I'm am in absolutely no way a "scientist" of any kind; but how about this theory:
When the "big bang" happened, the universe probably looked very dusty. There was all sorts of matter, dispersed indescriminately among void. When the particles of matter started attracting each other via gravity (we should be praying to 'G' without the 'od' as it is [most likely] the real creator of the univers), the attractant energy between them whirling around and finding each other probably created positive and negative feeds that eventually disipated after the "great settlement"(copywrite and trademark bhsx as of now). This would cause more energy and friction causing acceleration in the particles till they smash together, and instantaniously create new gravity fields, governing their new environments.
OK, that was quite a rambling, and probably built on completely false assumptions of physics, of which I'm a layman (although I do know how to fall correctly); but can anyone even understand what I'm trying to get at?
P.S. It's Friday night here... I'm a little toasted!;)
Keep in mind, the "Preview" button is taunting me right now, beging for my approval, but I'm ignoring him. He's not my friend.

I sell new home construction. There, I said it.
I was running my own consulting firm until 2001 hit and I made little more than $15,000US and decided my little sister had it right
(she beat me to owning a bar/restaurant, if you know where Spring Hill Mall is in IL, please check out Cobblestone Tavern & Grill... it's the old JJ Finigan's[this is the first and last time I'll ever plug my sis's place... EVER!], get the pork chops, they're incredible!),
I taught her how to sell when she was young, and she was doing quite well with a national builder (one of the big 20 or so), and turned my back on IT to pay the bills.
I now work for a Fortune 250 builder and couldn't be happier with my life. I make more money than my best year as a consultant, and I get to meet new and interesting people everyday. The best part, to me, is that I give people keys to their new home at the end of the process. I used to push numbers around in a box and deliver a working solution. The difference; again, to me, is sort of like the end of Office Space, when Peter is happier. It just feels so good, you wouldn't believe it, especially when you find a way to get someone a home when they never thought they had the ability to own. It's humbling and a genuinely heart-warming experience.
That said, it is hard enough to go into a farming community (which is where builders, um, build) and start building where the small-numbered locals don't like you building there and vocally let you know that. It would be infinately harder to try to sell in an area where everyone knows you stole the Nelson's land to put your construction trailer 'til you build someone else's home there.
This is bad law; no doubt.
I forgot to mention (preview should be required), I also figure they'll provide tax processing services and efile services around January. You wouldn't have to enter anything in, and maybe they'll even create some good algorithms to figure out which would be the best form for your situation.
Can we just consider this one post?
Mod accordingly;)
No, my first guess I think may be the right one.
My guess is that they're going to be competing with Quicken, Microsoft Money, and probably even the online sites like TurboTax.
You'll be able to upload your Quicken and probably all ledger formats to Google. I imagine they've worked out some fabulously easy online bill pay system to couple it, and that's where they'll make the money. They'll charge the 1% or so that current credit card companies charge for their use. BTW, that charge is incurred by the seller.
Kexi is a really exciting addition to KOffice. I've had my eye on it for a long time. The beta build process was a real bear; but I even got a few versions built. It was snappy and probably even easier to use than Access. You can search/. for a post from a couple years ago with me bitching about needing an Access replacement; with Kexi and Base (OO.o) we now have two! Awesome.
The interesting thing about those charts are the over 50% unspecified on both. How much of that is clasified government work, and what is it crunching?
Well, I can tell you that for the first time in my life, I called my Senator, Dick Durbin. I've used the EFF's (invaluable) fax service before; but I've never actually called. This, for me, could be a final straw in my belief of a failing system, you see; so it became that important to me. This is how the conversation went:
bhsx: I'd like to know Senator Durbin's stance on the rumor of a ryder being added to the appropreations bill regarding the mandate of the broadcast flag.
Nice, very professional sounding rep: You know, we just started hearing about this yesterday, and we really don't know enough about it to say, at this point.
bhsx: Well, the rumor only broke yesterday. I voted for the Senator last election; and will rethink that vote if this happens.
Nice, very professional sounding rep: We are taking a tally, we've gotten plenty of phone calls about this. Do I understand that you are against this possible ryder?
bhsx: Yes, very much so...
Nice, very professional sounding rep: That does seem to be the concensus here sir, we will be looking at this very closely. Thank you for calling.
Of course, Senator Durbin is eating crow over breaking Godwin's Law, so maybe he saw this as a possible platform for looking like the good guy again. Who know's why it happenned; but believe that every one of us here that faxed and phoned got heard. Keep up the good work everyone!
Go to archive.org. It is funded through grants and is a non-profit org. This is not done for commercial gain. It is done to record the history of human documentation when production/distribution costs drop to zero.
Here's my prediction. It'll come true sooner than Dvorak's did:
HP will build and sell desktops and laptops with Apple's OS X. They might have the Apple logo right along-side the HP logo; but it will definately be branded and marketed by HP.
They already are using HP do build and market iPods. Steve understands HP's distribution chain and likes it. They'll still be lock-in chips, just like the Apple brand, so OS X will still get cracked out of necessity.
This is going to happen. Steve sees this as a huge push into the corporate desktop, and he's gunning for it. He'll sign HP into the deal too early and might suffer a bit for it in Apple dollars; but he'll do it because he'll fear he won't keep up with demand, which scares him.
Of course, I've made some rather curious assumptions about Steve Jobs, and I won't be 100% accurate. Take it all with a grain of salt, with tongue firmly in cheek. Just give credit when it happens!:)
If Microsoft bought Red Hat, wouldn't this mean that Microsoft would be under the GPL when it comes to releasing software? I'm glad you asked that, because I collect stupid questions and I hadn't seen that one before.
1. Noone will want to play Madden 2002 by the time it gets to Xbox.
2. I'll wait for the GNU/Linux version of Tony Hawk American Wasteland, thank you very much!
3. I have yet to see decent FPS in consoles lately, I mean I used to get ~22 FPS in Goldeneye.
4. Besides, Bill Gates writes shitty games.
5. The Xbox controller ate my baby!
6. Also, couldn't they have come-up with something more original than Xbochs? I mean, haven't we all (besides slow-ass Debian) switched to Xorg-bochs now anyway?
7. The Japanese are nuts about consoles, but you know what? Xbox 360 has sold ZERO, that's right, ZERO units there (I'm not making this stuff up!)
8. The Xbox port of GTA ate my baby!
9. Um, Xbox games are all tech demos, very little actual gameplay involved my friend.
10. My mom washed my Xbox, and it BLEW UP!
11. I have an Xbox 360 and it sucks. I use it now for weighing down my paninis.
And may I add, WTF? You know these listed posts are supposed to start with 0, right? HAND

