While I agree with your ultimate point, this is a horrible example. It just shows that you are more talented than your counterpart, but that says nothing about overseas talent as a whole. Your story would be the same if you replaced the word "Indian" with "co-worker down the hall"

Maybe he was talking about upgrading from Java 1.3 to.NET 2.0, I can see how that would cause many problems...
The last time I played around with Atlas, which may have been very early in it's beta cycle, there was still some level of necessary JS coding by the developer. Perhaps that has changed, which would be awesome...
Besides, I still don't think they are comparable - with ASP.NET, you are still coding in both ASPX and C# (or VB) files, meaning that you are getting your hands dirty with some HTML - this seems to be completely managed code.
...is by far and above the fact that you are coding your website in Java, using their API and SWT-like objects, and the Javascript/Ajax is then generated from your classes.
I think Google is mostly responsible for launching the AJAX trend, and now they're moving in a brand new direction? Beautiful.
Oh and they even distributed half of the source code for the project in the JAR files.
The article doesn't say, but the official site seems to make it sound just like the March CTP (Community Technology Preview) has been released.....In other words, not the final version, which makes this headline incorrect.
It depends on what you are trying to use it for, but compared to a lot of other voice-reco systems (especially those in the telephony space), it can be far simpler to get an application initially set up and running in no time.
There are some annoyances in the current version (i.e. most logic has to be put in javascript files to control the call/prompt flow, since there is a "voice browser" that just interprets the response, so you need to modify it's DOM).. but it sounds like they will be making great improvements on these in the next release that's slated end of 06 / early 07.
Can someone please tell me how a bad cliched joke from someone who didn't even bother to read the article because they wanted one of the first posts is modded "Interesting"?
This is the guy who just bought Myspace.com for $300 million. Is an outrageous price for Skype really out of the question?

Don't quotes like this just help to inspire and motivate your competitors?

"a while now" is what, six months?

Why is it going to debut with Exchange 12?
Are they expected email admins to go nuts creating new scripts now? Seems like it's not exactly their target audience...
Is the entire audience of Slashdot and engadget so stupid that they can't tell when someone is telling a joke?
No option to send SMS reminders to Verizon users?
What gives? The list is pretty populated with the other major carriers, wonder if Verizon is being left out on purpose?

thanks for correcting my typo - seems as if the marketing has gotten to me :)
What happens to those current subscribers who bought their TV whole-price and are paying $12.95/mo for the service?

how is Cisco currently in the home entertainment market?
How can they be considered a competitor of Microsoft's in that market?
Is that all it takes?
I would hope people would take more of a wait and see approach to see how widespread the problem is.
You've always been able to write extended stored procedures in C, so why not extend that to a managed lanaguage?
Can you post any links to these stories?

This is pretty shameless, guys.
..who has them?
I'm pretty sure that the "eclipse-news.html" link in the article would tell you all about Eclipse, if it wasn't currently slashdotted to all hell.
Agreed, this is the worst article I've seen on the once proud CNN since.. "Katie Holmes considering Scientology".
Does anyone else take a deep breath before clicking on one of these links at work?
But at last I am interested in buying Longhorn!
