Simple, hydrogen molecules in explosives give off distinct hydrogen emmision signatures, hydrogen concentration loss has a very specific profile when used in combination with nitrogen in explosives. This is very quantifiable. It is also why older explosives became unstable over time. The loss of hydrogen molecules over time caused decay separation of the explosive component and the buffer. Some explosives even give off amonia, and some are made with it, Amex for example, the stuff used by Timothy McVie. If better explosive detection devices can come from this tech great! Then there is one more hurdle for social disfunctional maniacs to overcome.
Sometimes the out of the box win computers are one hell of a lot cheaper than building a comparable system yourself. Problem comes when you find a really wierd piece of hardware in the config that has not had a driver update since kernel 2.2 then you need to be a little bit of a guru to get things going. This happens alot with cheap hardware that never gets redesigned and is brought out of hiding by outfits like Gateway because they have tons of old hardware kicking around from the days before the.net disaster.
Which is what happens with MS OEM most of the time. The trick is to buy from an oem distributor that still uses good quality hardware, most of which is Linux supported. The cheaper OEM stuff is almost always the problem. Companies like Gateway can be a real pain in the arse. HP almost always will be supported. Needless to say you can run a Dell right out of the box. So getting to know your hardware specs before you install windows can also be a problem. Quite often the guy selling it does not have a clue he just says it only works with Windows then go gets his minimum wage pay check. And displays flashes his A+ ticket at you.
Oh Lord wont you carry me back I'm just out stealin' his cad......
The interior dept of the US has been screwing Native North Americans for a long time, what makes you think they will change now! If the Interior Dept dosn't finish the job with resevations and keep em stupid tactics maybe Microsofts software will.
// We can all appreciate the difficulties of real programming
#exclude (windowsusers.h)
#exclude (visualstudio.h)

/* It is a different story all together, you had better know what the hell you are doing! Otherwise you will screw up real fast and not have a friggin' clue as to how*\
// So essentially good dummies books are a necessity for the majority
Flamebait? whaa you guys are taking yourselves a little too seriously. I was making a joke about a friggin' abucus. I would love to see the Chinese kick the shit out of Intel, in the Oriental market. At least you can bet they will get their math right! I am almost willing to bet that they will come out with a dirt cheap 64 bit bus on a board first! IBM, MS and INTEL have all deliberately held this back.
Tiny alien math profs like Intels Pentiums because they make them laugh.
The standard is about to be shoved down our throat by the RIAA so don't blame the coders at MS, the management at MS is smart enough not to fight city hall on this one. With the INTEL/Fritz chips the effect will be the stopping of music mp3, software, word.doc, e-mail etc, etc... piracy all together. MS knows this so they are setting up their software to be the only ball game around. That is why they consider Linux the number two threat to the company after the economy. If Linux will work with the fritz by just by passing the MS key locked security functions, as Intel hopes, then the home market for MS will dry up and the business market will be all MS will have! Strange prediction but it could happen! It will become hard for MS to sell software that can be castrated over the internet to the public. Apple and Linux will start to jump in both the server and the home market.
Most Americans treat and think of the (INDIANS), Chinese etc the same way they did Sitting Bull. Americans can be the most ignorant asses on earth when they get on a their horse that runs on lame, ignorant semi-patriotic bullshit. All men are created equal...except...Natives...etc, etc what a pile of bullshit. Either we are created equal or not, it is unequivocal. And I am a Canadian! Money in Hindu society is treated much differently than here. Property is also a different concept. The same as our differences in other social systems, our social system is built upon good ideas but like all good ideas they can get perverted by greed. Indian society and most other human societies are no different.
-1 off topic I need the mod down I am starting to grow a halo!
Was it not during the latter Spanish dark age that when the Catholic Church began banning books the decline in the Spanish Rennaisance began? Did they not begin to ban non church sponsored literature, or have a list of approved literature. This caused a general decline in Spanish science, literature, etc until Cervantes, by which time the rest of Europe was starting to develope, and surpass Spain. So the technique of printing had profound social consequences when controlled.
