MNG is almost dead. No, I'm not trolling. Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla Thunderbird do no longer support MNG files. Look here for details. MNG (and JNG) is not even a W3C recommendation.
Necessary design changes are going to break things.
Believe it or not, but MS already did that with Windows Server 2003 (at least partially). That's the reason why the backward compatibility of Win2003 is quite bad by Windows standards. New Windows versions usually have a backward compatibility of >90% for normal applications. A MS guy said a while ago that "only" ~60% of WinNT4 apps will still run on Win2003.
I made some experiments and this bug is not that serious, if you use IE correctly. IE has a feature, Mozilla/Firebird and Opera sadly don't have: IE can run in multiple processes. If you open a new window by clicking IExplore.exe instead of pressing Ctrl-N, the new window runs in a seperate process. If you visit that crash page, only the one IE process crashes while the other processes stay unaffected (at least on NT based systems).
OTOH if a page makes Mozilla crash, the whole app suite goes down. The process seperation with Firebird and Thunderbird is a step into the right direction, but different Firebird windows do still run in a single thread. I hope those kind of crashes send a message to all app developers (*cough*OpenOffice.org*cough*), to use multiple processes if possible (at least optional, because that would use more RAM).
Does anybody know what will happen with the other components from the Mozilla Suite? I haven't seen them mentioned. Venkman (JavaScript Debugger) will propably be an extension to Firebird Browser, but what about the remaining components like Composer, ChatZilla etc? I doubt that Composer will be an addon to Firebird or Thunderbird. That wouln't make any sense.
I'm sorry, but I don't understand what's the f*cking deal is. Mozilla.org announced in the new roadmap that the whole Mozilla suite will be Using Phoenix/Firebird/... and Minotaur/Thunderbird/... as the base for future development. Why doesn't Mozilla.org just rename Phoenix to Mozilla Browser NG and Minotaur to Mozilla Mail NG (NG = Next Generation) or something? That would IMHO stop confusion.
OK, the Xbox is the only console that gets Doom3. Who cares? IMHO the past titles from id Software (Q2 and Q3) were pretty disappointing compared to Doom1 and Quake1. UnrealTournament and CounterStrike offer greater multiplayer fun. And Half-Life is IMO still the best ego shooter on PC hardware for single player. And if you don't only look on PC hardware, you'll find the best single player ego shooter [1] of all times on console: Metroid Prime for GameCube.
([1] Metroid Prime is no "classical" ego shooter, it's a 1st person action adventure)
Check out Media Player Classic or jetAudio. Both player are able to handle all DirectShow codecs (incl DivX) as well as RealMedia, QuickTime, and also DVDs. jetAudio installs the RealMedia codecs, but no QuickTime codecs. Media Player Classic installs no codecs at all (that's why it's so small).
BeOS? Dead. (the open source clones/alternatives are far from ready)
Ever heard of Zeta? No? Zeta is (will be) basicly BeOS 6. It's licensed and not far from ready - it's almost ready.
Windows? Even 2000 and XP aren't nearly as stable as Unix and are completely non-portable.
Completely non-portable? Do you live behind a rock? The NT line of Windows IS portable. Ports to other architectures may not be profitable, but are possible. WinNT4 was available for x86, PPC and Alpha. There's a port of Win2k for Alpha, that was never for sell to the public, but it does exist. There's Windows for the Itanium called Win 64Bit LE. It's something in-between Win2k Server and Win 2003 Server. Win 2003 Server is also available for Itanium (you can download the RCs from microsoft.com for free).
"The technology will be integrated into the Windows code"
Maybe also in consumer Windows? VPC + MS DOS is a nice combination for old DOS games. I hope MS considers this. Too bad MS didn't buy Connectix a few years ago.... the world may didn't have to suffer from WinME....

Once we will have a fully functionnal Darwin binary compatibility on NetBSD/powerpc
(if that happens some day), we will just have to grab MacOS X libraries to run
any MacOS X program
This means, NetBSD might have the original OS X GUI (including overhead and eye candy effects ^_^)
in the future.
Making GNUstep binary compatibe with Quartz
should be the solution you're looking for (in that case, it would also work
with the original Darwin).
OS X/Darwin is entirely optimized for ppc
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but Mac OS X 10.3 Panther will not be a 64-bit OS (here's a more detailed article).
So much for ''entirely optimized for PPC''.
ppc Linux is a port from something else
But Linux already runs natively on 64Bit hardware. So do AIX, NetBSD, and other operating systems (even Windows), but not Mac OS X.
Sadly this is not funny, it's true. There's the new Copyright Directive in the European Union and the USA is ''exporting'' the DMCA to other countries like Singapore.
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but there's a DMCA like law in Austria. Since July 1st to be exact.
i l&id=157846&tmp=64022 i l&id=165149&tmp=65605
Every country in the EU needs to pass a simmilar law.
Here are two links about the new copyright law in Austria (in German):

because there was some copyright problem with Pheonix (taken by someone else, don't remember whom though).
It's Phoenix Technologies. They do also offer an embedded web browser.
But what does a German Law have anything to do whatsover with MY Rights Online?
You people do realize not everybody in this world has the same rights, right?

No. It's a German page. No DMCA in Germany (yet).

And communism doesn't suck, it's just all the implementations!
This isn't "Funny". It's "Insightful".
Communism doesn't suck. I just don't know any country that ever had real communism or socialism.
Dictatorship with communist slogans isn't communism or socialism - it's stalinism.
OMG! Kartoffelkanone Desktop Environment.....
it starts to make sense to me now.
