By that comparison, since the term "electronic mail" was later shortened to e-mail by lazy people, shouldn't we change "web log" to w-log or wlog, instead of "blog"?
Actually, i've used a hyper-threaded system (dual 2.0ghz xeons) and it's really not that much faster. Maybe intel fixed some stuff on the final spec, but the chips felt faster not in HT mode...
I think you misunderstood me, i think the article should be more consice on this point.
I only say this because, for example, joe blow user sets up openbsd based on the article, then installs a vulnerable package but thinks it's secure based on the article. He then gets hacked/cracked/owned whatever and blames the project when it's clearly not their fault, but that of either bad adminning and/or bad/lazy programming.
While i use OpenBSD 3.1 on my server at home, and love their security standpoint, i couldn't help but correct the article. It mentions that there's been one hole in 6 years, what it doesn't say, is that it is only the default install that has that track record, not the ports database or any of the apps people compile themselves. It's an important distinction to make.
Actually, you are incorrect. My sony XBR 450, does 1080i on the component inputs (1080 lines of horizontal resolution). In a 16:9 format, the verticle lines would be 1920. Do the math, and the research.
I wonder if it sounds anything like cat/dev/urandom >/dev/dsp. Personally, i think Seti@home executable sounds the coolest, followed by any NTFS filesystem. Dont ask me why, but sometimes it sounds like trance/techno music, even has the right BPM.
Whee...just another thing for the MPAA/RIAA/Government to put DRM and copy-protection type things in. Yippee, a DVD player that won't play old-style DVD-Audio, but only new-style. Without CD-R support, or backwards compatibility. I just can't wait.
Yeah, we got outta the DSL game pretty quick. Now, we have a small dialup userbase and have a pretty large web-hosting client base. It seems to be more stable hosting companies than hosting service for a bunch of users.
I agree with the post, havent read the article yet, but...
We work at a small ISP that used to (try) to offer DSL service, it worked for a few buisness clients, but the problem is, we are in california, and our telco is SBC/Pacbell/Devil-Company. It was so much of a hassle to deal with, and also too expensive. I don't think we made much profit on that deal at all...pacbell were whores. We ditched that pretty quick.
the funny thing is...yes, or close enough, replace sourceforge with kernel.org. I can't tell you how many times i've seen 1337 R3dH4t W4rez on Kazaa and warez sites...
I duno, the closed and copy-protected hardware thing seems a bit stupid to me. The whole PC market will turn into an apple-look-alike. With only certain hardware able to be used in a machine. I think a better solution would be to not include digital rights management anywhere at all...
This is a comparison of installing windows and linux. It seems to me that it looks like it's comparing a sony operation system restore and linux. The REAL win2k install (without things like mcaffee) only takes (if memory serves) 3 reboots also and no cd swaps. In my opinion, this is not a very professional article/study/benchmark and should be taken with a grain of salt.
This is going to be great for NAS applications and managing racks of drives. Ultrafast buses all to one and another. Great for network backup too. I havent looked at prices yet, but hopefuly it's not too expensive to implement in a home environment.
Maybe i missed it in the article, but i didnt see where it said if this were to be an offroad race or an onroad race. I did see that FUTURE ones wil lbe a combonation. Can anyone shed some light on this?
[rant] Because it's slashdot. Why is there links to nytimes where nobody signs up every 10 minutes? It's slashdot. Why is everyone who says this is legal (because it is) gettong modded down?
i think you might have the incorrect number, i mean, i found the "1" but where's the "91". I dont think the numbers go up that high, am i supposed to spell out nintey one? Hmm, im all so confused...
BTW: i agree with you on the 911 thing, i have called 2 times (REAL emergencies, other times i needed the police, i called their local number) and one time it was busy. can you believe that? busy. good thing the person i called it for wasnt hurt too bad.
That's a damn good idea. Run legOS on the mindstorms and code a small c server/client that work with LNP. Sure beats out our office-cam idea.
By the way, php-controlled movable office cam w/ lego mindstorms and vision command is cool. Next objective is the remote-rontrolled tank w/ wireless cam for over-the-web.
ah... i didn't even think of syllables...durr me. thanks for pointing that out

grr..if i hadn't posted in here, i could have modded you up by now. =)

Foolish governments are run by big foolish children, also known as politicians.

It's only been like 20 seconds, and the link has been slashdotted. Too bad there's no google cache.
There needs to be an entry in the guiness book of records.
"Fastest Slashdotting"

actually..with service pack3 that's only one reboot...and maybe one more for IE6.

That's what i was thinking too..maybe it's just closed backroads or something like that. Whatever.
