And before you ask: i run OpenBSD, Slackware, BeOS, OSX, and Windows on my machines at home.
i mean, i don't know shit about telco's or the billing or the overhead or the leases paid by providers (not telcos...lame-ass, reselling providers) or all the government imposed regulations, but i still gotta ask:
how much do you think it costs to pay all the guys (bank) in all the trucks (bank) that are wearing hard-hats at 3 am fixing the broken lines (bank) on a stormy Friday night?
how much do you think it costs to buy/dev the switches, routers, lines, signaling stations, poles, trenches, operators, servers, trunks, concentrators, and oh, don't forget the labs that are dev'ing (in house or contracted) the next level of hardware (bank)...?
Like i said, i don't know shit, but i gotta ask: this shit isn't free for the Bell's right? Bottom line: somebody has to ante up for this. Sorry if it's us, but we ante for roads and a military don't we?
All i'm sayin is that when my basic service bill is $220 instead of $20 - i'll be concerned. Sure there's shitty service at times, but that's individuals fucking up, not a flaw in the whole system.
