  1. Re:So, what are the players to do? on Only NFL Game This Year Gets Lukewarm Response · · Score: 1

What I want to know is when do we see a football game that's designed to take advantage of EA's monopoly? The opportunity is right there waiting for someone to jump on it. Since you can't have "NFL" football game you don't have to pay the NFL for rights to their teams, stadiums, logo, players, and other assorted bullshit that I'm sure they're making EA pay through the nose for. You also don't have to make a game that complies with anything the NFL insists on. Screw them, it's not an "NFL" game is it? What you do have to make is a better football game. It doesn't look too terribly hard when you take the Madden series into consideration. Design a better game and you're most of the way there. The final thing you absolutely MUST do is make it easy as a motherfucker to mod. Ship that thing with a everything you need to make that any kind of football game the people playing it want it to be and I swear the mod community will turn it into a half dozen different kinds of NFL football before EA can even decide who to sue. You'll have guys playing modern NFL leagues, Throwback leagues, USFL football, WFL football, and All Star leagues in no time complete with stadiums that will rival anything that's in Madden.

The price of the console is fine, exceptional even considering what you get. That's to be expected since they routinely sell these machines at a loss to get them in the hands of the game buying public.

$60 a pop for the games is insane though. I was raised on video games and I love video games but I'll be damned if I'm ever going to give anyone $60 for a game.

I still think the "optimum price" for a new game should be around $39. Anything more than that turns the game into an instant "I'll look at it again when it gets marked down, or I'll buy it used later on"

Then he'll make a couple of films that suck even more than the prequels.

Finally he'll get to working on some kind of new version of the first 6 episodes and "discover" some new cool technology that he wants to play with and then just like that you'll get the headline.

I'm not saying that those two situations will remain static. Things change. Right now though I'm sure that's what they're either reading or being told and it's getting through here and there. While of course that is true I feel it's important to point out that trying to get better terms from the Russians when the country you're (primarily) at war with is waiting to hear those special words "unconditional surrender" doesn't really count as "trying to surrender".

In so far as the Pacific theater was concerned there were two main combatants. The United States and Japan. Other nations took part but the Russians at that time were very late to the show and played almost no part in the conflict. Nice land grab there at the end of course but aside from that they were a non-factor and Japan knew it. Japan trying to surrender to the Russians would be like Germany trying to surrender to Argentina or Honduras instead of the USSR, Britain, and the USA in hopes of getting a better deal.

Lucas said he wanted to "create myth" but do you really take him at his word? I for one don't. Lucas wanted to create money and that's exactly what he did.

I too was a child and my dreams were pervaded with heros and adventures in much the same way you describe. You would be amazed (or maybe not) at how many times the crew of the Enterprise helped the Justice League solve mysteries when my MEGO's got together. Later my Star Wars figures often rode around in my Eagle lander from Space 1999 and got help fighting the Empire from my Buck Rogers figures/vehicles. No lawsuit or power in the universe could prevent my child-self from building upon those works with whatever was at hand. That's why you miss the point.

You're an adult now, not a child. You need to create your own myths and quit blindly following the ones Lucas sells you because you have no right to his outside of your own mind. That's the way it's supposed to be. Create something new and give it away if you want to make new myths everyone can play with.

Lucas doesn't make myths, he makes money. It's about money, not your childhood.
