The point is that is you're the kind of person who could benefit from being with people more often, you're also more likely to NOT spend all your extra time with people, but rather sitting at home alone watching a 24 anime channel.
Well...now the Sprint cell phone commericial that I saw with Sega's Super Monkey Ball makes sense. I can't wait to get this. I need more games to ignore my work with!
Right sentiment, but your facts are wrong. First, Sprint doesn't use Nokia phones at all, so this news has nothing to do with Spting. Second, Sprint PCS Vision enabled phones can already play Super Monkey Ball. It's pretty cool. Go check it out at your authorizes Sprint reseller.
One company I worked for contracted out an application we had to build to a provider who brought in this crazy, dishevled, brilliant Russian database engineer. I remember that with every issue that would come up he would say, "Is database application" and go off muttering to himself. Content management software needed? "Is database application." File system problems? "Is database application." new mouse drivers? "Is database application." What to order for lunch? "Is database application."
The moral of the story? Any computer application is built most quickly and easily using a database solution.
This kind of artificial selection has been used for millenia to breed cats and dogs... maybe this is just how the human race will evolve to the next evolutionary plateau.
True, but the difference here is that nature was doing the selecting, not Joe Daddy who wants his son to be a pro basketball player. Which, by the way there isn't anything wrong with - of course parents want the best possible opportunities for their kids. If I had children I'm sure I'd want them to have the best possible tools for they're life.
The point is, are we ready to grant this kind of power?
Who says a race of rich, superhuman babies is a bad thing anyway.;-)
choosing to abort is possible, but Gattica like changes are not... at least as of yet.
You make a good point, but I just want to clarify something. If I remember correctly, they weren't changing anything in Gattaca. The process described worked by choosing the best of among many embryos - resulting in once in a lifetime "super babies" every time.
The process of reading a gene map became so easy that the world descriminated heavily against people with any possible or probably defects, even if they hadn't manifested themselves.
Yeah, but how many unborn fetuses have six hundred thousand dollars?
I think the correct question is how many unborn fetuses have parents with six hundred thousand dollars who'd want to make sure they have a perfect baby.
While this is neat and all, and it was an inevitable use of the technology - does this scream "Gattaca" to anyone else? How long before we're doing this for unborn fetuses, and aborting those with serious defects? Or choosing among the choicest embryos?
You're doing the math wrong. Assuming broadcast quality video needs 5MB, a 70 channel cable system needs....5MB. A 400-channel cable system needs 5MB. Ever notice how you're never watching more than one channel at once? Maybe a little more to download guide data. But your cable line isn't 300MB.
I think if SA-CD ever becomes a defacto standard, you'll see players that are backward compatible with CD-ROMs. There's no way that the majority of people are going to replace hjuge CD collections with SA-CDs.
That being said, the quality of the standard CD format is more than enough for home recording, I would think.
The reason you don't see this very often is that in order to do this you need (I think) two separate tuners. Most appliances - cables boxers, PVRs, TV tuner cards, only have one tuner on them, and as such, can only view/record one channel.
The reason VCRs and PVRs can record while yuou watch another channel is that they use their tuner for recording, and then pass the signal through to the cable box/tv's tuner for viewing.
I don't know of any TV cards that have two tuners - maybe you could try two TV cards? Although I think software issues would get mighty hairy there, because as far as I know this is hardly an often-used application.
This has to be some sort of hoax. Is it April already?

While I agree with your comment, it's itneresting to note that Tony Hawk 3 *currently* works with just about any USB Ethernet NIC. You don't need the Sony NIC to get online with a PS2 right now.
I'm starting to think there's something wrong with my life. I don't have NEARLY this much time on my hands. And I'm unemployed. And have no friends.....
I'm starting to get involved with a company that is trying to build an Ebay-like system for technology support.
Basically users would use the website to be partnered with service providers. Providers would bid on contracts - anything from as small as $100 on up - and the money would be held in escrow by the website until the work had been completed.
There are quite a few hurdles to solve - but it might end up being a great way for individual developers to farm out their talent and time and make money on a case by case basis.

Isn't there something to be said that going through the social experiences, good and bad, of high school is important in the development of an adult?

AOl sends their CDs 4th class bulk, meaning that if you try to return to sender the post office just throws them away. AOL won't pay a dime.
That's not entirely accurate. Horses and Donkeys can reproduce, but they are different species as far as I know.
Hasn't "jumping the shark" jumped the shark yet? I'm so sick of that phrase.
Ok..maybe I'm not as big of a geek as I thought - but what the hell is this item talking about? Quatsiwhatsi? What is this? What's going on?

That's why this news is kind of frightening.

Mostly good points - except wouldn't a jpeg slideshow work just fine as a screen saver?
Last time I checked, a Palm screen was hardly CRT technology. That would make it a bit less portable.

Having not heard about metabrowsing in two years is probably a good indication that the trend hasn't swept the internet community by storm.
