free healthcare, the finest meals, and pretty much any electronics toys he likes. He will have millions of dollars worth of resources at this disposal and absolutely no responsibilities whatsoever
I feel Presidents don't have any control over the economy. It seems to me Congress exerts much more influence but not nearly as much as they think they can.
When the economy is doing well, we call the lucky sitting President a "good" president. When it cycles the other way, that president is an "awful" leader.
For me, text entry on the iPhone is vastly easier than on the BB
I'm going to have to call your bluff on that point. Keyboard entry of text is an order of magnitude simpler than using the touch screen of an iPhone. Now I think iPhones are cute but you have made a rather transparent exaggeration.
Now I do have my eye on the G1. Depending on the adoption of that phone by consumers, I can see myself getting one of those in 6 months to a year. The keyboard is a big selling point BTW.
Katrina did highlight just how abysmally poor the state of the US disaster preparedness was
I think it showed how the general population could willfully ignore the fact a deadly hurricane was about to overtake them. I am really sorry for all the property damage but the human toll would have been far less if people were capable of making the correct decisions. Too many people are quick to blame the GOVT when the individuals themselves were negligent.
1. Can turn off access to any application, at will. 2. Can force upgrade$, even when perfectly happy with an older version of an application. 3. Can nickle-and-dime you for every piece of the OS, similar to purchasing your car one bolt at-a-time. 4. Over tax our still not-ready-for-prime-time broadband.
Gosh, how the hell does this benefit me in anyway? I am not an automatic MS-basher like some people here but I'm quickly learning.
You and your fancy floppys. I remember having to cobble together media with saran wrap, iron filings, a Quaker oats container top, and a hot glue gun. Then I had to repeatedly rub my feet on the carpet and zap spots to lay down the formatting data.
I don't even wanna get into the read/write head I had to fashion.
It's common knowledge 486s (and their variants) were pulled from the classified wreckage at Roswell NM earlier last century. Trust me, they've had plenty of time to work with those babies.
Where I work, you can't even clear your desk. Your belongings are shipped to your address on file with the Company. Once you are told you're gone, you leave right away with an HR rep and security escort.
It's always a Friday afternoon, too. However, if you give 2 weeks notice, HR can get you out on any day within 30 minutes or so if a counter offer is not attempted.
Oddly, that's the only thing our management is actually efficient at:o(
Clippy: "It appears your trading system has crashed. Would you like to:
1. Schedule a press conference? 2. Warm up the corporate jet and head to the Bahamas? 3. Email shareholders an apology letter? 4. Sign up for premier-level support?
Please, take the time to back up your assertion. How is the.Net Platform so much worse than Java? I've seen people like you make this claim and then never go on to explain why?
I am interested in knowing why. I personally do 90% of my coding in C# nowadays and have had a very positive experience (and the money is decent, too). My mind is not closed to other languages and methodologies, so do not mistake my inquisitiveness for a snide remark; I would really like to know how Java is faster and cleaner.
You were modded as funny but it's time people like you put all your cards on the table. I don't code in Java but I don't debase the language. I honestly don't know enough to argue one way or the other for Java. I suspect you don't know enough about.Net to do so either.
And a little off topic for this thread but keeping with the spirit of the parent story: It doesn't matter what language you use. Your company can always outsource it. There are too many people outside the U.S. willing to work for very little at all hours of the day...plus...U.S. labor laws do not apply. It's a corporate wet-dream with Congress fully behind it.
Karma be damned! I refuse to be suckered into donating money again to help people who stayed behind to loot. Most of what happened the last time around disgusted me and the Federal government was not to blame. It was, in large measure, the failing of people to take the warnings seriously and the finger-pointing ineffectual local government (read that as the mayor). And then, we have the opportunist dregs of society.
If I could target my donations, I would. Until then..no money.
Nearly 3/4 of our development staff has already been shipped off to Bangalore. And guess what? The productivity and quality of that offshore code is terrible. However, that does nothing to slow the trend. The fact is, my company can hire 3 of them for every one of us, without having to worry about benefits or labor laws.
I am good. My code is good. I am also looking for a new gig because "good" means jack any more. I hope you can fall back on your minor.
The job search has not been very productive. It seems expecting a salary in return for my efforts is contrary to today's corporate aims. Best of luck to you and do not throw away money on a masters degree like it did: There is no return.
You are getting job offers because you are a noob and will work for nothing. You too will get replaced by the next noob.
You're kidding, right? I have heard about 80% of the developers I encounter say "sequel", the remaining portion prefer "Ess-queue-el". Since the first version of the language was actually called SEQUEL, I'd say it's alright to use that pronunciation.
I will not argue which is correct or even if it matters but I do question your claim of never having heard "sequel".
Not so, in 5-6 years when you sell that car, you'll be trying to pass along a very old piece of technology that will positively date the car. What's cool now will be silly then.
Don't forget the ear plugs and the cold. Yeah, I've been there.
The worst ride was a C-141 with four rows of web seating and having my knees interlocked with the Marine on either side....for 6 damned hours.
Then there was the ride back form Iraq to Kuwait in a C-130 after the end of the war in 2003 (at least the formal war); the pilot was hooking and jinking to avoid potential ground threats while Marines around me puked into their kevlar. I would rather sit in human feces than accept another ride from my "brothers in blue" again.
I am not sure why you got modded as a troll. My thoughts are exactly in line with your own; Linux does take considerable time to get working with all the diverse hardware one is likely to own. In fact, you will never succeed in getting many printers to operate.
I think Linux is great, a real interesting thing to tinker with. Yet, Windows takes far LESS than 2-4 hours to install and you are assured everything will work. Some of the Linux zealots need to go easy on the Kool-aid and be realistic: OSX and Linux do not need to worry about the incredibly diverse hardware situations a Windows installation has to contend with.
Some of us actually take far more time for a Linux install, especially if you compile your own kernel. Hell, my installation is in a perpetual state of tweaking and enhancement, it is never complete.
An assload is about 85lbs. It is what the old U.S. Army (back in the days of the western expansion) could safely place on a mule or donkey's back for a day of travel without harming it. It was a unit to assist in calculating logistics trains.

Let's just clone Paris Hilton....
Paris Hilton may seem useless
If it walks like a duck...
Exploit every advantage, I always say ;)

There is always one of you in every argument. Honestly, do you actually see racism in that comment?

Glad I could help clarify that.
Then again, you need at least 5X the bandwidth of the fastest rise-times you wish to see. So we are really looking at a 40Khz scope ;)
Position requirements:
10+ years exp with the Android dev env on Solaris, Unix, MS Windows, hand-held devices a plus.
Recent grads only, please.
I suppose they'll have to grant more Visas because we can't source the talent in the U.S.

Until Netcraft confirms this, it hasn't happened.
