In the commentary for Objects in Space, Joss Whedon comments that the bounty hunter takes people out in the most efficient way possible for their characters. (Something he didn't realize until his wife pointed it out.)
So He beats up Mal. He threatens to rape Kaylee. He uses logic on Simon.
And the clincher...
He comes at Book from behind, when Book is distracted, and knocks him out as fast as possible. He also comments, "That's no Shepherd."
No, there's a lot of cases recently of Fox taking a good show and intentionally sending it down the shitter.
Firefly is the best example (episodes shown out of order, at different times, and no advertising), and then Wonderfalls.
Arrested Development just barely squeaked through, and will probably not see a 3rd season.
Fox actually tends to take the most chances of any network (would you see 24 on NBC?)... they just understand that Simon Cowell pulls in amazing numbers, so play to their base.

There are tons of romantic subplots, and they all have a point.
There's not just Riker/Troi... There's the budding relationship between Dee and the Presidential Butt Boy, two people fiercely loyal to their superiors, and their superiors are sometimes at odds. There's the Lee/Starbuck/Gaius thing. The Starbuck/Zach (Lee's dead brother) There's Gaius/any female character. (Go him for getting some while running for Vice President in the bathroom!) There's Colonel Tigh and his wife.
Possibly the most important, the two Boomer bangs, Apollo and the Master Chief
Or Gaius and the head-chip Cylon.
All of them have a point. All of them have flaws. All of them have strengths.
Having a show where the romantic plots are actual plots is much better than having a show where they take two pretty people and have the fans try to care about what they're doing.
If you fly a spaceship to colonize a new planet, you will never have to drive a chuckwagon pulled by a team of horses to get across a babbling brook on that planet.
Actually, I think this is completely legit. You're saying that stuffed in among food, animals, plants, clothing, and supplies, they're going to have cars and a full mechanics shop and industrial facility? Sure, you may have nifty tech to get to a planet on the edge of nowhere, but the planet is on the edge of nowhere.
And it's not like Firefly didn't have both kinds of worlds -- there were bright, shiny, new worlds that were very sci-fi, and there were outlaw worlds, where the technology level hadn't gotten all the way back up to speed.
Think of the Old West, or the Oregon Trail. Better technology where you came from, a modern knowledge of how to build things, but no industry where you're going.
There's no room for modern amenities on account of the 1000 pounds of buffalo you need to carry back after one day of hunting.
Does this version work any better on OS X? I was very excited about Thunderbird for a while, but the first release was nigh unusable on OS X.
It was impossible to run without quitting and restarting the application, for instance. Close the main window, and it's *impossible* to get it back. Other problems like that made me ditch it in a heartbeat. Have things improved in.2?
You can get all the software updates from the command line, at least the ones that come through Software Update. The command is "softwareupdate", and needs to be run as root.
Now, I am a mac guy. And every time an article comes up, someone says they are cheaper, they aren't cheaper.
First off, we'll assume that a school is going to buy a computer from a manufacturer. We'll use Dell to compare.
The cheapest eMac isn't $800, it's $700. (Did you actually check the education store, since we are shopping for a school?) It has an 800 Mhz G4, which is pretty respectable for a mac. Comes with 128 MB RAM, 40 GB HD, a CD-ROM, 2 Firewire ports, 5 USB ports, built-in ethernet, 17-inch display and a Radeon 7500.
Heading over to Dell's education site, I found a Dimension 2400 for $689.90. It's got a 2.2 Ghz processor, 128 MB RAM, a 40 GB HD, CD-ROM, 6 USB ports, built-in ethernet, a 17-inch display, integrated video, 17-inch display and no speakers.
Both come with a mouse & keyboard, although the Dell does spring for an extra button.
I would say $10 is pretty close for about the same system. I was actually expecting the Dell to win by more, but have something silly like no network card. If you are buying machines without monitors, the Dell low-end trounces Apple; there isn't anything without a monitor at Apple for less that $1200.
I can attest that Azureus is working perfectly.
VLC has a couple minor problems, though.

You're right, that didn't need a GUI at all.

Though it compiles just fine, there is a nice package available from http://www.entropy.de
He was saying that Vancouver as a stand-in for New York sucks, not that Vancouver does.
The only part of X-Men 1 that took place in New York was the fight at the Statue of Liberty.
I can't think of anything from X-Men 2 that was supposed to be New York; plus, half the movie took place in Canada, so it's helpful to film there.
I was in an IRC room, and one of the people watching the keynote said a spreadsheet app (Grids) was mentioned as coming out soon.
I didn't see it on the quicktime stream, either, so maybe that was a hoax.
Steve Jobs said it was coming "soon" ... must not've made the deadline.
Way to rip off Red Dwarf.
No.
Yes, since Sega stopped making consoles, they've released several Sonic games for the GameCube.
First off, you can browse the iTunes Music Store without an iPod. Did you try the "Browse" button?
... the catalogs, if not identical, are very very close.
Secondly, all of Apple's audiobooks are through audible.com
I think SciFi paid for an entire season of Tremors for the price of one episode of Farscape.
TiVo already does this. That press release on Apple's page is approximately 2 years old.
Firefly is WAAY cheaper on DVD than Farscape.
$35 (from Amazon) gets you the entire series of Firefly (14 eps)
$25 gets you 4-5 eps of Farscape.
Farscape was one of my favorite shows, and I enjoyed Firefly for the same reasons I liked Farscape.
My dad was having the same problem at his work. I recommended he download Mozilla or Firebird.
The next day, he said, "So today I went through all my links and deleted the ones I never use. Now I don't get anywhere near as many popups."
I still don't know what he actually did.

Does anyone know if you can use PC CDs on a Mac with this? Cuz that would be awesome.
Also makes me want a dreamcast.
