....as a high school student planning on going to school in Sunnyvale next year, I'm hoping that the economy (and the job market in SV) will get better by the time I get out of school in a few years.
As a side question, does anyone know of any places near Sunnyvale or Santa Clara that has significantly less rent but are like 5-15 minutes away?
Let's see....i'm a 17 year old guy who goes to a magnet high school who dj's (with turntables), plays the bass clarinet, sings in a band, is a radio show host, is an avid filmmaker and 3d modeler/animator, and has a small computer building business. I recently got arrested for assualt even though it was in self defense and I was the one who called 911 (there were some good scenes in there), and had to do community service. I've also been in love with this girl for four years and we started going out over the summer and we've been going out ever since - and she's the homecoming queen, and I'm having trouble getting intimate with her. Oh, I also have 3 cars. A 1986 mercury grand marquis, a 1970 mercury marquis convertible (with the license plate NIX CAR), and a 1991 bmw 750iL (NIX V12). I plan on moving to california next year. Ah, I love my life. (sorry that was over 100 words)
I watched their little MaGIC video on their site after posting, and what I gathered was this - that you connect a piece of MaGIC equipment to the network (e.g. guitar, mic, PVR, security camera) and the device automatically starts broadcasting what it is and what it can do - "so anybody can do it." It might not have an IP address per se, but it certainly has a name or number or something.
I was wrong, since the one guy in the video said that you shouldn't have to configure anything, just hook it up. Interesting stuff. What worries me is that MaGIC sounds eerily like that "magic box" that allowed data to be transferred over ordinary power lines - hopefully this stuff actually works.
Well, maybe to set up a studio with stuff like this you'll need to be a network technician - I mean, each instrument would have it's own IP address, and so could mixers, computers, effects generators, etc. and you'd need a hub or a switch or something....hmmmmm.
...you should use a hardware keystroke logger for stuff like this, like the KEYKatcher. Those things are undetectable...I mean who ever looks at the back of a public computer to see if there's a little adapter on the end of your keyboard??
I don't see why they don't just sit Carson down and read through a dictionary, a list of artists, a lists of songs, common phrases used for countdowns, and common phrases in general - so you could essentially write the script and plop each single word or phrase in there. Didn't IBM or somebody have synthesized speech software that used actual voice audio samples of all possible vowels? I remember reading that they basically paid these people to sit down and read a lot of shit so they could make whatever they wanted with their voices. Why don't they just do that for Carson Daly?
I agree that I might not have been purchasing as many CD's as I would have. However, I'm probably buying better music than I would have. Maybe that's why the major record labels are pissed. All their artists suck, and people can tell before they go out and buy the cd (gasp!). That's my theory.
They're certainly entertaining when you don't think too much about it. geez. I hate these people that overanalyze action or science fiction flicks. The fact that the computers used humans was integral to the irony - how we used to use the computers, and now the computers use us. You're still stuck on the fact that it's implausible. I reiterate: IT'S A MOVIE. If it's so distracting to you then you have a serious psychological problem that keeps you from enjoying movies for what they are. I'll go back to Superman - are people distracted by the fact that he's stronger and faster and can fly just because he's from another planet?! "That doesn't make any sense! That's an implausible explanation! I hate this movie!". C'mon.
Wow....a movie isn't realistic...big shocker there. Get the fuck over it. What image do you find more visually striking? A field of human babies being used as batteries (generators, whatever) - or a pile of compost? IT'S A MOVIE. People don't go to movies expecting a fucking science lesson or class in thermodynamics, or even for the physics of a hand to hand fight or explosion or space sounds to be realistic. People go to be....(dramatic pause here)...entertained. With the obvious exception of you, of course.
Yes, leather and guns and explosions are cool and popular - a real news flash there. Also cool were the visual effects done by John Gaeda. Do you think the Matrix movies have any grounding in reality? These are superhero movies, plain and simple.
While were at it, let's discuss how Superman couldn't possibly fly.
...all they need to do is make a dual optical cordless mouse for us gamers. THEN i'll be really happy.
although...the article mentions that the high-resolution of the sensor on the MX700 results in very little cursor skipping, even in video games. do I even need a dual optical?
9/11 continues to have no effect on my life whatsoever. Other than that my high school is planning a discussion in classrooms about it today for the anniversary, of which I will of course opt-out of. Soooo stupid it's not even funny.
I'm still in high school. But I keep giving my gf these rings made out of dollar bills that she LOVES. There's a site somewhere that tells you how to make them, I forget the URL. Anywho, IF I ever did propose to her, I'd prolly propose with a dollar bill ring. But....then I'd prolly bust out the real deal. Yeah, there's really no two ways about it, you have to get a diamond. Sorry, bucko.
I'm pretty sure most people who use Red Hat for CAD use Maya - although bundling it with it's MM distro could pave the way for Blender to be used in commercial 3D modeling applications, like films, but the program will need a little work. Yeah, opening up the source could contribute to a free program being used to create film-quality special effects. That'd be nice.
Hey, does anyone know when the 64-bit version of Windows XP will be available to the public? I heard it exists, and I'd like to put it on my CAD machine (planning on dual Hammers) once I build it next year - along with a 64-bit Linux distro, of course.
What? The only difference I could discern between film and digital is that the digital projection didn't have any dust or cigarette burns. It was just....clean. I mean, blue skies were just....blue. No little black spots or anything. So sue me, I'm a perfectionist, but to me digital projection seems the way to go.
Well, I was a little disapointed to see that it doesn't support Serial ATA (it's not a big deal, but it's something). When will mobos with support for Serial ATA come out?
Another question: do you think a dual CPU mobo with nForce2 chipset be produced/marketed? Because that, and I think many people would agree with me, would be quite sweet (barring the serial ata debacle).
you do realize you can just cover them up if they always show up on one part of the screen? no biggie. and maybe that'll cut down on in-between commercials.
At my high school, we have a thing called Senior Technology Research Labs (tech labs for short). Many of the seniors that take the Robotics Tech Lab create BattleBots and actually compete in real BattleBot competitions.

I go to a school for nerds. There I'm popular enough to date the homecoming queen :).

What if you want to find information on a racecar???
....can you get it in the shape of a tight-ass snake?

Is the built-in bong in the middle of the case!

Dude, these things look pretty sweet, and I'll be sure to get one....if the price is right.
"It's not available yet, and Oqo doesn't expect to manufacture its devices on its own, so it has said nothing about a ballpark price for the units."
Does anybody have any realistic estimate for what these will cost?
(That quote is from the Forbes.com article here, btw)
No, the dust is actually ON the film. In digital, no actual film = no dust.
