clicks. I'll spend a couple hours installing a distro, if it's not going to force me to spend a couple weeks reading and trial-and-error'ing my way through linux hell only to realize it's hopeless and i'll never get my game running.:(
RTFM is so 1999.
been using it for a year now for our Java development on an AT&T contract. Pretty sweet IDE compared to my years of using visual studio. They like not having to buy visual studio for me now as well.
Shot them an email, said i'm from Canada, wasn't sure if that affected my eligibility.
Hell, I can use an extra 10 grand or whatever they will pay me for this. not sure yet whether I have to give up work for a year, in which case i'd require a lot more money, and maybe they can work with my employer to ensure I have a job when I get back... who knows.
They replied, and asked that i give their office a call, so i think i'll do that after work. I could use a nice change of scenery for a while at the very least. Not too concerned that they'd be subjecting me to anything LETHAL. i'm sure it's quite harmless, so i'll try to capitilize on the public's fear or something...
I can run em both without spending 3 hours making the transition to linux only to find out i STILL can't make it work right, and have to go back to windows.
and i keep coming back for more every time. damn you intriguing linux!!
Slightly off topic question here. I know of a spam center here in my city that i'm quite sure is larger than the one this guy is running. They have dozens of servers doing nothing but email spam, 24/7. Wondering how i could convince someone to do a bit of investigative reporting into this place, and expose what's going on in our little town... The people I know who work there hate it, but they claim it's got to be the largest spam provider in the world.
That would be empire earth. most promising RTS game of all time, that was killed by Sierra dickiness.

don't forget morpheus, that's a great source of dreamcast games to try before you buy. I only play about 4 games, and i've paid for those, but i have a spindle of almost 50 crappy games, that i'm glad i had a chance to try first. piracy can be good, sometimes

Chances that the feds think this Core is really the old w4r3z group from the 90's? (maybe they're still around, i don't keep up anymore.)

firefox was fine, IE was broken. using IE 6, installed on work PC.
I eagerly await XISO_Google_DRM_fix_TUF_release.rar or something to that effect...
there is a D&D mmorpg game in the works right now, in alpha/beta at the moment i believe.

who ORDERS corn flakes?
www.smoothwall.org ??
all the clans we play against will move to jupiter and get their home server there, just for the ping rapage.
Only 8% slower in performance with a 40% slower clock speed. Not too shabby.
but what is the price difference?
