I guess i disagree somewhat. Nintendo was losing the console wars until they made Wii. And Wii doesn't necessarily do everything PS3/Xbox does and better. In fact in a lot of ways is way less powerful. However they still compete and win. Instead of playing the sony/microsoft game, trying to outdo them with more powerful hardwear and super-killer graphics, they changed the game. They went back to gaming basics - simple, fun to play, easy to play, and easy to learn with their wii controlers. It was an instant hit because it appealed to "the rest of us".
That's what apple has done. It wasn't about the best hardware or even the most features. They have the coolness factor.
You dont beat a leader by playing their game, you change the game. I dont think an iPhone knockoff like this appears to be will work. They need to reinvent what a phone is. my 2 pennies.
So what you really learned was not science, it was critical thinking. That's what science (and the scientific method) boils down to, yet credit is not often given where it is due. Critical thinking is the core of all philosophy and engineering.
Our ancestors didn't dream up the electoral college for those reasons. They did it out of practical reasons of governing such a large country. Obviously, those reasons are no longer valid due to advances in technology. We dont need states and lines to decide a president, we need people to. You're so concerned about what is to do away with it and look at what should be.
The borders ARE arbitrary. It doesnt't matter how they were drawn. Some people would still get more say than others. That's the point.
That's also a false choice. Why should they get more say than me? Just because they live out in rural america they should have special privledges? It's not about playing first or second its about playing equal. If any one person gets more voice in elections than another, it's inherently unequal, regardless of how you slice the population due to arbritrary lines in the sand.

There's nothing stopping Google from creating their own "approved application" store and automatically sending most folks to that site. That doesn't mean they have to shut out everyone else. It just means they say "hey, we have looked at these apps and know they work and conform to our guidelines. Use them first. If you want to put other stuff on your phone, feel free, but at your own risk."

A) Take it to china, where the government steals it from me, says "thanks, now get back to work" OR B) Take it to the US, patent it, start a company, and make boat loads of $$.

Some may use it because it's "fun", but that's just a surface level claim. Dig deeper and there's a lot more going on than they simply the desire to have "fun". Underneath every drug addict i've seen it wasn't about fun but about escaping from something.

For the record, i'm not HIV+, but i have many friends who are. They did not pick it up because they were being promiscuous or unfaithful. (Their partners turned to drugs due to various social problems, and transmitted it to them) Drugs play a HUGE role in destroying the gay community. They are responsible for many, many HIV transmissions. Do you know why gays turn to drugs? Because there are politicians, bigots, and slashdotters saying we're not real people and dont deserve to marry. The pain is real, and so are the consequences.
