With all due respect to those that died in all of the previous space missions. NASA, The current US administration, and the US public need to get over it and move on. Space travel is currently dangerous business. Every one who engages in it are educated and trained professionals. They know exactly the dangers, better than all of those who second guess them. I don't see the astronauts saying "Hell No I won't get in this craft, it's too dangerous". They realize that for what they are doing the track record is pretty good. Can safety at NASA improve? Of course! Should we stop until it's perfect? No!

However! I am honestly offended by suggestions that a cartoon demon could be offensive to a sane religion or society. The religions and societies that do find offense in these sorts of things are looking for any excuse to spread hate and frankly I'm sick of it.

  10. Re:Actually you wouldn't notice on Double Pulsar Discovered · · Score: 4, Interesting
Actually this was the topic of an old Sci-Fi short story called "A Pail of Air". Basically it was a thought experiment starting with the nemesis theory (Giant dark proto-sun in a highly elliptical orbit which swings by every epoch to cause mass extinctions).

So Nemesis swings by and strips the Earth off the sun's orbit. The goes dark and cold and there is some tectonic activity. The interesting thing is that the Earth's temperature starts to drop to match the temperature of open space. The oceans freeze and the atmosphere condenses and rains down to the surface, where it forms strata based on what temperature the gas condenses at. To the protagonist goes out side and digs past the CO2 until he finds a strata of O2 and brings a pail of air inside.

But I doubt even a small number of people could survive this for long!