The same thing applies to our modern IT if we alow a monopoly to control the internet and communication software then we run the risk of it being censored. New inexpensive communication innovations will be supressed. Take the monopoly of Adobe on the idea of anti-aliased type fonts, this serves to keep the cost of software to create fonts up. And causes countries like China to pirate tech. Linux on their own type face font tech is what is happening as rightly it should. There is no huge market for MS/INTEL/ADOBE technology in China because few of us had the foresite to innovate for the rest of the world.
The innovations in communication that are really fascinating are language translation data base queiry software models. Babel fish is a start but there is one hell of a long way to go. That is what the brilliant young minds of today should work on. For instance better translations to get around the sense that one is being commanded in the German language not requested, the word please is often implied in the syntax but not necessary. This causes a huge amount of missunderstanding, and friction with our polite English sentiments. Mandarin Chinese and other eastern languages will be an incredible challenge but that is what it is all about! Separating the software into regional dialect is possible but will take international co-operation and like a project Gutenberg cannot be exclusive. So the fact that Gutenberg was an early rennaisance capitolist should come as no supprise. Maybe Bill and todays other shake and bake instant billionaires will open their wallet like Andrew Carnaige did, we can only hope.
All I could make out was a bunch of guys in funny hats running up and down lines of bars moving what looked like round wooden balls. Looked funny as the groups of balls then were counted by an old man in a RedHat, who sent the results to output, after he checked the results against the government blocking code base.
There are no bugs in MS software their CE software is like a miniature supercomputer. Their products are so supperior, oh wait I need to reboot. Can anybody tell me when my penis enlargement kit will arrive........... OH shit the RIAA is at the door I'll see you guys tomarrow, maybe......Linux on a PDA how usless unless I can download Brittany Spears videos.........
Come on you guys this my processor is hotter than your processor stuff is rediculous. When will they bring out a CE with 1 gig power and 512 ram don't worry CE will still use it like a doggy hump rather than an OS. The future of mini computers is in great small foot print software. To this end I think Linux will eventually win because there are more and more programmers writing for linux that are getting very good at pared down assembly routines. MS software is just getting more bloated and is more and more turning into an overwritten slug, thats why you need a 400 mhz with 64 meg to run CE. Palm has always rocked because it does alot more with less code. Linux needs to keep on that track also.
But the Fritz chip that Intel is about to unleash with MS doesn't? The US is one small step away from an information monopoly, you guys just won't admit it. Yes China is bad however what is happening to Americans is just as bad. The RIAA will be at door soon, then it will be Microsofts turn! MS is delighted that the Chinese now will not be pirating Office. However if we keep being so stupid about our High Tech sector they may just eat our lunch the same way MS ate IBMs.
The problem is anyone that is interested in audio quality at all knows that the computer and MP3s, are not hifi. For the file swapping younger generation, that is half deaf it is fine. A better distro system would be if artists made high grade 24/96 files available to outlets that could burn cd quality on demand. The same thing goes for the future of sheet music.
Stocking thousands of cds in a so called music store is something that can go! There is no reason why a mixed cd or multi artist, or songs on demand business model that could replace the recording industry as we know it couldn't work. This could also make artists more money in the long run because distro problems are the main reason why titles go out of print! Let the public swap all the MP3s they want then the real musicians and great artists will be all that is left.
Bsd must be dead. Morse code is dead do you hear me...---... or if you really try -.-. --.- is pretty lame too? see if it works. It works, morse is just lonely and pining the fjords, its not dead.
On a serious note if morse could be encoded and decoded by an interface like teXt or saved as a file format, the possibilities are interesting.
If a new seperator character could be used for a space then text only message file sizes would be very tiny indeed..=1 -=0 plus a separator could be the basis of very small file size with huge amounts of text. I should look into creating an ASCII triger based on this idea. The separator would need to be a simple new morse character for a space. The traditional morse rythym interpretation could not work as a file format.
