>When is the last time a NewsAlert went out based on the words of Michael Dell or Bill Gates?
Well as this is an event by Apple that could seriously affect those two, it is rather important, isn't it? This isn't just an new 8GB nano we are talking about here!
For anyone interested, do a google on Terahertz Imaging.
Once the transmission technology comes down in price it's going to be great for the 'metal detecting' hobbyists. No more digging up rubbish. You'll be able to see the object. This is one technology that I cant wait for!
Unlikely with Flash memory as your storage medium.
Although flash is non-volatile (it maintains its data when the supply to it has been removed, ) flash has a very finite number of times that you can write to it. Although lifetimes of 1,000,000 write and more are common now, that is still not enough for flash to replace main volatile memory. And of course the write time, although good compared to a harddisk, is very poor compared to RAM.
I totally agree with your sentiments though. Think of the power consumption we would save! SETI wouldn't like it though...
>The solution is definately more involved than the problem.
I'd love to say "amen to that". I hate frameworks.
But the thing is, there are often classes of problems to which these things apply. It's just that you and I dont have them. A framework is a tool; use it when it suits.
I write for a magazine, 2000 words per article each month. I wish I had this guys skill at writing absolutely nothing in 976 words. It would save me days each month
>I'm surprised something like this has never been built before purely for educational purposes
Yes it's odd isn't it? Internal combustion engines, yes. Harddrives and chips? Nah. How do these devices get explained at school then? Maybe someone in school could enlighten us. In my day the audio cassette was the storage medium for PC software.
Many a happy lunch break spend disecting those all over the school yard!
>I can't believe someone rated you "3 interesting" for a crap post like that.
Maybe it's because I expressed a sentiment felt by others, who maybe didn't want to express it publically here because of the personal insults that would result.
>> When I found the C language, I stopped looking. Ah well. > Too bad.
I guess I should have qualified my comment, really. I suppose in part it comes down to what problems one is trying to solve. I'm an embedded designer, working on small systems. Assembly and C turned out to be the right tools for the job. So I guess I should really have qualified my rant with "in my line of work".
I still think C++ was invented as a joke. I mean, fancy allowing standard operators to be overloaded. And reference variables? I now have to carefully examine very function prototype when I need to know if a function call might have side effects.
And now garbage collection? That just a feature to fix poorly written code.
When I found the C language, I stopped looking. Ah well.
It seems that our government is preparing to build reactors again, as the current batch are reaching end of life.
I feel rather ashamed to be in the generation that saw what a f**king mess we made of things, and then decided to go do some more. God help the next generation.
I completely agree it's not mine to copy, but it will become mine pretty damned quickly if I scratch it. And I bet I would be charged the full game price as a replacement.
Maybe the rental company should have backups. Kind of makes me nervous about renting games now.
I agree. Although other cities, like Dublin in Ireland, make london look clean. I've lived in both and am glad to be out of both.
I think the capsule idea is cool, and it's true that after a 12 hour flight it's nice to bed down for a few hours before heading into work. Having said that, most airport lounges that I have used had showers which did the trick for no cost. Great if you travel business class. If not, $70 would be worth it.
Thats going to cost you a few Karma points.
:o)
Will chat to you again when you get out of the time-out corner
>Earth will NOT be here forever and any step
Humm... If we had to move I'd rather to somewhere more hospitable than Earth, rather than less.
The alternative of course would be to send the worst polluters to the moon, thus delay the date when the rest of us need to move off!
>"The gun is good. The penis is evil. Go forth... and kill!"
:o)
Wow! I missed that line!
aired last night: Hyperspace.
Trying to be a new 'Red Dwarf'.
Painfully funny, and very geeky.
After accidentlly re-booting the ship and setting it back to defaults, they cut to a guy trying to get into the toilet
"Please enter the 3rd, 5th, and 87th letters of your password" says the door. Nice.
Rather english though, probably wont travel well.

Probably what you eat is as important as your setup.

Also, my partner recommends these glasses:
http://www.jdharris.co.uk/pinhole-glasses/pinhole
They look a bit odd, somewhat like Zaphod Beeblebroxs peril sensitive glasses, but they do work well.
I dont need them. Been programming since the 70's, 12 hours a day, perfect eyesight. Lost most my hair though
opps your right, sorry.
neat idea. I can install coloured leds at the back of my monitor - as I get angry and frustrated for example, it emits a red glow.
:o)
So thats just red leds then
I rather like the idea. I'd know when not to talk to co-workers...
>launches from mexico, which would render these guidelines pretty much useless.
:o)
Your grasp of geography, or at least the facts, is as poor as mine..
But you'r spot on. As with flight, FAA is the States only. The JAA is global, so I guess it's their job to draw up world guidelines.
Man, thats a can of worms

Nothing to see here, move on.

:o)
Yea, very busy
>but it featured girls' undergarments as the objects
:o)
yep, thats the Japanese version
Humm.. is it possible the game was called katayori? Something to do with coloured shells, matching the edges up?

It's only a tool, not a religion.

Margins on hardware are *thin*. There is no reason why Google would want to enter that market. OS maybe, turn-key systems? Nah.

Just make a copy of it first, and play the copy inste... ah. silly me.
