    Self driving cars are already here, we've had articles about google self driving car accidents, stop pretending it's a future thing that will need proper AI. Also, if they ever make the equivalent of the human brain it will take over a year before it can say its first word, who's going to put in the endless hours of talking to it like it's a baby to help it understand words? Even more of a problem for the prototypes, you wouldnt even know if it'll work after all that.

    Surely it's only not allowed when there was a law disallowing it? Which law was that? Are there other countries that would need a new law to allow it?

    I remember reading that back then as well, but a search suggests they never got beyond 70%, perhaps it depends on what energy you count as going in.
    if that 70% is actually of the total input then it could still be better than the result reported here.

    I don't know.. 9 years for a whole 22 miles, it'll take those television show people DAYS to cover more space if they ever get there.

    mars is nice dirt, you can dig in it etc, the icemoons are.. ice, so it's much harder to dig and there's nothing much to see on the surface, so they might just think it's too hard for now, even if you find a hole in the ice that just means you lost your robot :).

    Great move, so when your console dies (never happens, right?) you get to buy all your games again!
    I don't think microsoft would be that stupid, the press would be all over them after the first console had to be returned because some part died.

    Not really, when code needs to be optimised the resulting quick version can sometimes be unreadable, I just keep the old clear but slow version as the explaining comment in that case.

    I wish more people did that, I've found old code with comments like /*can't work because of <x> */ where <x> was no longer valid more than once, and the code often only needs a few small changes to then work :)