There is no reason why a binary cannot work on every linux distro. Just make sure that if it is got an Xgui you use only the simple common libs. If you use a non standard libs just include them in your./configure, and use simple lib placement destination structure like/usr/local. When you distribute the binary just make sure you note any diffs for the different destinations of any libs that are you deps. And most important if a lib is not available to all distros then just #include the thing. This is linux not all the good libs are proprietary. Create good sensible informative readmes not a YOU ARE STUPID IDIOT IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO USE./configure --with, make and./(yourprogramnamehere) rant. Like some of the patronising crap I have seen. Do this and compatability will not be a problem. Do not use RPM! It is by no means a Linux standard and I have seen more software get hosed by RPM than any other installer sceme. Make is a linux standard as it is part of gcc. If you are not sure always include your dependancies, or atleast links to get them.
Obviously you have never played an acoustic instrument. Calculating a great performers response to a melody is not something that is quantifiable. There are too many variables. Sure computers are good at generating a random response to a given situation but when you include all the possible variables involved in great music, no data base could hold all the possibilities. A great performer just grooves a response, this is the nature of an inborn musician. The computers calculated response will be too predictable to a discerning ear. Kind of like the cracking of a windows password from a transparent hash table...too friggin' easy. Virtual musicians will be fine as a simple muse but as music it will suck. Kenny G on steroids!
The MS genius is to make the business college OFFICE tools course a standard that small businesses insist on. They have done this by the CITRIX server partner pedaling MS NT for so long and their bullshit teaching accreditation system that has become the only standard for business intranet. By concentrating on small fish for years they have actually started to make ignorant MS cert. IT guys think their software can scale to internet server levels, and scientific application levels. You notice however the conspicuous lack of supercomputing tech with NT and its derivatives!
'When will this stuff finally be ironed out?' When interoperabily with MS tools is no longer a concern. And MS format standards are no longer a moving target. With the lock they have on lobby groups on capitol hill- never.
The point is that web content created by MS software will be able to block other browsers! Very relevent to.NET software capabilities. The browser wars will effectively be over use MS or you will not get good access to information and that information will be censorable buy the people who are given back doors. 1984 with an unashamed pretext of security.
The bad parts of the net can and are being stopped by other means. By keeping info open the bad guys will have no where to hide! Impliment this system and you give them a way to hide. Give back door access to the wrong people then we are one step away from having people come to your door to shut you up, rather than using the legal system. I call myself ratfynk because I am just another voice in the GNU wilderness that tells it like it is.
No certainly I would not. I am learning to compose for such things, my technique includes using mountain echo time delay calculated into fuge structure. My dream is to create a propane powered set of organ triggered horns, in combination with highly amplified real musicians at set distances. The microphone placements will be calculated to create diferent pieces of music at different spots. Even the audiance placement can be a part of the performance. I practice the pieces by using computer technology to test my harmonies, and any air pressure time calculations I need to make to modify note timing at different alttitudes. This is because sound travels at different speeds at different kp air pressure. "There is no such thing as an ugly sound only sounds that are used without context" Rimsky on Orchestration.
Spontanious Human Composition (jazz) vs Non Human Spontanious. Wow what a pile of digital diarrhea. Even the great classical musicians of our time have the ability groove, something which computer generated stuff just does not do, and cannot. The recordings of Glen Gould are more akin to music paintings by great musician. It will be cute if they can imitate the humming of Glen Gould.
There is no way that these guys will get the idea that the performance of music is still something that requires an interpretation. Something which you cannot quantify, and changes with each different performance of a great player. It depends on the players response to the current air pressure, sonic characteristics of a venue, temp of instrument, audience, the amount of rosin on bow at the time, the touch character of a certian piano. All the wonderfull things that the player has a skill to respond to. It especially depends on the ability of the performer to lead the audience and the wonderfull give and take that has been lost to recordings. Musicianship is not a product it is a real living breathing art that thank God cannot be programmed.
