Okay, how's this: Since Microsoft Internet Explorer has a dominant market share, people make pages that work on IE. Some of the pages do not work on Firefox since they use some functionality found only in IE. Greasemonkey can be used to alter some of those pages so that they work on Firefox again.
It's Microsoft's fault that people have to install insecure extensions to make web work like it should have worked in the first place.
Exactly! And this is the reason the article is bullshit. I don't care about the programs or the OS that are installed on my pc, I can always re-install them.
It's my personal data that is valuable. Documents, music, movies, photos, source code and other stuff you have created or collected, that's what makes the pc valuable. After those it's settings in the installed programs.
If there was some magical way of transferring my files, and to a lesser extent, settings, to a new computer I'd do it the moment I'd notice my machine is compromised.
Widows has gotten a lot better in that regard. Nowdys it says "Programname has encountered an erre and has to be shut down" or something like that. No more "Illegal operation," that made some people fear that the police is going to raid their home.
Author mode means that the browser uses the styles specified by the author of a web page. The opposite is user mode, where it will use your own stylesheet.
They are still there in Opera 8. Press Shift-G or View -> Style -> User mode / Author mode to toggle between the modes.
Well, the V in DVD hasn't really come true yet either. I've only been able to watch movies, play music and store data on the discs. I was looking for more Versatility, like chopping wood or frying eggs or something.
I'm going to try and play the Battlefield 2 demo online without having to log out and in again like normal...
You can play without administrative privileges if you play on a non-punkbuster server. Battlefield 2 demo does not require administrative privileges. Punkbuster does.

That's it man, game over man, game over! What the fuck are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do?
Course I gotta be careful what I say for the sake of karma right? Wrong. I don't care about karma on this website
Well then why did you have to mention it? That was just another way of saying "I'll probably be modded down for this, but..."

In my opinion the Opera guy(s) made a terrible mistake in desiring short term income over a competitive long term strategy.
Opera has been around for over 10 years, and are profitable.
Many downloadable apps require you to also download some long list of DLLs with the correct version.
Bullshit.
Don't forget to mention the Rez vibrator in each story.
With my reputation?
What were they thinking?
Naaaaa, really?
Using colors for syntax highlighting is different? Or it uses different colors than others? Or something else?
I don't get it...

Would it be better if it didn't have them?
I see User Friendly is still painfully unfunny.
Was there ever any doubt that it is simply impossible to swim from Norway to USA?
Okay, Open Source community isn't a source of innovation.
Open source community copies, clones and plagiarises.
This is what the first run of Opera 8 looks like: http://koti.mbnet.fi/wheany/kuvei/opera8.png
It might be a bit busy brcause it has the advertisment bar on the top, but other than that, the interface is pretty similar to FF.
Open Source isn't the only source of innovation.
