I'm not sure if you were just mentioning the car you liked, but I was referring to the Shelby GT 500 mustang in Gone in 60 Seconds compared to most of the cars in fast and the furious.
Gone in 60 was chock full of sweet cars, not just Eleanor, but the Charger in TF&TF just sticks out like that, being one of the only bright spots. I found it amusing that whatshisname was afraid to drive it.
Actually, the Supra in TF&TF was pretty nice, too, it's eyeball numbing appearance notwithstanding.
Personally I'm one of the people who got a bit more excited watching that mustang rip up the streets in Gone in 60 Seconds than the little rice rockets of Fast and the Furious.
Charger:)
Even if you want to talk newer cars instead of the classic hot rods, I don't see how people can even begin to compare a nice gen4 Ram-Air Firebird and an Impreza. One look and you can almost hear them say "I'm ready to eat you" and the other says "I'm ready to drive my family to the market and buy cereal."
Remember the last TransAm commercial? That's the one that finally sent me out into the streets desperate to find one of the last F-bodies.
While I would never tell a newbie to fuck off, it is irritating how many people will not RTFM. Some of the How-Tos may be outdated (it's been a while since I looked through them), but they still provide a good jumping off point. Hell, it been a while since I ran Linux (I cut my teeth on slackware, am I 31337?) but I learned a LOT from those How-Tos. Most Linux distros have gotten so easy to install that people think they can just blunder their way thru the GUI to get things done, like you can do with MS and Mac OSes, and they're puzzled when that doesn't work. It's not rocket science, but you DO have to READ. I've had so many friends and co-workers ask me questions, and I point them to relevant sources to read up on the answer, but that's not what they want, they want to me to tell them step by step how to do it. And these aren't idiots I'm talking about, they're fairly clued-in, tech savvy people who want an alternative to Windows. But they won't fucking read! *pant*pant*
I'm female, and I'd rather just read "his" in place of all this P.C. crap.

