At least the Romans were able to accomplish more than your pathetic whining.
btw, wheat has opioid peptides in it. It IS an opiate of the masses.
Civilization needs a goal, without a goal, its just endless individualist pricks who all want to be different and be special. Simply existing is not enough. A person can't accomplish a damn thing on their own.
Through unity, there is strength. From strength, comes power. With enough power, anything is possible.
The Romans were able to create an island of civilization out of the natural world. No one was forced to live there. If you wanted to leave, you could. The Bread and Circuses line is a description of what happened when the Empire was collapsing. It doesn't mean anything that unifies a people is bad. When the Roman Empire was conquering the mediterranean, we don't say "That was just a way to control those stupid soldiers, har har". People moved into those conquered regions, civilization began anew into many of the modern countries of Europe.
A large scale space program will employ hundreds of thousands of people, it could bring a minor revival to our industry, and give our people something to live for beyond watching TV and being consumers. This is the next step for humanity. This is our first step in expanding civilization, just as the Romans did 2000 years ago.
btw, I would say we are far worse off than the Romans ever were. The only reason we aren't conquered by some more unified people is because we have nuclear weapons.
Keeping out of wars I would say was more a result of having the socialist revolution in 1920 (the first bloodless one, through the socialist democratic workers party winning the 1920 elections; btw only men of means could vote then which is interesting). Sweden has had it share of wars before that, having been a superpower, and had our population almost eradicated in parts of Sweden as a result. "Never again."
Some would say it is because the Swedes are decadent and nihilistic. They have nothing to live for, so they have nothing to die for. Sweden was one of the first European nations to really become culturally dead, and really serves as a warning to all other European nations. When the rest of Europe becomes like Sweden (in the next 20 years or so) thats when revolution will take hold.
What is most amusing as well is how not only is Swedish culture dead, but Swedes have the highest rate of miscegenation in Europe. Soon, the Swedish People will disappear into the mongrolized horde...
I've been to Troy New York, didn't make the US seem very affluent.
At least the people there can afford to eat a full meal in a restaurant. I remember the last time I was in sweden, a meal which cost about 500 krona would result in a 4 ounce lamb shank and a huge plate of potatoes au gratin. Back then, that meal cost about $70. I assure you, in Troy, New York, even a Swede can afford to get a good meal.
Of course, lets not even compare Troy to Gothenburg...
According to your stats more than half (55.7%) of treated offenders DID NOT reoffend. But hey, lets blight their lives forever and risk them being beaten or murdered by idiotic vigilantes shall we?
I think having that permanent risk is a great incentive for them to stay in line. It is a better punishment than making them sit in a cage for the rest of their lives. Life on the run is better than no life at all...
"They will come together not as a master-slave relationship, with the human telling the robot what to do," , said computer science professor Manuela Veloso. "The human and robot will be part of the same task."
This guy apparently has watched Blade Runner too much, and not enough of the Matrix or Terminator. I think the master-slave relationship is the only safe one when it comes to robots. Somehow the idea of robots running around, without a human geeding it instructions, is not very appealing to me. Especially if that robot is a military one with weaponry or something.
I think a lot of us simply hate Microsoft so much after 13 years of their bullshit, we would never give them a dime. EVER.
They could charge $10 for WIndows XP and I would still download it for free.
If everyone stopped giving them money, maybe they would go bankrupt. Maybe Billy would take down a bottle of vicodin with a pint of everclear and just end the nightmare. Maybe this is all just a sick dream. It is a fun dream though.
Newegg has the AIW 9700 non-pro for only $40 more than the AIW 9600 pro. 9800 AIWs are still way up in the $300 range.
Also, in a year, games will include support for 256 megs of textures. That was the same argument said about every increase in onboard memory. Who needs 64 megs of vram? or 128? Now, thats standard. If you are going to go for the fastest video card, you might as well get the maximum available memory so you can continue to use the card for years to come.
As a regular on rage3d.com, the only time I have heard of this is if you are trying to install drivers for the wrong card. If you have an original Radeon AIW, or the AIW 7500, you have to pay extra to get MMC 8.0+. If you try to download and install the version available on ATI's website, it won't work. You can still install MMC 7.x however.
This really is fair, the latest MMC has a lot of new features and ATI has spent a great deal of time making their software top notch.
Anyway, good luck.. and follow those instructions on the website, or post your question on rage3d.com.
ATI has a mobility Radeon 9600 Pro, that is enough to play most any game available right now. No need for a 64-bit laptop to play games when you can get one of them.
(I had something like 605k of low DOS memory free even with a CD-ROM and SB-16 (and later a Gravis Ultrasound))
And some of us at that time ran OS/2 so we could have 640K available for all dos programs... I remember how liberating it was to not have to mess with QEMM or any of those whacked programs.
Instead of threatening something, just do it. Its easy to arrest someone for making a threat, but far more difficult to figure out who committed a crime. Especially when the victim is unable to identify the perpetrator...
Democracy = government rule by majority vote of the people
republic = government rule by a select group, can be elected by the people or not.
I agree in principle with what you are saying, but most people who make a point of saying the US is not a democracy are basing on that majority rule concept. A lot of people think that if the majority wants it, it should be law... whereas there is no such principle in the country and ample evidence that is what the founding fathers were trying to avoid.
As far as unrepublican democracies, how is the UK a democracy? All legislative power is in the house of commons which is elected by the people. The people have no power on their own. Further, the queen can become a de facto dictator if the need exists.
I don't really know anything about Sweden or Japan. With such a small population, I wouldn't be surprised if Sweden could pull it off. Japan however... I dunno.
The fan on my Abit Geforce 4 Ti 4200 died and it ran for months before I even noticed.
If you didn't know it died, how can you know how long it had been dead? The only way you would know it ran for months with a non-functional fan is if you previously had observed the fan not working. In that case, you clearly would have noticed.
So either, you noticed the fan not working at some point and chose to ignore for months OR you made this whole story up.
Oh, and ATI does actually produce their own cards, but also licenes them to third party manufacturers. That is actually new, you never saw this until the 9000 series came out. ATI has manufactured their own cards for 15 years now. This is one of the reasons I have always purchased ATI. Nvidia however does NOT manufacture cards and never has.

