Actually Mars may turn out to be a pretty cool place? Why not send them to explore a distant sun. Like, for example, ours. Express rocket, we could test new propulsion systems too.
With all due respect to those that died in all of the previous space missions. NASA, The current US administration, and the US public need to get over it and move on. Space travel is currently dangerous business. Every one who engages in it are educated and trained professionals. They know exactly the dangers, better than all of those who second guess them. I don't see the astronauts saying "Hell No I won't get in this craft, it's too dangerous". They realize that for what they are doing the track record is pretty good. Can safety at NASA improve? Of course! Should we stop until it's perfect? No!
I use NetBSD at home on my Qube2. I like the Demon; in fact I like it a lot. I get the NetBSD logo and I'm amused by it. I don't particularly like though so I agree that a change could be good.
However! I am honestly offended by suggestions that a cartoon demon could be offensive to a sane religion or society. The religions and societies that do find offense in these sorts of things are looking for any excuse to spread hate and frankly I'm sick of it.
Actually this was the topic of an old Sci-Fi short story called "A Pail of Air". Basically it was a thought experiment starting with the nemesis theory (Giant dark proto-sun in a highly elliptical orbit which swings by every epoch to cause mass extinctions).
So Nemesis swings by and strips the Earth off the sun's orbit. The goes dark and cold and there is some tectonic activity. The interesting thing is that the Earth's temperature starts to drop to match the temperature of open space. The oceans freeze and the atmosphere condenses and rains down to the surface, where it forms strata based on what temperature the gas condenses at. To the protagonist goes out side and digs past the CO2 until he finds a strata of O2 and brings a pail of air inside.
But I doubt even a small number of people could survive this for long!
Sorry, thought the USians had come to their senses and had found the superior oil for salads. However I see they still wallow in their ignorance. 'tis a shame....
Don't you know that the CIA is busy right now "finding" WMD Evidence in IRAN as we speak. North Korea is cooperating (bafflingly) in proving they already have it. It is just a matter of time before the USians take matters in their own hands and save us from ourselves; whoops! I mean save us from the "axis of evil".
I wonder if there are any French embassies between Strategic Air Command bases and Tehran?
Desktop OS and RTOS aren't the same thing or in the same market. TRON (and ITRON) are extremely popular RTOS platforms / API and they are used in a lot of devices developed in Japan. I'd say kernels with their API are at least as successful Linux + Mac + *BSD in their arena!.
In fact I wouldn't be particularly surprised if they had more installations.
I work for a medical diagnostic device manufacturer in R&D. This is the sort of quality that we expect for a "one of" which goes to trade shows or to the CEO or CTO dog & pony shows. We have several model makers who do this sort of thing. I'd hire this guy in heartbeat even with a weaker resume or less experience. Which I suppose this web-site would almost qualify as.
Hmmm... perhaps I need to talk them into helping me with my next Power Mac!
Also With the gadgetry they have in the machine shop, it's not that hard. Given the level of detail and precision this guy shows he may well have done by hand and really be a masochist in disguise
Yes, with current technology it is a waste. But with other technology it could be useful. For example bio-remediation or myco-remediation could easily be a back yard project or a massive billion square kilometer project.

Then now would be excelent time to find this woman, go to pay phone and remind her just how you feel.

like I said, a SCI-FI short story. It wouldn't do just go out and scrape the first layer!
try reading coporatespeak in German! Or worse Engish translated from German!
Too bad I'm not in your timezone
finally something besides wintel!
HAve you ever tried using an EPROM burner with DOSEMU? I've got a couple of Needhams burners that connect via LPT1.

I thought the FBI bought 'Carnivore' at Best Buy!
Been done, it's braile.

Damn sure is like that here in Austria. I guess he's tired of looking like a fool to people make up his target audience.

Then it seems to me that we should all quit our SCO whining and bitching and create a medical manager under the GPL.
No you just peel the labels off and put them in the right place!
I was just thinking that! but none the less 8.2 is easy to set up dual head.
Just a date, with a nice a girl...
Missed it though, I don't pay enough attention to the news.
But there was hardware there!

Christ I'm tuning into a luddite, and enjoying it. When do I get chucked off /.?
