  1. Re:Convenience vs. "privacy" on EFF Warns Not to Use Google Desktop · · Score: 0

Hey... if you want to read my e-mails be my guest, just make sure I get access to yours. The only thing wrong with traditional surveillance is the imbalence of power between the watchers and the watched. However, new technology is starting to correct this imbalance. Instead of fighting against the tide we should strive to make a completely transparent society. Currently only the rich, powerful and crooked have the ability to peek behind your veil of "privacy".... let's work to turn this situation around. Go Google!

  2. Re:Maybe the solution is no privacy on Surveillance Is on the Rise, Straining Carriers · · Score: 1

Don't you get it? The rich, powerful and well-connected already have the power to peer into your life and they always have. You don't have privacy, you just have the illusion of it. The only thing privacy laws do is to prevent us from spying on them. Better to get rid of these laws today because we can't win the privacy arms race....

  3. Re:Good News and Bad News on NASA Public-Affairs Appointee Resigns in Disgrace · · Score: -1, Offtopic

The increasing availability and ease of access of information is making it increasingly difficult to get away with lying.

This is why I hope privacy will become a dirty word in the future. The rich, well-connected and crooked have always been able to invade our privacy.... privacy laws only prevent us from spying on them. However, technology is finally starting to level the playing field. What we need to do is encourage their use and stop lobbying for things like strong encryption, which only gives the illusion of privacy. The strongest cipher is useless if a fly on the wall records your password as you type it. Such methods only encourage an arms race that we cannot win.

If you can find fulfillment outside of your work then consider yourself one lucky son of a bitch.

  5. Privacy is dead, join the fishbowl.... on Cell Tracking on the Rise · · Score: 5, Insightful

This wouldn't be such a bad thing if I could track the cell phones of the people who are tracking me. I really don't see what's so bad about letting my boss track me as long as I'm able to follow him around. It's the imbalance of power that's the main problem with typical surveillance. Want to track my movements with a camera? Go ahead.... but only if I get to know who's watching me and I have the ability to watch them back. An open and transparent society can make the world both safe and free. As it is now the powerful, well-connected and criminal can invade your privacy any time they want... privacy laws only prevent us from spying on them.

  15. Re: Wrong claim on Britain's First Jedi Member of Parliament · · Score: 1
It's entirely different to claim to believe in Jedi and to claim to BE a Jedi. According to the books I've read and the movies, a Jedi is capable of performing these actions. They all have their "talents" but to be a Jedi you have to be able to manipulate the force in some tangible and demonstrable way.

The water to wine thing doesn't hold. It's not a commonly held dogma (leaving backwoods ministers from crazyville out) that Christians are given controllable powers.

Not true.... the Bible clearly states that Christians have been endowed with remarkable powers:

Mar 16:17-18 "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover".

Luke 17:6 "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree 'be uprooted and planted in the sea' and it will obey you".

Of course.... I've never seen a Christian with such powers and according to the Bible you can't be a Christain without being able to witness in such a manner but that does not stop stupid people from calling themselves Christains all the time. If some British wanker wants to call himself a Jedi yets lacks the ability to control the Force, I say let him.

No, it cannot be done at todays day in age, unless you want a really bad computer. I mean, what do you want to do with the computer, just be able to turn it on? Cause thats all you will be able to do with 100 dollars. Even for word processing, you will need a decent size ram, hard drive, motherboard, ethernet port, case. That alone is already at 200 dollars.

You don't need decent size ram, a super large hard drive or an ethernet port for word processing.... unless by word processing you mean Microsoft Office. I remember a great word processor called MultiScribe from BeagleWorks for the Apple IIc that did everything that 95% of the public use Word for. Sure.... it was on a 5 1/4 disk that you had to flip over whenever you wanted to spell-check but it was fast and didn't have Clippy.
