lowering the prices would definately have a positive effect on CD sales..
I for one would love to go out and buy a bunch of old Floyd albums on CD however i really dont want to spend hundreds of dollars doing it.. It seems that anything old / not mainstream costs twice the amount of your pre-fab pop 'new releases'..
Until the prices come down I will have to stick with the MP3's I have been able to download - and of course listening to originals that I own on Vinyl...
Try using +R / +RW in your Playstation2... good luck..
DVD+R has not been approved by the DVD Standards Forum..
DVD+RW compatibility is very low in DVD players..
DVD+R media is expensive..
DVD+R is being pushed by Sony and HP - who have both been known in the past to exclude features from their hardware that present a conflict of interest (ie. CDA extraction etc..) and sleep with a certain M$ machine to get copy protection hardcoded everywhere they can...
--
On the other hand DVD-R media is cheap.. compatibility is almost 100%.. and copy protection doesn't seem to be an issue (hey they work in playstation2 no problem)
Apple has been pushing this standard for years.. and yes is HAS been endorsed by the DVD standards forum..
Drives that support DVD-R are the best way to go for quite a few reasons.. 1. The media is cheapest / easiest to find. 2. DVD-R is supported in most regular DVD player whereas DVD+R / RW amd DVD-RAM dont work in everything 3. The new Pioneer DVD-R drives are the same drives that Apple has been selling for years with their high-end systems (Superdrive)..
I ended purchasing the Pioneer drive (A04) for my PC and havn't had a problem with it or the media anywhere... and you can't beat the price for blank double sided media (9.4GB of storage)..
Valium is pretty expensive to produce let alone spray over large areas..
I would suggest dropping massive amounts of Cannabis sativa seeds.. they are easily and cheaply produced.. since it is a weed it spreads very quickly - grows well in tropical climates.. and has muliple uses..
In fact there is a very real possibility that this approach could turn the enemy into a bunch of friendly peaceful pot smoking farmers..
Hasn't Netscape been doing this (adding middleware) this since the beginning of time?? If you type in a keyword the browser takes you to the Netscape.com Search page.. While this may not be the best answer I believe it beats going to a 'Realname'.. Why?.. Because you can only have ONE Realname for any given word, going to search results page at least gives you 10 or so choices instead of something you never wanted to go to.. even if all 10 are paying for that top spot it's better than ONE.
At this point you really don't.. because most of your employees also use Windows at home...
As an experiment some of our more computer literate employees switched to Linux - but in the end had to switch back due to a plethora of small but annoying problems.
These included opening files sent via email.. as well as simple things like fonts not displaying properly.. websites not working properly (ie. streaming win media) (yes we know about crossover but BUYING a program to run FREE windows programs seems wrong).. file system structure.. and believe it or not the 'ugly' interface was mentioned quite a few times. Yes GNOME looks nice - but its nowhere near as polished as Windows or Aqua..
Back in the day when I was 15 or so I obtained a copy of a book called 'The Anarchists Cookbook'.. The best Chemistry book I ever owned.. Now it didn't cover all of Natures building blocks.. although there is alot to be said from a 'hands on' learning approach.. I remember searching all summer for a strip of 'Magnesium' to ignite the Thermite powder I had created.. Lucky for me my first Chemistry class in highschool started that September.. Magnesium wasn't that hard to come by after all:)
So we can expect that Adaware will add a disclaimer to their EULA stating that: "Any attempt to uninstall our software will result in an uninstall upon reinstallation.. further more we will uninstall our uninstaller to prevent future uninstalls."
I was in my local video store the other day (Suspect Video for all your Toronto folk).. and they had a copy of Spriggan on sale.. not the import but rather the North American dubbed release.
After hearing so much about it.. but holding off buying it on Ebay.. I snatched it up immediately. Purchased a 2L bottle of Coca~Cola.. some Nachos.. hot salsa.. anyways..
THIS MOVIE IS OVERHYPED.. There are some cool scenes thoughout the movie.. but THIS IS NOT A GREAT movie. The animation wasn't spectacular like it was hyped up to be - especially near the end.. the story was weak at best.. and character development was next to none. The kids voice was annoying.. too many plot holes.. not enough Spriggan.. not enough Valkyries..
When it comes down to it Best Buy is simply a retail outlet for electronic goods. If they don't carry what people want they will go out of business.
Sure they like copy protection because in the SHORT TERM it may mean that new music will be less available online.. but in the long term a 'cripple ware' solution will only cripple the consumers trust in what they are buying.
Losing that trust is loosing a customer.. maybe they wont buy 5 CD's/month anymore.. but if they don't trust you they may not buy anything.

I wish that we would spend billions of dollars on getting some 'manned' craft to Mars... something a little more practical. something that the whole globe can engage in..
I mean trying to determine if a star 7 miles in diameter 8 billion light years away is made of sub-nuclear particles seems like an effort in futility..
A retrovirus is special because it contains an enzyme called reverse transcriptase. This enzyme works backwards, translating RNA into DNA. Retroviruses contain RNA within their protein coat, and use reverse transcriptase to create DNA that can be inserted into the cell it is attacking. One of the most famous (or perhaps infamous) retroviruses is the HIV retrovirus, which causes AIDS.
Retroviruses are being investigated for 3 reasons:
1) They can be used as vectors to transport genetic information into a host cell.
2) Reverse transcriptase can be used to isolate DNA sequences from a mRNA chain so that the gene can be manipulated through bioengineering techniques.
3) To find a way to genetically engineer a cure for AIDS. If the action of reverse transcriptase can be halted somehow, the HIV virus will have no way to spread its harm through the body and millions of lives could be saved.
For the past 4+ years people have been ripping, burning, broadcasting, playing, trading, leeching music on their computers.
Artists have never been compensated for any of this.
The RIAA shuts down one site.. another pops up. The RIAA wins one lawsuit.. looses another. The RIAA bans one piece of software.. four more take its place.
Money that is supposed to go to 'the artist' will always be caught in this never ending cycle.
Rumour has it Sprint is going to be launching a similar high speed service.
Rumour has it bell is going to be launching a faster service similar to the Telus Velocity.
Rumour also has it that Rogers is going to be raising their prices for the $40/month plan (calling it Heavy User) and then adding another product in between the Lite service and the Heavy user.
The theatrical DVD relase should really contain BOTH the pan/scan and widescreen.
I guess we are starting to see the limitations of current DVD technology (ie not enough space for both versions when its a long movie).
Back in the day they didn't figure into the equation that interactive features would become so popular / take up so much space. So when the movie is long you run out of room.
Anything that can get rid of 30% of legacy bloat is ok in my books..
I am surprised something like this wasn't adopted years ago when we were all on dialup.. It would seem thats when we needed smaller file sizes the most.
i will admit every new build of WC3 has seen improvements in defensive structures.. although they are still far from being effective in any kind of rush...

What they dont tell us is that since the treatment he has been eating alot of bananas and is now living up in a tree with the other monkeys.
