    One last push of the stock price before they start bailing out? Like you said, there's no way in hell they'd take on the government without any sort of proof of their case.

    Maybe this is the final push and then the shit will hit the fan, all over the people who are left holding the cards.

    Exactly. Now that the government is being threatened with this crap, they're gonna step in and tell SCO to either put up or shut up. And if they can't put up, they're gonna be in a whole world of hurt.

    Makes me wonder if the SCO lawyers didn't approve this and they're gonna smack McBride upside his empty head.

    Ok, first of all, I do agree... they work pretty well given the content.

    But, here's my problem. It involves my parents. Their email address gets lots of spam. They are on a dialup connection. The problem is, if I set them up with some kind of bayesian filtering (or even other spam filtering) they still must download all the spam in order for it to be filtered. Most people don't run their own mail servers and can't install a server-side filtering program. Mail hosts and ISPs don't want to filter email (in most cases) because of the fear of losing somebody's important email and being sued. It just seems like something else needs to be done, like options to filter mail more stringently (i.e. Bayesian filtering).

    That Anandtech article is sort of a followup to one they did in January between Vantec, Enermax, ThermalTake, Antec. They measured ripple and stuff like that too. It's nice to be able to see (at least in the case of the 4 tested) if quality has increased, decreased, or stayed the same.

    If I were watching tv with commercials tailored to my interests, then I might actually watch them instead of taking that time to, for example, get a drink or use the bathroom. Imagine watching a program and seeing a commercial for a sale at a local computer parts dealer, or some anime program showing on some channel... I'd be interested in that.

    If you have a bunch of points in a (roughly) circular orbit around a central object that are in the same plane (except pluto), they all will line up at some point in time (even pluto). It may take a million billion jillion years but it'll happen eventually.

    Get a few friends to run around a central object at different speeds using different distances from that central object and observe when they line up... Not only will it happen, but your friends might get dizzy and fall down, and you'll get a cheap laugh.

    Not a Mobile Pentium 4.. a Pentium-M. It was designed specifically for laptop and mobile systems. There's an article about it on Anandtech here.

    Get something with that Centrino technology or at the very least the Pentium-M (Banias (sp?) core). Those things are made for power consumption and a minimum of heat output. They kick ass. You might pay a little more but I'm sure they'd be able to take that kind of heat, at the very lowest throttling on the chip they go down to 600-something mhz. IBM makes a good one I'm told.

    I'll probably burn some karma (got plenty to spare) but mod this guy up. It is the truth, it is not theft as they (READ: RIAA) keep saying it is. Copyright infringement is different. Theft is a criminal act, and IIRC, copyright infringement is a civil matter... or else everybody accused of this crap would end up being tried in criminal court... but they aren't, are they? (rhetorical question)

    My old apartment complex at the college (I've since graduated and last weekend moved) had a firewall that showed everybody as from the same ip address... good luck to them trying to figure out why some of their top sharers were all from whatever ip we showed as (if there were anybody from there on that list).

    I'm sure some other places are similar too. The college itself recently changed their network to do a similar thing for all their dorm connections.

    Suck on that, RIAA!

    Actually I think you got steps 3 and 4 mixed up. Lots of people who do the kind of thing you have outlined in your "business plan" go after small companies first. Since they can't afford to fight it (in most cases) they just settle. Then they go after the big companies and use those other cases as precidence.

    Soon labels won't sign an artist until they are guarenteed a cut of the tour proceeds, merchandice, etc... stuff that the artists usually took home all the profits on. I guess they figured out that they can't make all that much money by suing college students.

    In high school I was looking through my chemistry book and came up with Alizarin Erythrosin. It's the name of 2 pH indicators. It just sounded so good together I've used it ever since.

    If your phone (the one you talk on) rings while I guess your laptop is plugged in to the wall, phone jack, and you're connected to a grounded prephrial (don't ask me what would qualify), you could get a hair-raising experience (positively shocking!)

    At least that's the way I understand it... the whole matter sounds awful confusing.
