The big difference is that no one is out there selling copies of 'Troopers'. The Phantom Editor doesn't have a video store in Utah saying "Better Star Wars Here, only $5"
You're confused here. They're not selling copies of the edit in the way you think. They don't make the special edited version and run off a thousand copies to sell.
Every edited movie they sell comes with the real original DVD - bolted to the case (and thus rendered unplayable). For every movie CleanFlicks sells, thats another movie CleanFlicks had to buy from Hollywood.
If CleanFlicks were engaging in any copyright infringement whatsoever, you bet your ass that the MPAA would be the ones filing this suit - not the frigging Director's Guild.
By your token, because I buy a book, I should therefore own all the contents of the book. This is the reason that copyright law exists--to protect the people who create things.
You're suffering from a confusion of ideas. Just because I own a book does not mean I own the copyright to that book.
The copyright is the right to copy and distribute a work. Just like you can own and book and not own the copyright, so too you can own the copyright and not own a single copy of the book.
Where is my dual layer support? Until I can write a full 9.6GB standard DVD, I'll be wary of buying any DVD±RW drive. I don't know what I'd put on a 9.6GB DVD right now, but I want it just the same.
If you plan not to pirate software again would you chose to pay for commercial apps or would you use free software?
You're missing the whole point! These warez guys don't necessarily use the software they pirate. What they like and dislike in real life has nothing to do with their piracy habits. Will he use Blender or Maya 3D? Who cares! Neither!
How do you feel about the rise of P2P and it's affects on the Warez community? Do you think it makes it safer (safety in numbers?) or do you think that it'll bring down the fist of the law even harder?
I mean, other than atomizing the whole region. Not flame-bait, just asking. In a year, did anyone come up with a way of solving that 50+ year old problem?
You can always tell that a statement is meaningless when you can replace the key noun in it with a different word without changing the degree to which the statement is true. A statement that is always true, regardless of the subject, is dull and pointless.
"Well, Slashdot has given us some nice moments. But in between all those nice moments has been a high-volume sewer hose of cultural sludge."
Hey, you're right! It works for everything!
(edit: In retrospect, this post looks like an insult to you. Well, it's not. Thank god for the edit function.)
Then you really need to check out Atarian Magazine. It was a short-lived Atari-run magazine that only ran for three issues. Only issue #1 is archived there, but you can see why it didn't last long.
Be sure to check out pages one and two of the "Adventures of Atari" comic. Will Atari defeat the evil forces of Ninja-Endo? Stay tuned, kids!
but I've patented the method for posting the same old "patent the method for patenting" and "patent sueing people over patents" jokes on Slashdot whenever a related story comes up.
Please send me ten dollars for this infraction and hand over the password for your account. Thank you.
I had the same problem until I found out that I was doing it wrong. You see, the more you provide for the villagers, the more they become complacent and lazy. Keep coddling them, and it becomes a micromanagement hell. Plus, they become less and less impressed by the divine miracles you provide.
I'm not saying that Black and White was flawless, but the growing needyness of villagers seems pretty damn accurate. Leave them alone more, and they do more by themselves. Neat.
If games aren't speech, then there is no reason these "interative political cartoons" can't be censored.
And heck, why not censor political cartoons altogether? I mean, it's common sense that all cartoons are meant for children, right? Comic books too, since they're practially the same thing.
From there it's a short step to books, music, video, and anything else these pesky consumers invent.
And no, you can not ride the slippery slope when I'm done with it.:-P
...sound pretty damn good, even after MP3ing)
:-)
Didn't you mean to say "pretty damn good, even after OGGing"?
BURN THE HERETIC!
Yeah, basically, that's what I meant to say. Thanks for clearing that up, though.

> The Patent Office has become ridiculous. They'll grant a patent application for just about anything because it generates filing fee revenue.
Don't they keep the filing fee even if they reject the patent?
Your post screams "I'm in my parent's basement!" like no other before it.
That's an UNFAIR GENERALIZATION!
He could be in the attic.
And of course, do something about it.
Given today's security climate, that must mean... erasing the chalk?
...ensuring that the Net remains a 'good neighborhood.'
Yeah, they'd better hurry up before we're inundated with spam, worms, trojans, and other unimaginable horrors. Oh, wait...

Which P2P networks did you prefer, if any?
Plan to keep in contact with your friends in the Warez biz, even if you yourself never re-enter it?
I've been under the impression that the warez "scene" is more about status and human interaction than anything else.
How did this get modded up? I want recipies, not mods! Karma doesn't fill my belly! ;)
...or continuing to live on Friskies and ramen casserole...
Ramen Cassarole? I know it's offtopic, but have a recipe you could throw my way? Google's suggestions seem eclectic at best.

One. Patents are not made to stifle business. They are made to protect the inventor.
One. Patents are not made to protect the inventor. They are made to give people incentive to invent.

How is playing Counter-Strike going to help me lose weight?

> DDR can be basically free: there are a number of projects dedicated to bringing DDR to the PC
You forgot some: ePSXe and other Playstation emulators.
Hey! I'm not an AC! :(
> I've done it. I thought is was stupid.
Translation: I tried it once and was terrible at it.
