(assuming no need to emulate nvidia chips as the direct x / 3d layer should mean ATI would work as well - assuming game developers behaved themselves)

I don't think all developers have respected directX. Yeah, all those PC ports probably do, but some exclusive titles most probably try to get all the juice from the nvidia chip, doing things that will be very hard to emulate on the ATI. If you want an example, take Halo. The PC version needs a computer WAY more powerful than a Xbox, probably due to the fact that Bungie fine tuned Halo for the Xbox. I guess that most of the killer apps for the Xbox are in the same situation (Ninja Gaiden, etc).

On the other hand, I don't think Microsoft would go to all the trouble to provide backwards compatibility, just to have to exclude the most popular title for their console.

Question is how cheap are 700mhz x86 chips these days?

Not much cheaper, unless you buy them used. Moore Law says that you can make a processor twice as powerful as the one you did 18 months ago. But doesn't say that you can make a processor of half the power at half the cost.

All I want are battery life figures that aren't coming from the manufacturer. From some game mag or game site that actually has the thing in hand and has been playing games with lots of bells and whistles, not some basic settings with the backlights off in some crappy "battery save" mode or something.

Why? Nintendo historically has said the truth; They said the SP would have 16-20 hours of battery life with the backlight off, and half that with the light on. It does that. They said the gamecube would move 7-12 millions of polys for second. In fact it moves more.

If Nintendo said that the DS will allow you to fly between countries, I would start making the paperwork to get a passport.

On the other hand, Sony and Microsoft, well, they aren't very reliable about their numbers. PS2 would move hundreds of millions of pollys. Yeah f&cking right...If they say the PSP will have a decent battery life, it means "you will be able to walk from one plug to another, and your battery will last just that".

"John Smith has not beat his wife in the past eight months" only implies that JS' wife has not been beaten in the past months. It is not certain if she was beaten in other periods.

    Yeah maybe, but, what motives?

-Both of them never had any real family.
-Sephiroth got to know about his origins in a shocking way and went mad. Kefka was mad since the begining, but he killed the Emperor, so maybe he also had some hate for what they did to him (yeah, I'm extrapolating)

Sephiroth gets an advantage for having the "karma" of his crazy dad experimenting in his mom. Kefka doesn't have a family. But, Sephy didn't know this, so that can't be called a motive.

Think. If you had played FF6 first, THEN ff7, you may have experimented a LOT of deja vu on the story. Again, I say that Sephy is a better Kefka, but Kefka was more original.
