You should try to install Oracle XE http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database /xe/index.html

It's a ridiculously easy install and has most the features of standard 10g database. And It's free.

  3. I'm waiting for my 3rd one as we speak/write on The Man Who Went Through 11 Xbox 360s · · Score: 1

I'm waiting for my 3rd one as we speak/write, the first two were both three blinking lights of death, had to pay to repair the first one but then they ended up reimbursing me, Then they tried to tell me i would have to pay for my second one even though it was under it's new warranty, though after a bit of research they backtracked on that, hint always keep the paperwork. Hopefully the third one works like a charm.

I have to admit though customer service has been expectational , got a really nice person everytime and helped me take care of this, of course I would rather not deal with them at all.

  13. Inkscape Rocks!!! on Introduction To Inkscape And Its Future · · Score: 2, Interesting

I use inkscape all the time as a jump start for any svg based graphics i build.

my job right now is creating svg based graphs and data visualizations and inkscape is by far the best product I've used (illustrator, sodipodi, xmlspy and even vi) for creating the base graphic before i have to build all the data driven elements.

now just let me link in a .css or use a style block for styles and i have a 99.999% solution.

  14. Re:Is there work for a pure DHTML programmer? on JavaScript and DHTML Cookbook · · Score: 1

yes probably not for a pure dhtml programmer, but for a programer that uses that uses dhtml/javascript and jsp/servlets to create lighter weight and more interactive pages and load page sections on the fly so you don't have to update the full page, and do xml/xslt trasformations to create dhtml widgets from the javascript soap request you just fired off and on and on there is work, trust me i know.

like i keep telling and proving to my boss, i can save a ton of logic and bandwidth on the backend by makeing the client just a little bit smarter and interactive.

neither technology is a replacement for the other but together you can do some really cool and useful stuff.

svg and flash both have there place. i've been building online publishing frameworks using combination of svg (both batik for static output and the ASV, Adobe Svg Viewer for user interaction and fop that could not be created at all using Flash.

I won't lie it would be alot easier on me if the viewer was more wide spread but i've always figured it was a chicken and the egg thing, and evetually will come around

Of course for banner ads flash would be better.

Just like everything ever built use the right tool for the job.