Can afford a $399 iPod but can't afford Office vX?
Probably just didn't want to pony up $400+ for Office. MS loses nothing when kids like this pirate their software because if they couldn't get it for nothing, they probably wouldn't buy it anyway.
Open Sourcing AppleWorks 7 to be the new free business app of choice on Windows, Linux, and Mac's that will kill reliance on MS Office.
This actually sounds like a pretty damned good idea. I could see why Apple wouldn't want to port OSX to intel, but it doesn't seem like they'd lose much by open sourcing AppleWorks. To the contrary, actually - cut Office off at the knees, and provide the entire market with a stable, free office suite that anyone can use on any platform. Computer users NEED this.
I came from a rural area, and lived most of my life in rural area's. [...] Sure, there are fans who don't fall into the stereotype, but I can say from too much first hand experience that the stereotype is more often right than wrong.
And you have just re-enforced the stereotype that people from rural areas are ignorant, close-minded idiots.
One of the most important things with something like Linux is the ability to customise it. A Kernel should be completely tweaked and optimised for the hardware that it is running - and not have anything that it is not running!
The last thing that the geek who helped me install Linux for the first time said was, "Go home, and recompile your kernel." I don't understand what the controversy is; it's really not that hard. I had no trouble figuring it out - it just took a while on 4mb of RAM. I've done it many times over the years, and never broken anything. I'm not an idiot, but I'm not that geeky, either. So, why shouldn't Joe User be allowed, nay, encouraged, to rebuild his kernel?
Show of hands, who would use a system like this if it was priced at say $1 - $3 per song depending on the age of the song??
I definitely would, if we're talking about a decent selection of songs. CDNow used to have a build yer own CD section - I just looked at the site and don't see it anymore, but I might be missing it. I never used it because I couldn't find any songs/artists I was interested in, and if I'm not mistaken, some of the tracks were covers. I would pay a premium to be able to buy just the songs I like and have them on one disc. And the bonus track-free sample notion is a good one, as well. I bought my first Dead Can Dance cd after an Amazon recommendation, and a Tarkan cd (Turkish pop) after someone on Napster suggested it.
It is most likely that the squid didn't attack the whale, but vice versa. Squid are a favorite food of the sperm whale, and it has been suggested that some of the circular scars seen on the bodies of sperm whale were caused by the suckers on the end of the giant squids clubs (or cookie cutter sharks, who have circular mouths and use them to take round scoops of flesh out of their prey. Anyone further interested in Architeuthis should check out Richard Ellis' "Search for the Giant Squid". Mr. Ellis also makes the observation that some of the sea monsters sighted in the past may have been dead or dying Architeuthis floating near the surface. Good stuff!
Agreed, something to think about...If every citizen in the US were armed, we'd probably be seeing plenty of that kind of thing, like this silly bitch. I am rabidly anti-gun control, but we do have a lot of morons and yahoos running around.
Boy, I can see the lawsuits now. I read a post from a guy in a Mercedes newsgroup who claimed that his friend was successfully sued by a car thief who claimed that his hearing was damaged by the victim/defendants car alarm.
Not IME. I started out as a temp doing ISP tech support, got hired permenant and moved to the elite second level support, then was dragged kicking and screaming off to the NOC (yes, I'm a sicko, but I actually liked doing tech support, at least at a tier two level). Now, I'm somekinda jr. sysadmin/technical writer/net. engineer gofer. Which is actually not bad, since I can dabble in whatever I feel like and not be tied to one aspect. Anyway, I wouldn't dismiss a tech support position as an entry level position, *especially* for someone who has the know how, but not the degrees. It's a foot in the door.
"Around 3 or 4 in the morning, out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone creeping up on my left, holding a big knife. I snapped my head around to see better and of course there was nothing there.
I immediately packed up my books and went to bed. Time for some sleep! "
Yowza, how could you sleep after that? I see "things" out of the corner of my eye when I've been up and at it too long, but if one of those things was ever as distinct as someone creeping up on me holding a big knife, regardless of whether or not it was there when I turned my head, that would pretty much preclude any sleeping for that night.
When I was in high school, we had a place where we'd go on the weekends to party - a little cleared spot in the middle of a corn field with a falling down house, barn, rusty combine, and a small, old family cemetary (complete with 100 year old headstone carved with the name "Mary Jane") A friend and I waited there alone one night to watch the fire while the others made a beer run, and despite our best efforts the fire went down to just embers. We began to hear a persistant rustling coming from the bushes that lined the fence around the little graveyard, slowly growing louder and closer, and sat there in the dark clutching each other and whimpering. It let our terror escalate to just the highest possible point before we broke and ran screaming into the night, then the rabbit revealed itself and shot away into the field.
Rabbits get damned sick and tired of being known as one of the most timid types of animals around, so they've learned that hanging around a cemetary at dusk is the best way to get their revenge.
"After he had buried his 28th gang member, Brother James Holub, a Jesuit, looked for a way to stop the killings. Arguing that "nothing stops a bullet like a job", he decided to turn youngsters from local street gangs into programmers."
Youngsters from local street gangs. Let's see, what do they do in gangs? I guess Milwaukee "street gangs" help little old ladies cross the street. I bet that 28th gang member that Brother Holub buried was fatally injured while volunteering at a local nursing home. I'm so sorry for calling them criminals.
"What a narrowminded, and let's face it stupid thing to say. Crawl back under your rock"
Don't kill the messenger. I think the comment was meant to point out the fact that an ex-con, for example, *is* going to have a hard time finding an employer or apartment leasing office that will accept him or her. It's not impossible, but that black mark on the record is going to get the application tossed into the round file in many cases.

Yes, Danny Elfman rocks! He also did the score to Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Black Beauty, Sleepy Hollow, Beetlejuice...
Oh, yeah, and if you like the Gladiator soundtrack, make sure you scoop up some Dead Can Dance CDs.
Godzilla...or Cthulhu?

I pay hefty ass school taxes, so what are public schools doing accepting money from advertisers? This is revolting.

I read in Colin Wilson's "A History of Murder" that violent crime is on the decline, but I don't have a copy with me at the moment, so I can't quote.
