  1. No on Ask Slashdot: Do You Still Use Optical Media? · · Score: 1

Not had any need for CD/DVD/BR for many years now. And installing a OS from a good USB stick is way, way faster anyways. But I bought a external USB Blue-ray recorder that I keep on the shelf in case of some weird device with drivers on CD only or something like that. Haven't needed it yet..

Even if you pay for a Win10 license, you still get the Start menu ads, forced telemetry etc. I could kinda understand why when Win10 was for free, but how do they justify showing ads and not being able to disable Windows Store etc. when the user is on a payed for licenses?

  10. If you want to compare oranges, in Norway we have a population density of about 14 persons per sq km. I don't live near a city or anything like that, and for $70 a month I have a 80/80mbit fiber connection going directly to my house. No size limitations what so ever, and the speed is always what I pay for.

  13. Explanation for why Norway topping the chart on Google Searches For 'VR Porn' Increase 10,000% (vrtalk.com) · · Score: 1

I think I can explain why Norway is topping the VR porn chart. With Norway being a high cost country, the price of a flagship smartphone becomes relatively low compared to many other things like cost of living etc. So in our country Samsung has been very successful in marketing the Galaxy S7 with the the free GearVR bundle. It's definitively one of the most popular phones at the moment. I see them everywhere. In fact when I purchased my S7, Samsung Norway was so overwhelmed by orders that they had run out of GearVR bundles, and had to ship the VR googles later when they got new ones from overseas. So at the moment there is a lot of GearVR users in Norway, looking for content. And as we all know, internet is for porn.

All this "people must learn to code" stuff is such a load of self serving crap. It's obvious what the plan is, flood the marked with cheap 'coding' labor for the large software corporations to gobble up. And if a large crowd of at best mediocre 'coders' is what the world needs, fine go ahead. You usually end up getting what you pay for.

  17. I got the notification spam from Microsoft apps too, and the solution was simple. I disabled any notification for the offending apps in Android. When I want to work on a document I open it. There is no need for notifications of any kind in this type of application. So in a classic example of cry wolf, Microsoft has made it so that I will no longer get any notifications from their apps.
