    We all heard the story here before fo a certain talk/chat servie cut off from ISP service becuase they were DDoS attacked repeatedly..

    Given that this is a startup iSP ..SCO Group woudl have been kicked off their network already for the maount of DDoS attacks..they will probably have given back the amount paid but voided the contract..most ISP contracts have an out for this set of circumstances..

    So where is the real truth here?

    IE for example is it the object tag?

    Given the period of 1994 when patent was applied for and not granted until 1998..w3c might be able ot talk elos into only collecting license fees that are limited or ask that the patent be donated to w3c..

    and does MS's and Netscape's and SpyGlass's work from 1994-1998 become then prior art as patent was nto finalize duntil 1998?

    okay before you flame me lets go back to unix history and 1980s

    In the 1980s the knowledge of writing secure multi-user, mulit-taskign OSes were locked away in Unix commerical versions not for public examination by those studying Computer Science..

    Guess where a large portion ofthose coders ended up at? MS Redmond headquarters..

    While past 1990s MS does hold the blame for not being proactive on security ie redoing the kernel .. ..its not that plain blakc and white..

    However, I do agree with WashingtonPost's suggestion MS should send a free copy of Longhorn to every registered Windows user worldwide as an effort towards security..

    But in closing this set of issue also indicate why opensource OSes will always be more secure because the skills and knowledge is shared with all coding professionals!

    Sharing begets Security!

    so ie MS could not even if it wanted to block 3rd party clients..

    any 3rd party client that follows the saem protocols submitted to the w3c by MS for IM apps will get through..
