    The voice mailbox was not to track callers, it was to record phone conversations on the phone lines. The billing for the voice mailbox was not supposed to show up at all, but after the software upgrade the owners of the phone lines started being charged for the voice mailboxes that were being used to record their phone conversations, even though they were not actually able to retrieve messages from the mailboxes.

    We fast-forward through the commercials, but we have also stopped to watch commercials that were interesting, sometimes rewinding and replaying them several times (just can't get enough of the New York commercial with the guys shouting go horse go). Advertisers just need to figure out how to grab one's attention at higher speeds...

    I wonder when rewind is gonna fall out of the vocabulary...

    that, as the youmaybenext website pointed out, they are not suing anyone in California, especially considering that large parts of California are considered by the American Tort Reform Association to be judicial hellholes because of their tendency to dole out huge plaintiffs' awards. Anyone have any speculation as to why they are not filing suits in CA?

    On the Latitudes we have here at work, it is F2 to get into setup, then go to the 5th page (Alt-P to move through pages), about 2/3 of the way down the page.

    Easiest way to do it...think of PayPal as a dear but irresponsible friend who never locks his doors and sometimes forgets where he has put things. Would you trust your dear friend to do much more than hold money longer than an hour or two to pass it on to someone else? Surely you wouldn't leave money with him for weeks or months on end, who knows where he would put it...

    I treat just about anything that isn't insured like that--I really hate getting ripped off...

    Qwest wireless now does a plan with peak time ending at 7 pm, or at least we were able to get our plans changed to that.

    Other than that, though, I wouldn't recommend getting Qwest wireless...

    Someday it probably WILL be required to let people without arms play in the NBA...after all, a golfer won the right to use a golf cart while playing professional golf instead of walking from hole to hole (yes, yes, I know this begs the question of whether golf is a sport).

    In Mississippi, it is legal for quadriplegics to hunt with a rifle. And here is a handicapped hunting resource guide written by a quadriplegic.

    It would be nice if web designers would try to not rope off another part of the world from people that already have limited access...but I am not much of a believer in government regulation so I would prefer it if web designers voluntarily put in the extra effort to make the world a more friendly place...

    Actually, my husband was diagnosed with penile cancer 7 years ago, so I know first-hand how men are treated. Obviously, I know at least one man who has been through a testicular screening exam, and no one, including myself, told him to just get over the emotional trauma. My husband got MUCH better health care and follow-up than I was given when I had an abnormal pap smear a year ago. Men's health care overall is much better - men generally don't get told they are just being hysterical when they go to the doctor for a problem, but women frequently hear just that.

    ..considering I know several people (including my OB/GYN, who has gotten calls to come deliver a baby while in a movie theatre) who turn their phone on vibrate during movies and leave the theater if it rings.

    NOTE to idiots who think that standing in the entrance of the theater is far enough away from the theater that no one can hear you: the sound from there is amplified! Go OUTSIDE the theatre! (not that anyone who reads /. would be that irresponsible...)

    I tried using trillian for a while at work but for some reason I couldn't get the auto-reconnect on disconnect to work (I am willing to admit that it coult be PEBKAC, I wasn't willing to take that much time to figure it out) and since it disconnected about every half hour, it wasn't worth the hassle to me.

    Um, ICQ was free long before AOLTimeWarner ever got their hands on it. ICQ has turned into ugly, ad-filled bloatware since it was bought out. I miss the streamlined design the interface had seven years ago.

    ...AFTER playing GTA3, to the point where I can't trust myself to drive because I get urges to run over pedestrians and pull cops out of their cars and shoot them...I'm not the only person who gets these urges, my normally very peaceful and spiritual acupuncturist got the same urges after playing it...but I CAN say it's never given me the urge to pick up a prostitute with the notion that I will get healthier...

    Course, I can't say that the violence is what is compelling me, since when I play SSX I get the urge to drive my Jeep up hills on the side of the highway and try to do flips...I just can't find where Jeep hid the buttons to cause the flips...

    I agree that using a download service that offers licensed downloads is the way to go (I personally prefer emusic.com), but I think a lot of people aren't going to know the difference right off the bat, or how to find the legitimate services. Heck, my great-uncle has had internet access for five years, surfs every day, but hasn't gotten the hang of how to find something using a search engine.

    Actually, that's what a lot of the broadband companies seem to imply in their ads...One local company has a shot with a teenager saying excitedly, "Now I can download even MORE of my favorite music!!!" If that's not implying, "Get broadband to increase your pirating efficiency", I don't know what is.....
