When I was starting out I used Dreamweaver all the time. It was fine for small sites that didn't need too many updates. It also taught me the basics of html once I learned to press the view source button a few times.
The templates came in very handy when I moved onto doing larger static sites. They made keeping a consistent look and feel easy, especially when combined with CSS. As they do not need any server side technology they can be very useful.
But nothing will compete in the long run with server side technologies. It doesn't matter which one as they all do essentially the same job. But there is a huge learning curve that many people do not want to try to overcome. (I can remeber telling my PHB that he could use Dreamweaver like Word, I spent a lot of time cleaning up after him though)
Dreamwever and even Front Page and the like have been invaulable in getting large numbers of people creating their own web based material and probably have a far higher impact in this area than they are given credit for by some professional developers. An alternative that is open source and *good* would be a killer app for linux. Its all very well saying "learn to do it properly and use vi to write your code" for the average user the experience of seeing a web page being generated is something akin to magical and they would run a mile from a text editor.
This looks pretty cool to me. I was thinking about knocking something together to do something simillar but this seems to make life easier and definately looks better
Why cant you just go and legitimately buy a whole series of off the shelf companies?
Then you get a totally legit and above board merchant account to run your stolen cards through.
Here in the uk you can see ads for pre-created legitimate shell companies that you can buy cheaply and rename to cut out the hassle and legal niceities of creating a limited company from scratch.
If game companies were worried about cheaters reducing sales why do 99.999% of all games have cheat codes built into them? The DCMA doesnt come into it when you can type "god" and "give all"
Personally I think that cheating drive up sales of single player games. The sooner I complete a game the sooner I want to buy a new one so if I cheat to complete a game I will be putting my hand in my pocket quicker than I normally would. I am sure I am not alone here.
When I was at uni in Plymouth there was (and still is) a very complex cross junction right outside the university. It appeared that it was entirely controlled by the push buttons for pedestrians presumably due to the high volume of pedestrians crossing the junction to get to uni. This was dispite the main route through the junction being what we brits quaintly call a dual carrageway (two lanes in each direction for the rest of you) and one of the main routes into the city center.
The really fun came if you were around the junction when traffic was really quiet. You would regulary see people jump out of their cars when they had been stuck on the main route at a red light, rush across the road, press one of the buttons to allow pedestrians to cross one of the side routes and rush back to their car knowing that by the time they got back the lights would have changed to let them drive off!

How to convert your mini one to a mini cooper...
Get a new chip! Here in the UK a Mini one is 3000 pounds less than a Mini Cooper. A Mini Cooper ECU chip is 300 pounds.
Its not rocket science in terms of money but the tricky part is finding someone to fit it and voiding your warranty.
If you want to go crazy fit an nice uprated supercharger as well why dont you....
I took my Computing and IT degree through the OU graduating in 2001 after 4 years of study.
During this time the OU was radically restructuring the way it taught its classes to take advantage of the Net.
My first years class was basically paper based with the odd tv program and radio program thrown in. The class met once every fortnight for tutorials. (though on one occasion I was the only student that showed up) Most students in my class didnt have email addresses even.
My final class was supposed to be taught entirely on line. Memebers of the tutor group were not even supposed to meet face to face. All collaborative work was supposed to be done through the OU system or email.
Which was the best course? The first one. Our tutor really made an effort. You could ring him at home at odd times of day, I did get a one on one tutorial, he answered email within about an hour most of the time.
The tutor on the final course I took was worse than useless. Another student and myself who both had some prior knowledge of the material ended up functioning as tutors. By the end of the course he had given up all the functions of a tutor anyway. The drop out rate was 75%. For many on the course this was their first and last OU experience. At least he got fired when the remaining students complained.
Studying on line is hard work. You are very isolated for most of the time and it is very hard to remain motivated. A good tutor is vital. However many tutors seem to see this as a source of easy money. I have been encouraged work as an on line tutor for Learn Direct (another on line learning organisation in the uk) I was told "its easy, you just answer a few emails a week, no real work involved"
Sometimes there is no substitute for face to face stuff.
This issue scares me so much. It has prompted me to write to my MP for the first time in years. Just the thought of agencies like the post office snooping my on line life scares me.
Take it to the limit..... u receive a letter from the post office saying "we see u regulary email these people [list follows] wouldnt it be so much more personal if you wrote them a letter?"
Crazy? they way things are going I wouldnt bet against it.
in the FA O'reilly claim firefox accounts of 22% of the market... I just whish this were so.

well there is an obvious solution... dont hibernate to disk! That will be $500 for tech support fees
Let me guess another potential revenue stream for MS?

I tested it a couple of dozen times and sent the WinXP error reports of to Microsfot like any good windows user would...
That someone in Iraq is using Open Source software right now.
If you live in a country thats economically crippled free as in price sofware must seem like a good deal.
