I just picked up a 1992 Ps/2 model that's in primo condition from a used computer store for $3! I had to steal some keycaps from some foreign language keyboards to make it complete, and it only took a little bit of work to clean off some dirt. After that, it looks and works great.
In your method 0 through 4 go down, so only 4 numbers are changed, but 5 through 9 go up, so 5 numbers are changed. That's why the others are saying every other time, round 5 down, then 4.5 numbers go down, 4.5 go up.
Luke specifically asked Leia about her real mother, implying that she was adopted sometime after her birth and raised by another couple. Perhaps Padme will keep her for a while, then die somehow leaving Leia with Organa.
This raises a more important point. Why would anyone buy the album in the first place and then why try and copy it? Does anybody really think Celine Dion fans are the type to get on the internet and download her album?
If you use the black marker to defeat the copy protection, can you still use the green magic marker to make it sound better? And will that improve the sound of your MP3s?
I think it can be easily determined that what is meant is that no one is worried about kids being able to use the software. Kids are much more adaptable to new technology than adults are, they're just not set in their ways yet. Its always been that way. A lot of teachers(and adults) struggle with OSes that have been around a long time, and fear having to learn something new on the computer because they just don't think they can do it.

Hell I've returned two items to the Garland Fry's just because I didn't like them when I got them home. No defects or anything. I had no trouble with the returns, aside from the fact that its a time consuming process.

Yes, you can archive shows to VCR without any trouble. It even has a little timer and instructions to make it easier.
As for people wanting a way to network and send shows, anybody who does this is asking for a smacking from the DMCA. I think ReplayTV is gutsy for doing this, but I think they stand a good chance of losing. Either way its going to cost them lots of money, and small companies like Tivo shouldn't be wasting their money on lawsuits until they're better established. It maybe a noble cause, but frankly I want my Tivo to continue to work for years to come, and not become obselete because Tivo went bankrupt attempting to fight the TV studios.
I'm not a big ZD fan anymore, but is this really their fault? With the WWW, and the plethora (oh how I love to use words like 'plethora') of small stores selling cheap stuff online, Computer Shopper was made irrelevant.
Still, it was cool. Such a big magazine. It was fun to buy because you seemed to be getting a lot for the money. And I too found some good deals. A few hard drives from HDI (now Insight), a couple of PCs from Quantex (who went under and screwed a lot of people), and a logitech hand scanner I barely ever used.
Have you ever ordered anything online? With all the orders I've placed, I've never gotten the receipt at the time of the sale, it always came with the item. And they should never charge the card until they're ready to ship. You don't own squat just because you've placed an order. And an order confirmation is not a receipt. I think the receipts he is showing on the websites are from people who went to the store and got BB to pricematch.
Have people claimed that their credit card was charged? I do lots of ordering over the web, sometimes ordering stuff that hasn't been released yet, and from what I've seen most companies don't charge until it ships.
In the past, and I believe its still this way, whenever you order something your card shouldn't be charged until its ready to ship. Back in the olden days (early 90's) I'd see this stated as a law in Computer Shopper's advice section on mail order, web sites should have to follow the same thing, I think, but IANAL. So the card probably wouldn't be charged right away when you buy something on a website that has an incorrect price.
Its actually titled "Evolutionism Propaganda" if you look at the top of the text. Still this guy is either completely insane, or you're right and it is satire.
You can pick up a couple of UPN networks from Dish for a small charge, at least you could a few months ago. There's a superstation package that gives you some UPN and WB stations, but they also sell those individually.
Also, you know longer need to live in specific areas to have access to locals. The old rules that required you to be so far away from the transmitters have been lifted. Dish recently added hundreds of locals to their system. Access is limited to your area based on zip code I believe. I live in DFW, and get 8 of the local DFW channels. If you're somewhat close to a decent sized city, you should be able to get them.
I can't remember the specific title. I think it was some B movie. There was a story on it at the Digital Bits one time because it was the first time anyone did P&S on the fly. Well technically that's matting, not P&S, but similar end result. Of course, with that method you lose resolution.
Subtitle are really just graphic overlays. You can do a lot with those. Ghostbusters uses that to overlay the people doing the commentary so it looks like MST3K.
What DVDs do you have that do this? Some have both on the disc, but to the best of my knowledge no one has ever implemented this feature. Its there, but I don't think its practical to use. The closest I know of was a film that was matted using the subtitle feature so you went from full frame to 16x9.
The only thing that I can think that you might be seeing is if you have your DVD player set to 16x9 mode, then anamorphic DVDs will fill you 4x3 TV, however everything will be stretched out.
Is reading HFS+ on a non-mac device considered anti-circumvention? That's a significant question. I used to work for a company that specialized in reading various graphic file formats, both open and closed ones. I can't help but wonder if that's legal anymore.
Its Accoustic Research, not Response. Good stuff. Lowe's sells the Pro Series, and I think their prices are better than Best Buy's who sells the cheaper AR stuff.
Play a PAL DVD on an NTSC TV and you will see a difference. PAL has more scan lines. It won't look right, that's a fact. Its a very important thing to consider when buying DVDs from other countries.
The jargon file comes through again. I didn't even look there. IMHO, acronyms less than three letters don't work as well. Of course this one having its origins in YACC should make sense.
Thank you all. Aside from YACC, I've never seen that by itself before. Of course, it is Monday morning, I shouldn't be required to think to much, should I?
If Kuro5hin tries to sustain what/. does, they'll probably end up with bigger adds or subscriptions.
Bandwidth and server space isn't free, nor is it even cheap. Lots of people come here daily, and many actually like it, unlike a bunch of whiners that complain about every little change, or lack there of, just because it isn't the way they'd do it.
Is this place perfect? No. But the only place that will be perfect to a person is one that is run by them. I don't have the time or resources to do something similar, and this one does pretty damn good in providing me with what I want.
Rob and Jeff have put a lot into this site, and they are justified in trying to make some money off it. If you don't like it, go elsewhere.
How can this not be a concern for us? All these giant media companies control all sorts of media. TV - OTA, satelite and cable, internet sites, internet access via cable, DSL, dialup, or wireless, and telephones both normal and wireless, magizines, newspapers and radio. These media companies also control movie and music distribution and will dictate new technologies that remove our rights. The also control the primary news sources. This certainly matters to anyone that cares about technology.
Don't worry, in a year or so Comcast will have AT&T's cable/internet division. I'm not sure which is worse though. MS has its hands in Comcast, for tech support you'll have to have MS, nothing else. They want (although I don't know if they require) you to use that remote software MS is supplying these days so they can "fix" your computer for you.

Is this an acronym I'm clueless about, or a typo? Honestly I just can't figure it out from the context, nor can I see it as a reasonable typo.
