It would be cowardly if we lived in a world where people didn't get punished for what they said. In this world, it's just common sense.

Besides, it's not like if you don't sign your real name whatever it is you want to say doesn't get said.

Potential people? Everything is a potential person, if you go back far enough. Choosing to start the potential for human life at an embryo is completely arbitrary. What will you say if/when it becomes possible to fabricate an embryo from scratch in a lab? Are the (presumably) "non-living" ingredients potential people? How about the ingredients for the ingredients?

We're just elements combined together in a certain way, like everything else. Humans just got shitty luck and realized it.

Make all the animal-human hybrids you want, I say.

Now something that happened to my friend makes total sense.

He needed a new hard drive, so we picked one up at Circuit City (hey, he needed it fast). When we opened the box, instead of a shiny new 100GB Western Digital hard drive, it was one of those huge old Quantum Bigfoot drives, like 4GB.

Until now I had no idea how that could have happened.

Haha so to answer your question - yes, obviously some people have gotten away with it.

I don't think humans can evolve on Earth in the way that you suggest (as in, naturally) because our population is too big. If we do evolve it will be because of our tinkering with our own DNA on purpose - but is that really evolution, if we do it to ourselves? Also, I wouldn't call the work of nature "careful" at all.

Do you honestly think we'll have handheld devices for more than 50 years? I'd be really surprised if we interact physically with any "devices" (which will probably become an obsolete word) in 100 years.

At any rate, I think the future of evolution is what's going to happen when we send a few hundred (thousand? a small number, relatively speaking) people each on ships to colonize space and they're all left on their own (reproduction-wise) for a long time.

His point was that the industry is just trying to cash in on recycling old songs, because they're fucking lazy. A better example would probably be Puff Daddy's overzealous "sampling" of entire songs. It's especially bad in mainstream rap. Now, I'm not anti-sampling, when creatively done, it's great - see: Jason Forrest, and work by the Dust Brothers, like Paul's Boutique. Many underground rap artists are more creative in their sampling as well.

If you're not mature enough to take responsibility for your actions when on mind-altering substances then you shouldn't take them. I'm not saying you're not, I'm just saying that not everybody uses them as an excuse. Drugs (this includes alcohol) are never a scapegoat for me and my friends. If we do something stupid while intoxicated, we'll probably apologize later if we hurt somebody in some way. But for the most part, if you're stupid in the first place, you'll do stupid things on drugs. If you educate yourself on how they'll affect you and what to expect, I don't think you'll have any problems.

I used to feel the same exact way as you. But then I realized I was just being a big pussy and didn't trust myself. I don't use drugs to escape into some fantasy world, I use them to gain a different perspective on things - I never lose touch with reality.

All that being said, I think I'm in the minority when it comes to this philosophy on drug use, sadly.

Your job would not be so frustrating if you simply treated your theory as it is - a theory.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but evolution is a fact. Well, and a theory. The fact is that evolution happened. The theory part is how that evolution happened.

    A good quote:
"It is time for students of the evolutionary process, especially those who have been misquoted and used by the creationists, to state clearly that evolution is a fact, not theory, and that what is at issue within biology are questions of details of the process and the relative importance of different mechanisms of evolution. It is a fact that the earth with liquid water, is more than 3.6 billion years old. It is a fact that cellular life has been around for at least half of that period and that organized multicellular life is at least 800 million years old. It is a fact that major life forms now on earth were not at all represented in the past. There were no birds or mammals 250 million years ago. It is a fact that major life forms of the past are no longer living. There used to be dinosaurs and Pithecanthropus, and there are none now. It is a fact that all living forms come from previous living forms. Therefore, all present forms of life arose from ancestral forms that were different. Birds arose from nonbirds and humans from nonhumans. No person who pretends to any understanding of the natural world can deny these facts any more than she or he can deny that the earth is round, rotates on its axis, and revolves around the sun.

The controversies about evolution lie in the realm of the relative importance of various forces in molding evolution."
