If you find yourself in need of access to some restricted information, just pretend you are from CBP and get them to unlock the phone/computer for you. Pretty much makes encryption worthless.
Playing in Casinos is more like a IQ test. Only idiots and the few exceptional bright would play a game where everything is in the houses favor and the house can change the rules as they see fit.
No, they only said "a digital camera from 3 meter away". So it could be anything like a professional 40MPixel DSLR with a tele lens zoomed into the finger for all we know.
Initially the whole point of ARM that made it so successful on the mobile platform, was simple and energy efficient architecture.
Lately it seem that ARM is more about fitting as much complexity as possible into a single chip..
We like to think that the world has become such nice and civilized place. But somehow we are still plagued by warlords roaming the land causing havoc and making peoples lives miserable.
Get where? Lighting some street lamps? That about the extent of usability you can expect. And even that only works because the lamps are placed locally right next to the panels. You don't get enough energy to do anything useful like melting snow, and transporting the small amount of energy you get anywhere would be insanely costly and inefficient.
potentially prohibiting Samsung from imbuing the phone with one of its most compelling features
Am I the only one that think removing stuff I did not want in the first place is a compelling feature? It's becoming more and more clear that I am no longer in the target market for smartphones.
1. Create a new problem by taking away user control of bandwidth usage, forcing untimely app and windows update,s telemetry etc.
2. Sell a solution to the new problem.
Have you considered there is a reason your searches for "best text editor", "best programming color scheme" etc. result in similar looking 'low contrast' schemes. If they are so bad and people don't use them, why are they so popular then?
Here is a hint. Try sitting in front of a computer reading text and coding all day, every day using a full contrast black on white editor and your brain is going to fry. For people with normal vision it is much less taxing on the eyes during long sessions using a well designed low contrast scheme designed for the task. Something like for example Obsidian or similar that you further tweak to your personal taste/sight.
Where are the new features that people actually need?
Like for example being able to watch a live video stream in a browser without being a web guru and relying in complex server infrastructure.
Instead of a simple [img src="rtsp://videoserver/live1/"] being part of the standard, we have all these big players pushing complex "trying to solve everything" systems that nobody but a select few have the time and resources to get up and running properly.
My Samsung Galaxy S7 has a home, power and volume buttons. And guess what, I use them all the time.
Especially having a tactile home and power button is very useful for the typical quick turn on screen to check time or messages, and then turn off screen again.
I also have 128GB SD card in my phone for storage, and use the headphone jack daily. But that is another story..
Last time I checked chipset drivers for Intel are maintained by Intel them self. Only relevant M$ driver I can think of that would be affected is the ACPI. So pretty much all the work and cost supporting Windows 7 would be done by Intel.
They way Google is behaving is it any wonder that people are starting to mistrust their services and products? How can you rely on something when you know it's just a matter of time before they radically change or discontinue..

I'll take the lightweight version with a 'old school' UI that only does OS tasks without the shop and telemetry thank you very much.

Wait, what!? Windows 10 has a store?

it's a feature..
Do management types actually think that using marketing speak makes a positive impression on people?

And I predict a sharp decline in Windows 10 sales the year after, once businesses have gotten some experience in dealing with the Windows 10 system.
basically we are finally getting close to previous CRT contrast levels?

I still remember when the entire OS including apps would have taken less then that..

Make the emotion transmitter. You know, for science reasons..
Because world problems are not technical, they are political (including religion) and economical.
Why the need to try and sell the post on Slashdot with a misleading title? The early S8 release is nothing but pure speculation from some analysts.
Operating systems are just tools, use whatever makes the most sense for the job.
The problem is when the OS stops being a tool for your benefit.

Breaking news! Physical access to computers, makes them more susceptible to security exploits.
