  1. Re:I can believe it. on Jack Thompson Rescinds Offer · · Score: 1

    Bingo.

The point of satire is to present an argument that is along the same vein of your opponent's beliefs, but so ludicrous that it exposes the folly of your enemy's position. What Thompson did wasn't satirical to the video game industry at all, he simply attempted to "call out" the industry with the same rhetoric he's been using all along. He assumed no one would take him up on the offer, and thus he would come out on top and could show that the video game industry was afraid to victimize itself, because they were scared they'd train their own murderers. It's a ludicrous argument, yes, but it's one he's been presenting for years. If he managed to satirize anyone, it was only himself. The man simply isn't very clever.

Sorry, but Bungie lost the rights to the Myth franchise to Take 2 when they were bought by Microsoft, and good luck getting those guys to do anything worthwhile. View Myth III for evidence.

Bungie did this with the Myth series (which had highly competitive online play) by implementing "rolling resets" whereby three of the twelve or so game types were reset to zero every month. It was a great system, people couldn't simply whore points in one game type for any great span of time, and players who became inactive lost all their points in a set amount of time. It also allowed to players who were best at the game to rise to the top, instead of just those who were best at one game-type.

I'll give it to you that the PSP will likely capture a larger market share than the DS based on the popularity of the PSX/PS2, but to say that Sony "will always have the better franchises" is lunacy. Franchises like what? GTA (out now for PC and XBox!)? Final Fantasy (hasn't been Sony exclusive for some time)? ...Crash Bandicoot?

Aparently most of the games in the menu are fakes too, from what others are saying.

I personally am not a big fan of the pressure sensing buttons on the PS2 controller, it's a royal pain in the ass to push hard on them. As much as I hate the Game Cube controller, the analog shoulder buttons on them are a thing of beauty, even surpassing the excellent triggers on the Dreamcast controller IMHO.

The PS2 is FULLY backwards compatible with the PS1, controllers and memory cards included. This isn't something Sony kept under wraps, it was common knowledge when the PS2 was released.

Also, every button on the PS2 dual-shock controllers is digital (save the start and select buttons), whereas the only digial component of the PS1 dual-shock controllers is the control sticks.

It's worse than just one or two Nintendo first-party games. From the ones of these I've seen they appear to be running an emulator (the menu system looks nearly identical to NesterDC) with a nearly full library of NES titles. The ones in my local mall were nearly constantly hooked into a TV with Contra loaded into them, but sometimes Castlevania or other third-party titles.

There was one of these kiosks in my local mall as of Saturday night, everytime I walked past it I wondered how long it was going to take them to be sued into submission.

If Nintendo would make something like this, only with higher quality parts (the controllers on these things felt horrible and were obviously poorly made) I'm hard pressed to believe they wouldn't sell extremely well given the right price point. Then again, they're able to sell single games for twenty bucks apiece for the GBA...

Yes, and 10, and 11, and soon to be 12...

Firstly, Advent Children is a film, not a game. Secondly, the Final Fantasy series has no continuity; FF2 was sequal of FF, FF3 is not a sequal of FF2, etc. (with the exception of FFX-2, a direct sequal to FF10). This movie takes place after the events in FF7, but is in no way tied to the other games.
