    And that's gotta be one of the best first posts ever. Entirely off topic.

    My wife is better at, well, uh, working... damn...

    But I spent three years working as a cook in a restaurant, which brought me up to her level of cooking. I like to experiment though. The only thing that went bad (so far) was some fish I made that she didn't like at all and just couldn't eat.
    A cook is only as good as his ingredients.

  12. Re:Trust them on Rules for Teenage Internet Access? · · Score: 1

    on the other side of this, my dad (I'm 20 now, and maybe 6 months out of the house) was the kind that said "my house, my rules"... not a good idea... especially with a kid as stubborn as me... :) the computer did become an issue, only because I was on it a lot, sometimes into the wee hours of the morning... we always had conversations/arguements like "it's late", "it's late for what? I have nothing to get up for in the morning.", "it's late, get off"... etc. etc. etc...
    not explaining rules is a terrible idea... terrible... with myself and my father it created a lot of stress... and it ended with him kicking me out of the house... it was better this way though... we actually get along better now...
    but I do agree, and appreciate some things he's done... like co-signing my student loan... but as for if I will let my future children have computers in their room? no... they'll know why, but no... unless they buy their own... then that's another matter for discussion...

  13. only if it hurts others... on Mandated Regulation/Certification for Computer Repair? · · Score: 1

    Any profession that requires certification require such because a lack of knowing what your doing can be a safety issue... car repair, since if your tires, for example, are put on wrong and fall off in traffic, it can have devistating consequences... hair design, because, as you said, of the chemicals, etc... even plumbing because it can damage others' appartments if you have a serious leak in yours, or even worse...
    repairing your computer badly is no safety issue at all... unless your hard drive starts spinning backwards, catches fire, and burns your house down... but until I see something like that in the news, it's no safety issue... if you hire someone bad, and they screw up costing you more money, it's your own fault for hiring someone without the experience, or who just doesn't know what they're doing...

    let the buyer beware.

    this is the exact reason I'm not going to programming... at least not with a big corporation... I've been told more than once that I could have work my ass off in high school and go to the University of Waterloo and then make tons of money! but frankly, I don't want to... I love programming, yes... but a job with a huge corporation brings huge stress...
    so I decided to be simple... not give up computers entirely... I don't think I could... so I'll teach it... in high school... I get to do what I love, while making something of a difference in people's lives... and a whole whack less stress... and a whole whack more happiness...
