Im paying ridiculous amounts for cable for the same reason I pay ridiculous amounts for Internet, electricity, and sometimes software. It's called monopoly. Hell, where I live (Houston appartment), DSL is the only broadband. So they all cost too much IMO. And I pay for every one of em.
Nevertheless... tobacco companies did lie often, until the government forced them to stop. They put sometimes deadly additives in tobacco to enhance flavor. They lied about the harmful effects as long as they could. They add nicotine to make them even more addictive, etc. Now, everyone knows that cigs are bad, but that doesn't vindicate the tobacco companies for their practices. While I agree with your last statement about everyone claiming to be a victim, aren't you in favor of punishing corporations that do crap like that?
I've seen this in some places, namely South America. Seeing as how we're all part of the New World and whatnot I suppose we all qualify as American. Since Canada is part of America (a good part IMO) and their currency is dollars as well I suppose they too have "American dollars". I can't see anyone being offended by the reference to the universal currency of the Underground as American dollars. Ahh them benjamins.

You seem to think the DA cares about you... The only way a DA would give 2 shits about anyone in his electorate is if they started snipering folks from the back of an old car. Then again maybe im too pessimistic. Elected government occasionally works on the local level.
Another way of saying this is we should not let politicians accept corporate campaign donations. I mean isn't a senator taking money from the corps. he's supposed to be regulating just the same as a judge taking money from a defendant? What possible further good could come from allowing this practice except the further dumbing down of the American people through incessant political advertising? Alternately we could just teach people to vote with their brains instead of based on what they heard on CNN. Right... like that'll ever happen.

I agree. Giving the computer the decision not to turn itself off is the annoying as hell. At the very least the functions should be reversed -- hard powerdown on letting up the key unless you hold it for 3 secs in which case it hibernates.
In similar news, cops were told that, as soon as crime goes away, they're all out of a job. I don't think most people think crimes are caused by cops for job security.
