    I know there are tons of horror stories about paypal, but the silent and vast majority enjoy the service.

    Also, you do not need to get a paypal account to pay for an item over paypal using a regular old credit card -- and then only the credit card TOS is relevant to you. So he didn't lose a sale because he has a paypal account, he lost a sale because of your ideology.

    And really, boycotts rarely affect anyone but the boycotters.

    As a longtime transgaming subscriber, I can tell you that wine really does work as well as pictured. However, it uses an absolutely offensive amount of ram while it does so. I don't knwo how closely related the branches are though.

    I can't really see the light until I find the perl version of it. I guess I've been spending too much time in perl land. I had to look at Catalyist to figure out RoR. Heh.

    But perl has Test::Class which does a whole xUnit type thing inside the Test::Harness framework. Nice. However it also tells me on that page, not to bother with it unless I'm reduplicating the same code over and over in my tests -- which I usually do not.

    I guess Test::Harness is plenty for average joes like me.

    Or, for that matter, I could use grease monkey, or write a proxy...

    However, the advantage of uploading the css, is that you can share it with others (if they implement it that way), and it works the same at work, home, mom's house, etc -- just by logging in.

    I suppose the proxy would work from anywhere... but I'd still have to set it. Lame.

    It's frustrating for the customers too. They have no idea why their connection is so slow. I'd say 7 of 10 tech support calls these days somehow relate to spyware. I get a lot of, "Your service is so slow lately, I can hardly get pages to come up at all. What can you do about it? Why is it so slow!?!? The problem is on your end. I run spybot and adaware!!!."

    Thank god I'm second level support. Our first level people look like they're going to pop. About half of my dialup IPs are on the dnsbls and I can't seem to get people here interested in running them through a port dropping gizmo.

    The bottom line is that customers have no idea what's running on their computer -- even some that are in the know.

    Imho, linux on a mac isn't "switching to a mac." It's just a prettier box for your linux machine.

    Sorry to say, I think it is you who did not read the readme...

    I'm talking about clamd which "due to license issues ... does not support RAR 3.0 archives." The README clearly states that it "uses UniquE RAR File Library by Christian Scheurer and Johannes Winkelmann (RAR 2.0 support only)." Sadly, there is no mention of any other libraries you can download.

    Lastly, the UniquE RAR library faq states, "RAR3 support is not scheduled" because "it would imply problems with the GPL license."

    However, if you aren't living in a fantasy world, I would appreciate links to the library you mentioned. Kthx.

    I was shocked to discover this is a problem in clamav's clamd, since it only uses the built in rar lib citing license restrictions.

    That made me kinda mad. The built in lib does rar up to 2.0, but won't look in 3.0s. What good is clamav with such a glaring hole in it?

    Yeah, I could use the command line scanner with arcane options to use the unrar app, but that won't help my 5,000 email subscribers. So I'm bag to suggesting they use something like norton... (which technicall I never stopped recommending for obvious reasons).

    Well, I like the fansub versions of the Hikaru No Go manga a great deal better than the western wash crap they're selling at barnes and noble...

    I think fansubs are here to stay. I'd much rather purchase the fansub translated Hikaru No Go anime than the westernwash they're likely to come out with in the near future. It'll be gross.

    Fortunately, I already have them all on my xbox.

    Your linked article does state that you can't transmit information faster than light because you cannot affect the state of the particle...

    However, a quantum repeater is different. And it is something that they'll create at some point. No new information is created, it's just transmitted... I guess...

    Though, I'm getting all my information from the sciam article I read a month ago, which was in layman's terms and I don't remember it very clearly anyway.

    However, I'm quite certian that if people smarter than me think they can make it... then they can.

    Personally, I have no interest in combining the two terms. The only people that would want to are the people that don't see the value of free(dom) software.

    If you sign away enough of yourself on NDAs and other agreements, even the Microsoft Windows sources will be open to you... but that doesn't make it free. Hell, you probably can't even tell your friends what you saw.

    For my part, I could care less if the software is open, but I do care if there's some dipshit company that's restricting the use of the technology.

    department of labor says it's $455 a week... he makes more than that I'm sure. Perhaps it's only wishful thinking.
