I'm surprised it took them this long. I mean come on, there's a way for them to bilk the artist out of more of their earnings, and they didn't do it? That's not the recording industry I know!
I heard (just a rumor, so don't quote me on this) that they're making it so that plugging in multiple PS3s directly with a short cable is how they'll expand it's power. For example, say you beat a game, and want it to be harder. Get another PS3, link them, and now it has more power for a smarter AI. Or if you want your graphics to be better, you can get multiple units and link them. Kind of like how you can link PS2s to do mulitiplayer now, only it increases the computing power instead of the number of players.
I remember the Sega Channel, my buddy had it. You had a special (and very large if I remember correctly) cartridge that plugged into your Genesis. Plug the cable into it, use it to download games. The selection changed monthly, and you had to wait for the whole game to download each time you wanted to play it. It was cool at the time, but I didn't get to mess around with it much because I had a Super Nintendo.
Am I the only one who remembers that the SNES had an accessory that allowed you to play online way back in 1995? You'd pop your game into a modem, then stick it in the system, much like using Game Genie. I think they were the first console to do this, in fact. Now they seem to have changed their minds completely.
Good points. Luckily for me, I own a car (although a crappy one) and i'm going to a college in the city of Chicago so public parking garages are everywhere. If you down't own/can't park/can't rent a car, perhaps have your parents rent a car and drive out with you? Could be a solution to the problem.
I'm going to college half way across the country in September (from VA to Chicago), and i'm driving it myself. I'm shipping things like clothes and anything that isn't fragile, but my computer equipment is coming with me in the car. Air conditioned, with me at all times, much less prone to damage.
Easy mistake

For a minute there, I thought it said hardon. Gotta stop surfing for porn between viewings of slashdot.
I was going to put some morse code here that said "you are a massive loser" to the original poster, but alas, the lameness filter stopped it. I'm too lazy to type out dot and dash.
how long it'll be before the paranoid slashdotters come in and say "and they'll monitor your every move with it!" Happens when every story about technology like this is posted.
I always hear about how all the other countries have superior cellular telephone service than we do here in the states. However, neither me nor any of my friends have ever received a single unwanted SMS message. Finally, a good thing about the lack of acceptance of cellular standards here... no spam!
Where the hell are you buying your CDs? Go to Best Buy, Target, or Wal-Mart... you'll rarely find a CD for over $15, and most new releases go for $10-$13.
Nothing's wrong with it to the general public. But since slashdot (and geeks in general, it seems) are so fucking paranoid, any article that refers to such technology will instantly put a bad spin on it.
Too bad the/. crowd is also too lazy to get off their fat asses and do anything about the things they argue so strongly against.
I don't see the point of this. Either way, Nintendo makes money... right? If they don't sell a game in one market, they still make the money off that game, because people buy it from another market. If anything, importing games help them make MORE money, because people who previously would be unable to purchase a game now can do so through various vendors.
Am I missing something here, or is this a pretty dumb move on Nintendo's part?
"If you are in a rural area that has no broadcast TV stations the government doesn't force ABC to set up a station for you!!"
A valid point. However, if a rural area does receive television signals, the government does not force ABC to take that away. I think that's what the original poster was getting at: if current stations are forced to shut down their broadcast, they should still be able to receive the programming that was once available to them.
Same thing with me. If you have the captions set to TEXT mode by mistake, a big black box will cover the screen, but since so few stations actually use text, it'll just be empty. Turn the captions back to CAPTION mode, or turn them off all together, and see if it fixes your problem.
Am I going to have to pay an arm and a leg to buy an old Dreamcast keyboard off of ebay? I'd love to give this a try, but only if I can find a cheap keyboard (we're talking $20 or less here), or wait for an upgrade that lets you use a controller.
But, if he only worked at each of those places for the short time that you describe here, would he pick up enough to talk about the things he's talked about? I still believe he's pulling all this out of his ass.

1) Open the cartridge
2) Replace RAM battery.
3) Save games like new.
Worked fine for me on my NES copy of the original Zelda.

Scratch that "regular old sound card..." the Xbox does 5.1 digital audio. I don't think your bargin bin sound card can handle that one, can it?

You've never seen the goatse guy before? Damn, have you been living under a rock or something?
It says "first radio post."

Why break the law when you can get what you need legally for free?

but what's AO? I'm not about to waste my time making a fake NYT account just to see what those letters mean.

I've found a hoard of Model Ms at a thrift store. $3 each! Needless to say, i'd never pass up an opportunity like that.

Can't get it to work. Is it my fault, or is Opera to blame?
