Maybe they can do the same thing they did for the guy in Lord of the Rings who played Gollum. Have Shatner on the set acting with all the other characters and then CGI an image of how he looked back in the 60's on top. Like a virtual face lift.

The voter checks to make sure that the canidates they selected are recorded on the ballot and then feeds it into a reader. It's this machine that actually records the voter's vote.

With this sysetm even if all the computer records are erased the paper ballots can either be re-scanned or counted by hand.

People.... this can be a good thing. The rich, powerful or corrupt have always had the power to invade your privacy because its just an illusion and will alway be so. Privacy laws just protect the powerful from being watched by the masses.

Instead of fighting a lossing battle to stop this technology we need to ensure that it will be available to everyone and that the feeds will be open to the public. Put cameras on the streets, in the police stations and in government buildings. I don't mind being watched as long as I can watch everyone else. Imagine a world were everyone is equipped with their own personal cameras and recorders... with so many eyes spreading their light everywhere the world might become a more peaceful and happy place.

The problem with this is that some voters are stupid and will attempt to cross out, erase or otherwise make their ballot a complete mess. This opens up their ballot to interpretation. However, if we use a touch-screen voting machine to print out a ballot we eliminate that possibility.... as an added bonus these machine can be made accessible to the blind and physically challenged.

Mutually assured destruction (MAD) kept the Western world safe when the USSR had the manpower to overrun Europe it can work for Taiwan too. Maybe they can buy a few from Israel. It the fear that Israel has a shitload of nukes that keeps the local Arab nations from trying to push them into the sea (that and the fact they kicked their ass the last two times they tried but I'm sure the nukes help).

    • If the voter fucks up and fills in too many or not enough bubbles the voting machine spits it out with an error message and the voter gets a new ballot from the little old ladies who always seem to man these things.
