As of now hard drives life sucks horribly. At least my DVD's don't crash and take all the data with them like my last 3 Fujitsu, last 2 Western Digital, and last 4 Seagate drives.
You mean like how the DVDs scratch? Or the foil surface on the back starts peeling off?
If you're eating that many hard disks, you might want to invest in a better power supply and a few fans in strategic places.
-1 Bad Analogy
Try comparing adding a one-second delay to something you do less frequently than push down a key on your keyboard. I don't know about you, but I don't turn on the lights 2400+ times an hour.
Hell, even the (non-compact) fluorescent bulbs in the ceiling of the office in which I am sitting take about a second to turn on. But you don't hear me bitching about it. (At least they're not the ones that throw the harsh orange light that gives me a headache).
In reaction to the Seigenthaler ruckus, *every* change to wikipedia has been magnified a hundredfold, and seen as the spectre of doom, etc, etc. It wouldn't surprise me if there were news sites overreacting to trivial changes in the CSS....
That's another symptom of "Everything that the Nazis liked or used is now evil". E.g Swastikas (used by Buddhists, and many other cultures for thousands of years before the Third Reich came along), composer Wagner ("Ride of the Valkyries" guy), and to a lesser extent Nietzsche's works.
So the question remains: Why should I waste tens of hours on writing and debugging something in C to do what can be coded in a few minutes with perl, and that will probably only be used once or twice?
There are some movies I considered "must be seen" like the LOTR sequels, but besides Episode III whre some ppl said it would be "good" I did not see many movies during the last years.
Actually, I went to see Ep3 in theatres, based on positive reviews that came from several friends who downloaded pirated pre-releases.
What did I get in return for my $10? Well, some of the movie was worthwhile (yoda kicks ass) but the majority of the movie was *crap*.
Had it been a better movie (like, say, the original movies) people may have seen it several times. As it is, only the blind fanatic fanbois went to see it more than once.
What about the ones which lack the proper 'compact disc' logo, and have 'copy controlled' on them? That's the reason I won't buy CDs from most of the music companies.
Because, of course, a post that happens to compare Linux to Windows has to be anti-microsoft, instead of being true.
Right now I'm typing this on a laptop that dual-boots XP and linux. The raw XP install takes up a gig. And what utilities does that give you? notepad, and...um... regedit.... and scandisk.
a barebones install of ubuntu consumes less than 100 megs of space, and lets you put a whole lot more utilities in the rest of that 900 megs.
Not only that, but after you record it and embed it in the document, the person you send it to can take a picture of it on the screen with a digital camera, print that, scan it back in, and *then* append the reply inside a word document attached to it.
It's people like you that make others think something like this when they hear 'feminist'. Having been programming in C since before I was born, you should understand it fairly clearly:

Wrong, Mr Potatamoto
Nah. The spyware and virii will just take the liberty of installing themselves into any local windows images
Don't forget about the $500 of controller modules you'll need to buy in order to play more than one game with the Revolution....
I'd consider it the text equivalent of taking all of the common words out of a document, and indexing the res... oh,wait...
So will they be airbrushing him out of photos now too?
Is that how much they hate him?
I bet your brain went *wonk* when you realized that tolerant societies are intolerant of intolerance, right?
And now it's just the mac fanboys that leave a bad taste in people's mouths

What if you don't know the key to said encrypted stuff?
Will they torture you until you're dead 'just to make sure'?
Hint: we're not mind-readers.
There's a dragon in my garage. Can you prove it exists?

And the buddhists shouldn't use swastikas. Right.
the headline below this is "Why do people switch to Linux?"
:make

You forgot the telemarketers

#ifdef FEMINISM#define HYSTERICAL

Not so much precise as overbroad, I'm afraid.
