    > If you don't believe any of the evidence on AGW, you're either ignorant or a denier. The evidence is overwhelming.

The evidence is that according to some measurement methodology, mean temperatures are higher now than they were decades before, by fractions of degrees.
The other evidence is that, according to some measurement methodology, the relative proportion of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is higher that it was decades before.

Whether the augmentation of greenhouse gases is due to human activity, whether the augmentation of temperature is corellated to that of greenhouse gases, whether this augmentation of temparature will continue and whether it will have negative consequences is NOT evidence, but the results of statistical analysis, physical and computational models.

So while refusing to accept facts can be called denialism, being skeptical about theorical models and extrapolations should not. Labelling AGW critics as shills paid by big oil companies will not help the cause either - this tactics usually comes from conspiration nuts.

Any value between 0% and 100%, except 1%, for the "real" chances will prove Jimbo "wrong", so one could pick 0% or 1.1% to compute the average and get values very close to Jimbo's estimates.

  20. In Switzerland... on Time Warner Cable Box Rental Inspired Antitrust Lawsuit · · Score: 1

In Switzerland, the largest cable operator (Cablecom) is slowly but steadily switching from analog to digital. The problem is that the analog channels, which are broadcast in "clear" on the cable are replaced by the same digital channels that are encrypted and require the mandatory rented Cablecom box to be watched.
A consumer association challenged this up to the federal legislative body, requiring that the basic package be unencrypted (premium pay channels could remain encrypted) and that consumers can chose their decoder (current encryption is Nagra, so simply providing a decoding card instead of a box would be possible). Cablecom replied with completely bogus allegations that not using encryption would prevent it providing "interactive services" and make it "less competitive" because no encryption standard exists for cable.
Unfortunately, the Parliament believed all this crap, hook and sink, and the petition was dismissed without much discussion.

When I bought my PMP 300, it was the first portable MP3 player to be sold in my town. The owner of the computer shop where I bought it asked me if I could open the package in the shop and let him try it, because it looked so innovative.
My PMP 300 ist still working. I only had to fix the battery compartment door, because the tiny platic bit that held it shut broke quite early. I have used it for about 5 years, jogging approximately 40 kilometers per week, so it has supported more than 10'000 kms with me, through cold, heat, snow, rain and sweat. That has built some sentimental links... I can not say that much for the headphones, which I have had to change twice a year.
After five years I switched to a Rio Psa Play (still working), and more recently to an iRiver T10 (because it is one of the last MP3 player to use AA batteries rather than AAAs). The switch from the PMP 300 was due to have more capacity and faster transfer rates, but the quality of the PMP 300 itself has more than satisfied me.

In their great wisdom, they now recognize how their perturbated childhood has misguided them to take very wrong decision as senators. They want to prevent the future leaders of this country to become the bloodthirsty warmongers they are now.
