Schools provide students' network access as an aid to their education.
If a student feels he/she must have p2p there are private ISP's out there who are willing to offer their services for a price. Most people in the real world do pay for their internet access.
There is no reason that a student should expect his/her school to sacrifice bandwidth or risk legal problems to support the student's habit.
Apple tried this with Microsoft some years ago in the first "look 'n' feel" lawsuit I'd ever heard of. Microsoft had the resources to prevail in that one, but the fur really flew there for a while....I don't remember if MS used the 'prior art' argument since there had been some windowing systems (and mice) around Unix shops for a while before Apple went GUI.
When did you last see Steve Jobs and Bill Gates sharing a hug?
Aunt Ginny, having had a proper education that stressed correct spelling and clear written expression, will probably have much less of a problem with upper/lower case usage than do many American kids who attended public schools that have lowered their standards so anyone can pass, whether or not they have learned anything!
I'm surprised that something like the Hon. Mention system for giving higher ranking to pages that contain "all of the keywords" hasn't already been implemented. It seems that Freshmeat already has this feature and it is quite useful.
"Ecosystem" is one of the buzzwords used by urban terror groups such as the ones who broke up the World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle recently. People who want to rule by force don't seem to worry about nonsequitors.
This article is more rant than review. The "reviewer" seems to be more into spin than programming judging by his extensive views regarding Y2K warnings. He has just used this book to express his views on the subject without telling us much about the content of the book.
They blame only piracy and economic downturn for slower sales. I guess we're a bunch of robots programmmed to buy or download a certain number of CD's regardless of the style or quality of the music!
I do miss "Almost Live!"! I lived in the Seattle area in the '60's for long enough to get the local jokes. After watching AL!, Saturday Night Live was such a drop that I usually didn't bother to watch the latter.
This sounds pretty close to what my power company has in the line for my water heater. When our hydro-power source is down and the deisels are supplying the juice at high cost, my water heater only operates during 'off-peak' times which I specified at hook-up time. The signal activating the timer is transmitted through the power line.
We used about this same process, somewhat abbreviated, for hiring crewmembers on a boat longline fishing in the Gulf of Alaska and we were by far the best crew I have been a part of in my forty-plus years of fishing. We never had a crewmember who didn't add value to the group and I think the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. Fortunately, when illness combined with family situations required me to stay home for a couple of years I was able to give them sufficient notice to find the right replacement. I sure miss that crew!
It ought to be able to handle the boot image for Linux, including your scsi driver so at least the portion of the boot sequence which is loaded read-only would be immediate. My first thought on reading the article was that the people over at LinuxBIOS might be perking up their ears, as (in the recent Linux Journal article) it's been said that one of their main problems is fitting the necessary code onto present BIOS chips.
Don't you read the article?++
The optical signal is modulated, then transmitted on 150Ghz-band RF signal.

The source for glucose is..?
Boy, this must have really made those guys leap out of bed in the morning, eager to get to work!

Chicken droppings on a grid.
How about putting it on your sails to help power your GPS receiver?
Clothes piled over the junction are a recipe for fire. The urine smell may have saved your life!

Thank you!
802.11a is fine if all you want to do is talk to other 802.11a equipment. That leaves you out of the 802.11b loop!

They could do pretty well with a Flight Simulator port.
If they ported Office, my wife would surely buy it as she's deeply into it's use with OLE.

How far from your hardrive should you keep it?
It seems like a nice way to run a fan as long as it's not flippin' bits in the process.
Or maybe you just die sooner if you over-report your sleep-time in the survey.

Many older mobo's (chipsets?) don't shutdown power on OS shutdown. The AT board on which I'm running a k6-233 requires manual power-off.

Switching to Linux could save a big chunk on hardware upgrades!
First they got all your firearms. After that they feel free to take away your information. What do you think will be next?
