You're really struggling for something to critisize eh? It's a bad habbit. Lots of people use a particular word more often than they should. Consider the word "basically".
I hear it all the time: "So basically, it is basically like this, which basically leads to this, then you basically get what you want. Basically."
Listen for it, lots of people have their own over-used word.
It's a shame that on Linux and Windows the Mac paradigm is not possible: of having an application loaded with no open windows.
There's a nice plugin called Minimize to Tray for Firefox and Thunderbird that, by using it's -turbo option, can keep a window loaded in the background for you.
Is this just another move to encroach on the open source community?
No, of course not. This is just another move to make money. Microsoft is a business, they make money. Just like if you owned a business and customers started going to your competitor, you would do all you can to keep your customers coming to you. Money drives everything. Haven't you learned?
I'm afraid I would get a lot closer to that 'national average' than I want
My wife and I don't have cable for a reason. Nothing makes me more pissed off than watching hours of sitcoms entirely comprised of people bickering and complaining about insignificant things. This is entertainment?
And that's only a release candidate for 0.2. I'm already using it though. I was using Outlook, but I found it was clogging up memory with so many features that I don't use. With Thunderbird you can at least add the features you do use. I imagine Sunbird will be the same in later versions.
Or just don't announce the exploits. If the problem is with Windows, tell Microsoft. If it's with Firefox, tell the Mozilla Foundation. Tell whoever needs to know to fix it. But don't announce it to the whole bloody world. All you're doing is helping the bastards find extra features to put into their programs.
Why not use somthing like Ad-Watch, which comes bundled in the Plus and Professional versions of Ad-Aware? That would certainly save a lot of heartache.
I don't use it on my machine only because when windows pop up out of nowhere telling me I absolutely need to download something, I know I don't. But I wouldn't trust hundreds to thousands of employees of a company to know the same.
I second this. Last month I formatted (finally) and decided to install both Linux (SuSE 9.1) and Windows XP. I am no Microsoft loyalist, but... Most of my time in Linux was trying to figure out how to make things work (screen resolution, mouse wheel, installing programs). Linux has a great potential, I will never argue that. I'm not going to nuke my Linux half. In fact I'll probably explore a few other distros. But Linux has a long way to go before it's on most desktops.
I tried hotwayd, but it'll only handle hotmail. FreePOPs on the other hand, will handle, hotmail (not for long), GMail, Yahoo, and others since each protocol is written as a plugin. So new providers can be added easily. A Linux port is available as well. You can't lose. Use that along with FireDaemon to run it as a service (in Windows), and you never even have to realize it's there.
I may be wrong, but if there is no one producing it in your country, then doesn't that mean that there isn't a copyright for it in your country.

I try to lock myself in a room with my computer, but my wife keeps getting in.

Flash player isn't free? Since when?
Let's see if the Linux community can match his generosity.
If they could and did, we probably wouldn't know since they probably wouldn't go telling the whole world about their generosity.

I've never used Windows Media anyways.
I expect my music files to contain only music.

I think a lot of the problems we have with systems today are caused by the failure of the original designers [brains.]
He apparantly thinks God is a curse word.
The first sign of the Apocalypse.
Bacause greed and hate wasn't obvious enough.
Not only that, but the universe would explode. Think of the paradox: Slashdot being Slashdotted is like going back in time and killing your father.

You can tell from the pictures (4th one down specifically) that this guy has got to be a father... I hope...
Just to test out this "new technology" I compared a few search results for common searches, from both Accoona and Google.
Searching for "Shareaza"
Position of shareaza.com
Google: 2nd result (though 1st was their sourceforge page)
Accoona: 4th result
Searching for "Kazaa"
Position of kazaa.com
Google: 1st result
Accoona: 20th page!
Searching for "Microsoft"
Position of microsoft.com
Google: 1st result
Accoona: 11th result
Searching for "Sourceforge"
Position of sourceforge.net
Google: 1st result
Accoona: 1st result
Searching for "Slashdot"
Position of slashdot.org
Google: 1st result
Accoona: 3rd result
Accoona only matched Google 1/5 times. I think the point is proven. My Googlebar stays.
The only good thing about this site getting Slashdotted, is that the torrent'll get some damn fine seeding.
This shouldn't take too long...

I just realized something. Maybe that's why this company's worldwide headquaters is in Oakville.
I agree.
For those of us living in Southern Ontario, our water comes from Lake Ontario. Is that any better?
I'd drink it to. Think of it this way: it'll give your immune system something to do. After all, practice makes perfect!
I wouldn't touch Norton with a 10-foot pole either.

more than that, whenever you're driving your car seat's feeling you up....
