Sounds like good schooling (if by schooling I mean preparing him for the real world). The same thing would probably happen if he used a company computer to post profanity: the company would probably be within their legal right to fire him.
Rossi and Focardi’s paper on the nuclear reactor has been rejected by peer-reviewed journals, but the scientists aren’t discouraged. They published their paper in the Journal of Nuclear Physics, an online journal founded and run by themselves, which is obviously cause for a great deal of skepticism. They say their paper was rejected because they lack a theory for how the reaction works. According to a press release in Google translate, the scientists say they cannot explain how the cold fusion is triggered, “but the presence of copper and the release of energy are witnesses.”

"The growing danger, said lawmakers, makes it imperative that Congress move on legislation that would expand government controls and set requirements to make systems safer."
This bothers me in slashdot, of all places. Articles that reference Amazon e-books ONLY COUNT THE NUMBER SOLD ON AMAZON. NOT ALL E-BOOKS! Just like the earlier misleading story headline that e-books outsold hardcovers for the first time... NO. Amazon KINDLE e-books outsold HARDCOVER books on AMAZON for the first time.
There are plenty other e-book and physical book sellers out there that are NOT amazon. It doesn't emcompass the whole literary universe, so it shouldn't be written as such.

I'm going to cry. Really. I had the blessing to meet Mr. Escalante just a few months ago, before he was diagnosed with cancer. What a wonderful, wonderful man.
Apparently, it seems to think so. From the complaint:
"The '381 Patent, entitled "List Scrolling And Document Translation, Scaling, And Rotation On A Touch-Screen Display," was duly and legally issued on December 23, 2008 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. A copy of the '381 Patent is attached hereto as Exhibit D. 40. Apple is the exclusive and current owner of all rights, title, and interest in the '381 Patent, including the right to bring this suit for injunctive relief and damages."
I second the recommendation for the FOLD book. I used it in college (also about 15 years ago), and I loved it so much I ended up buying an updated version when I ran across it at a Half-Price books recently.
If you've never done logic design, it will take you from the basics on.
Two years ago, my company had "No Current Plans" to move our MS Applications to their 2007 versions, but here we are, with Office/Exchange/Sharepoint all 2007.
"No Current Plans" may just mean just that... they don't have any plans. That's a far stretch from "we won't".
while the "Nutshell" books make great gifts for someone somewhat experienced in a topic, it needs to be pointed out that they're not necessarily the best option for a beginner.
But isn't a bigger issue the LOSS of blood at the scene of an accident rather than blood type rejection? Or maybe ambulances could carry this as a "generic" substitute.
I agree that the mandate is more "get people employed" rather than doing this thing right.
I fear a repeat of the "cablecard" fiasco, where companies technically follow the letter of the law, but still make things so infuriatingly unworkable that people just give up fighting.

Their compuer, their rules.
Man, I wish I had mod points. I'd give you all 5.
What does it matter if he does?
He can't be heard if he DOESN'T have a Ph.D in Astrophysics?
Conversely, if he DOES have one, does that make his proposal magically valid?

Why does it always follow the outline:

Because this is Slashdot. Your mistake is assuming that GOOD submissions get posted.

They should name schools after people like him.
In this one, the aliens come back with a different OS, and now running Antivirus!
Does it also allow for control over Auto Updates?

You know, that sounds like a threat to me...
I wonder if The Green Gobllin had anything to do with it...

Yeah, and we all know how well models work in the real world.
Seriously, am I the only one that thought "isn't that the fictional Dilbert country" when I first read this?
Don't worry. We'll all have this inhibitor chip put at the top of our spine that will keep the super-smart robots from controlling our brain.

For an EXCELLENT article about this, read Malcolm Gladwell's "Blowing up", which you can find online for free:

Because you should be wary of a law... the one that talks about unintended consequences.
