  1. Why would we want the Americans to have it? They'll just find a way to use it for making war on brown people countries, like they always do. In the hands of Europeans it would be much safer for the world, as well as be good for environmental and social justice. Europe can't make war on other countries, it simply lacks the ability to do so.

    The problem is that to "solve" the "problem" in the manner you describe would require a global governance. And this would be an inescapable tyranny, which would gather power after power to itself and be utterly unanswerable to the people. The cure is worse than the disease.

    Austin is a nice place because it's (was) run by conservatives. Remove those and Austin becomes the California hellhole that everyone was escaping in the first place. Leftists don't like to live under left wing governments. If that was the case, there would be massive emigration to Venezuela.

    It's that they don't have a trust based society like we do. We trust each other; they don't. We are finding out that Western values are not universal values, they are unique and special and likely only work for us. Our forcing them in others is the path to failure. What we call corruption is an aberration, in their societies it is the norm. The goal is not to fix corruption but to join it.

    If leftists really thought that man made climate change is the biggest existential threat to the world they would not be in favor of people from the lowest carbon per capita producing countries immigrating to the the highest carbon per capita producing countries. Why would anyone turn a low energy consuming person, and their future children, into high energy consuming ones?

  13. Trump had nothing to do with it. The official was grabbed during his audience with Xi, as a deliberate fuck you and an attempt to sabotage Trump's deal. Whole swathes of the US government despise him, won't take orders from him, run their departments without any input from the elected government, and work behind the scenes to sabotage anything he does.

Invite one of their kids over and give zir a glass of tapwater to drink, and see if the parents let zir come over again.     They certainly didn't fire the one who leaked James Damore's memo. Instead they retaliated against the man who was trying to help them figure out why they have such a hard time hiring a diverse workplace. That's basically when they jumped the "don't be evil" shark and came down firmly on the side of the Stasi. Informing on your colleagues for punishment is pretty much what the Stasi did. Despite what you might have heard, they relied mostly on turning workers against workers.
