What arms race? I am glad they upgraded their firmware. It's not a big upgrade, but it's free and it does give new features.
I used to run homebrew on my PSP using 1.5 firmware. Then I realized a couple things: I didn't want the PSP for its homebrew capabilities two years ago, when I heard of it. And secondly, "homebrew" means either emulators and running pirated copies of 15-year-old games or just running really crappy games.
Yeah, I don't miss playing Tetris or Sokoban that much.
If you enable plugins in one tab, plugins in other tabs won't activate unless you reload them. And you can enable plugins in site's preferences, using site preferences as an exception to the normal surfing settings.
Maybe not quite what you're after, but you could sutf with java, plugins and gif animation disabled, and activate them (eg. F12 -> Enable java, or edit site preferences -> content -> Enable Java) as you need/want.
I myself browse with plugins, java and referrer logging disabled and activate them only if a page requires them.
While I was working at the helpdesk of the local fire station, we got a call that some fireman's document wouldn't print. Well, that was pretty much routine, since printer queues would get stuck from time to time and you had to restart the spooler service to get them going again.
Except that no member of the fire crew had bothered to inform us before that the printer wouldn't go. When we looked at the queue, we saw that the earliest document in it was dated one and a half months ago. So for 1.5 months everyone who wanted to print something had gone "Nah, someone else probably has called tech support."
On the other hand, having a sense of humor does not mean that you laugh at everything.

I kind of ran into the same problem the other day. I was developing a widget, and I was tweaking the CSS file when I started to think that I can't use a certain CSS feature because it doesn't work in other browsers. Then I realized that I'm developing a widget that doesn't even work on other browsers, so I'm free to use any CSS trickery that other browsers don't support. It was very liberating.
My point is this: you probably won't see those canvas extensions used on any particularly mainstream web page, but widget developers are free to use them to make smoother games and applications.

Those extensions probably work only on the desktop browser.
Nokia uses its own browser based on Webcore (=Safari) in its newest (Symbian) smartphones.
Opera 9 (the one whose release we are discussing) has widgets, which have many of the same qualities as extensions. Also, many of Firefox's extensions just implement features that are built-in in Opera.
A small number of frames does not mean that the animation is bad. Also, animation can be really smooth and still be bad animation. For reference, see most flash animations. Smooth, interpolated, shitty animation.
More like civil obidience. They (think they) are not doing anything illegal. It's like calling a group of people "The Jaywalkers" and always crossing the road when the go-light is on.
Theoretical browsing is the best kind.
Say, that is really interesting. Mod points! Mod points! My kingdom for mod points!
Did you see any smilies? No. That means he was serious.
I think it's pretty obvious an it is explained on the page.
Directory has no index file.
Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited.
If you are the site's webmaster, you can remedy this problem by creating a default HTML page with one of the following names:
index.html
index.htm
default.htm
Default.htm
home.html
Home.chtml
NOTE: Filenames are case sensitive, i.e., Home.html is not the same as home.html
Oh that's proof right there.
Bluetooth is a standard interface. If the PDAs don't support bluetooth keyboards, that's another problem.

Which is also the reason they abhor the Ipod.
So you think that ACs can't make up-mod-worthy comments? Curse those sub-human anonymous cowards!

Press "." and type what ever you want to find.

Correction: F12. That menu lets you control pop-up blocking, disable/enable embedded media, and disable/enable some network options.

Well stop making "it's" jokes and spell "its" correctly, then.
A+A+A+AAAAAAA++++++ Great article, would read again.

Well, it seems that "superhero" (or its variants) is not used anywhere on that site.
A winner of a Swedish reality show donated a big sum of money to The Pirate Bay. They used that money to buy more servers last year.
That sounds interesting, do you hava a link to a story?