As someone who bought HHGTTG and eventually put it down without finishing, I've become enthralled with the radio broadcasts. I've recently downloaded them and have been listenning to two episodes per day.
Brilliant! I guess when I was in high school I just didn't get it.
I am looking forward to the movie, expecting to be less than impressed; but we'll see.
I seriously am envious of anyone able to code anything decent. I have developer envy.
In any case, I was wondering some of the same things that you put forth in the blog about fractally "petrifying" the GNOME codebase. It was my first DE i'd used with linux (rh5.2, I think CDE [ugh] was default) and loved it; but it never seemed to add features. KDE 3.2 grabbed me after a few years of just using black/fluxbox and seems to really have the upper-hand in "creating value" when upgrading from previous versions. Do you feel GNOME has been losing ground for this reason? I'm looking forward to trying Beagle and seeing where Seth's OpenGL hacks lead to for metacity, but outside of that, I can't think of why I'd want to run GNOME anymore. Can you try to give me some insight into why I should be looking forward to future GNOME2 versions, let alone GNOME3?
If OS X uses CUPS, can I safely assume that every OS X-compatible printer is supported by CUPS? If so, why doesn't someone just clone that interface? I mostly use my Ubuntu box for a game server these days. I haven't been using Linux as a desktop for a while (for the most part, beyond testing new games), so maybe KDE or GNOME have their own shiny interfaces that could be given a facelift to function more like the OS X version?

Now that was funny!
My mom washed my Linux Home Theatre PC, and it BLEW UP!
OK, I'm done (but for how long?)
This one's better:
My mom washed my Electic Bugaloo, and it BLEW UP!
That'll do pig, that'll do.
I'm going for a new meme here:
My mom washed the broadcast flag, and it BLEW UP!

OK, I'm a moron. I admit it.
Now can you break that down for me?
Seriously, to quote ObviousGuy:
"I don't get it."
I find it funny that I didn't see OP's post.
Slashdot censorship at its finest!
"DAYTOOK'RFREEDUMASPEECH!"
Oh man, that was bad. I feel dirty.
I'm going into stasus...