Perhaps this is just what the people need.

Actually, I take that back... some swedes are trying to reclaim their birthright...
But since we're not trying to have a civil conversation anyway, why not just decend into name calling and be done with it. You sir, are a fuckwit.
Yes perhaps, but I take great pleasure in knowing there is no future for Sweden, its culture, or its people.

It was the same argument for comic books in the 1950s, or pulp novels in the 30s...
It was sort of a joke, relax. I know it was that great of a joke, but I tried.

Gateway 2000
They're not called Gateway 2000? What did they change the name to???
This is one of those jurisdictional issues. The spam company, and the victim he threatened, were located in Vancouver. Spam is not illegal in Canada.
The simple solution is to stop making threats.
Instead of threatening something, just do it. Its easy to arrest someone for making a threat, but far more difficult to figure out who committed a crime. Especially when the victim is unable to identify the perpetrator...
Its amazing how easily people can be persuaded when their lives are in jeopardy.

This one factory is going to play just a small part in the recovery from 50 years of soviet occupation and the razing of the city by allied bombing.
Dresden is still a mere shadow of what it once was.
I wish the people of Saxony well with the hard work ahead of them.
This machine could barely manage a few megahertz, yet it was scaling/rotating/blitting out hi-res graphics with millions of colors.
;) The rotating was cool though. I always loved the Actraiser opening sequence. What a cool game.
I think you meant 256x244@with 256 onscreen colors.
Maybe you are young and don't remember
Wow, I might have actually studied harder if that was the case in the US...
I work about 84 hours a week right now but when I'm not working,
thats exactly half a week. You work 12 hours a day every day?
My god, slaves were treated better than that.
The fan on my Abit Geforce 4 Ti 4200 died and it ran for months before I even noticed.
