Remember, Ximian doesn't depend on the linux server market at all. They are strictly desktop, though I personally would like to see them working on a full-blown backend to replace Exchange in all its glory (i.e. full-featured web integration and shared address books like tying PHPGroupWare or something to that extent)... hint, hint, Miguel.
www.phpgroupware.org amongst many others. They just don't happen to be wrapped nicely in a bloated bugfest, you actually need set them up yourself instead of clicking next, next, next.
RTFA... the headline/. uses is the Reuters headline. Besides that basic fact, notice that the entire article (on/.) is in itallics; that means the submitter wrote the whole thing without editorial intervention (besides possibly cutting off the end, and deciding to put it on the frontpage). On another note, does "If you don't mean to imply something, qualify it or use phrasing that doesn't imply it in the first place. Pointing loftily to less common meanings as an excuse for clumsy wordplay is shoddy" imply that you need all words with multiple meanings expressly defined for you? That would be sad. Now go crawl back under your rock.
I got all three concurrently at about 300KB/s at ftp://ftp.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake-iso/i586 I've also been told that ftp://sunsite.uio.no/pub/linux/Mandrake/Mandrake/i so is quite good. Pound away:)
The Mandrake Mosix Terminal Project is extremely similar and is based on the k12ltsp concept. Check it out if you can. K12ltsp is great for rolling-out massive amounts of LTSP servers quickly.
It seems that more and more people are using politics to spur linux distributions. Spinning-off a GPL project is all well and good; but do you have to wish ill on the original project? It doesn't seem like this is different enough from smoothwall yet to indicate a new distribution. On a similar topic, has anyone checked out Sorcerer GNU/Linux lately? Seems this is happenning a bit too much for my taste. I'm all for things like K12LTSP which don't attempt to take anything from there originators, yet add productive/usefull features for anyone in a specialized nitche.
That's fine, donate cash to Linus. However, if you have written software, found bugs, or solved technical problems for Mdk users, then you already have donated. Also, remember, you're talking about the ability to download their latest version for free. Offering a free download of binary or source is not a requirement of the GPL, it's just a nice thing to offer to the world. I'm sure we've all heard it before... The GPL is NOT internet-aware.
Doesn't the fact that the RIAA has held CDs worth about $.25(plus the intelectual property's worth, if that worth is monetary) at a price of $15.99 for a decade compensate that loss due to theft scenario?
It's more like the government is saying something like "Since nano-assemblers allow you to recreate "designer" beach balls, we're going to charge you an extra $150 for the assembler and give that money to the distribution company that ripped of the beach ball designer."
Of course, in that scenarioe, you could easily just make the extra $150 once you own the assembler;)
Because mandrake is providing a 'public service' without public support (i.e. government grants, tax monies). They don't receive tax money for any of the service they provide to the french population, let alone the rest of the world. They would love to contain 100% GPL code in their commercial box sets; but considering what they give you, it's just not possible. Their download versions however, if not as 'all inclusive' as their box sets, are quite a nice representation of just how usable, efficient, beautiful and refined a Public Service Software offering can be.
That's a good idea, but I was just thinking one of these little cars with an X10 spycam on the hood... I guess a mini-chopper would be better at that too!
The crossover plugin installs Apple's Quicktime Player by default on the first install. That's what the comment about QT is about. This right up is about www.codeweavers.com crossover plugin, a fantastic product which supports embedding plugins into Netscape/Mozilla and Konqueror in Linux. The plugins now supported are Wordviewer, ExcelViewer, PowerPointViewer, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Apple QuickTime Player, Shockwave(not just Flash), EFax, and apparently now even WMP. This thing just plain rocks. I've yet to see MPlayer embedded in N/M/K, even trying with plugger.
I said a choice besides vfat, which is a choice in NT/2000/XP. I said besides that choice, which do you have? My point being that the poster pointed to ReiserFS, claiming it is a hog; and that ReiserFS is just one of tons of choices of FSs in Linux, and it's certainly not rammed down the user's throat on ANY distribution that I know of. In fact, AFAIK, you need to specifically change the defaul in EVERY distro in order to use ReiserFS.
They released it with the GPL, which is a document telling you that you can recieve the source changes they've made if you have the binary. It doesn't say they need to deliver the source in any sort of timely manner. I'm picking it apart as I assume they will in court, I know it's knit-picking, and I am a firm believer in the GPL. What I'm saying is that there should be a time specification on delivery of the source code if you've received their binary. As the GPL stands, there is not. I agree on the definition of accompany, however, only the the written offer of availability is necessary per 3(b); which does not specify when or how the source is to be delivered, leaving a gaping hole, imho, which needs to be patched. I don't think the GPL stands in its current state, and I don't like the thoughts of what that implies. I've never looked at it closely enough to come to this conclusion before; but having done so now, I think it is sorely lacking that detail in 3(b) of the current version.

"ftp://sunsite.uio.no/pub/linux/Mandrake/Mandrake/ iso" ;)
grr... take out that space in there... it's "/iso"
Damnable machine

Yeah, I thought it was pretty silly myself. Oh well, SF can kiss it;)
Binary-only kernel modules are allowed. Think Nvidia.
That's not too surprising, considering what I've heard, thanks for the linkage. I'm trying to keep it all in perspective, yet hear both sides.

That's good to know, and it doesn't seem to be nearly as flame-skewed as the SGL fiasco, but it is a nonetheless disturbing trend.

The moderators need to learn MathML... all these posts marked 'Informative' are anything but. :)
you sir, are an idiot. 28900mm^2 would be 83,521,000 "square mm"
actually, it says it correctly... you were thinking of 170 "square mm" when actually it states that it's 170 "mm squared." The article is correct.
Of course, screaming ,i.IIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
you'll only be openning a ton of explorer windows to my new porn site http://eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.ee

You are obviously and absolutely correct, moderators pay attention, please. I knew about ten words into it that it was a re-run.
...is definately Smallville.
:)
I had no idea kryptonite had sooooo many uses, the science on THAT show is top notch.
BTW, getting fp on a Katz article is easy, I think 99% of the slashcrowd filter him out. Hi Jon
